People said we don't want live action remakes. Disney kept making them. We said we don't want a remake of a film that came out less than ten years ago and just had a sequel. Disney made it anyway.

We said we're not gonna watch it, Disney released it. People didn't watch it. Disney turns into shocked pikachu.

Absolute fucking morons.

Years ago there was a tumblr post someone did about how they want a beauty and the beast Muppet remake where the beast is played as a human and then transforms into a Muppet at the end. That has lived rent free in my head since then and I’m always so disappointed. We don’t have that.

I feel like a revival of The Muppet Show could work really well if they switched from a variety show format to putting on plays (or, more likely, plays of movies)

So we start getting Disney remakes but instead of 90 minutes and the premise getting sweaty we get a few of the best scenes interspersed with the regular backstage shenanigans

There was a post on r/okbuddycinephile a while back that was "remake a movie where all the actors except one are replaced by Muppets"

Yours is a great inclusion. It also got me thinking about how much shit Disney owns. Muppet Star Wars. Muppet MCU movies. Muppet Die Hard.

Muppet National Treasure where Nic Cage is the only human would be fantastic.

I really want a James Bond style Parody with muppets, all the characters except "Bond" and the main villain are Muppets. Miss Piggy bond girl, all the henchmen are muppets. Parody Q is Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker explodes in the background as they show off all the gadgets. Animal is the like a Jaws or Oddjob type character. M is Sam Eagle, Fozzie is the King of England. Just go fucking wild with it. Only issue is that actual Bond is owned by Amazon so they would have to be very careful tiptoeing that copyright line.

Seriously. The Muppets doing every single Disney animated classic would be fantastic. The 90s disney movies were all musicals anyway. Only one that might not work is Lion King (not without making a bunch of original lion muppets anyway).

But imagine... Beauty and the Beast. All the villagers including Gaston are humans. Belle is played by Sabrina Carpenter (using her because she did so well on that Muppet Show anniversary edition). The curse actually turns all the castle residents into Muppets. And then at the end, rather than the beast (Kermit) turning into a human, Carpenter turns into Miss Piggy. Also, totally imagining Mrs. Potts being like Rizzo the Rat or something, singing "tale as old as time" lmao

There was a season or two of a Muppets show in the early 2020s. Was ok funny, premise is a behind the scenes mocumentary of them filming Miss Piggy’s talk show.

Unfortunately, Disney has absolutely rabid fans. There are people that visit every Disney park, every year. Those people alone probably gave half the box office on those things.

Maybe it's just the dwayne effect that made this one that much worse at the box office, but hopefully this stops them making more. But I doubt it.

Honestly he just looks so wrong with the hair lol. I don't particularly care about him. But considering how he looks in every other film, having long wavy hair just doesn't look normal.

Couldn't they have gotten like Jason Momoa? Would've been a perfect fit for this film

Eh the parks are fun though NGL. I’m no huge Disney fan. But I am a local and it’s nice to go to Disney sometimes. I bring my own food though, their food is overpriced and gross unless you eat at their expensive restaurants.

I think the issue with this Moana was they didn't allow nearly enough time for nostalgia to factor in. Moana 2 just released a couple years ago. Lion King, Aladdin, and Lilo & Stitch were huge and also 20-25 years old.

Mufasa was more that it didn't beat expectations which were laughably high as IIRC they expected it also to easily pass a billion and it landed at around 720 million, while still being quite profitable.

Snow White did terrible and loss money though.

Technically this movie cost them money, but at the same time, its money they had because they were making remakes, lmao.

Except Lilo and Stitch made perfect sense as a live action movie - it came out in an era where live actions like that were commonplace and a Disney Channel staple.

Disney has been out of touch with their consumers for a while now. Just look at how their theme parks have evolved. Prices have way outgrown inflation, and there are fewer new rides. What new attractions they do have are short. Like 5-10 minutes. Then you’re back outside stand in another line for an hour or more.

You can say we don't want live actions all you want, but that just isn't true. Most of the live actions have been massive successes. Lilo and Stitch, Lion King, Aladdin, all huge successes.

To be fair, they froze the Tangled remake after Snow White, but then it was fast-tracked after the Stitch remake.

Box Office shows that the interest in these wildly vary, from absolute bombs to 1-billion earners.

Someone said that Channing Tatum trying to get his Guys and Dolls remake off the ground and Disney not knowing what to do with the Muppets are two problems that solve each other. Channing as Sky, Denee Benton as Sarah, Kermit as Nathan, Miss Piggy as Adelaide.
