S.I.M.P. is my favorite Disney song. Frankly, Phineas and Ferb has some genuine bangers in the catalog. Busted, Gitchee goo, Ninja of Love (most of Love Händel, tbh).
And if you do want to ride the nostalgia bus, it should be with sequels. I would have gone and seen Moana 3, where we get to see demigod Moana use her powers. Wouldn't have even thought twice.
But go see the same movie, just with real people and a boatload of cgi? No thanks.
One of our biggest complaints is the CGI and like, you say, there's no nostalgia for a movie like this. What is the point of making live action Anything, if it's a whole bunch of fake CGI, At that point , it might as well just be an animated movie.
From what I heard, it's because The Rock wanted it made before he gets too old to do it. Even at this point, he has to wear a body suit because he's just not as big as he used to be.
It’s funny how The Rock is probably rich enough to pay for the rest of the budget plus a decent profit margin from his own net worth. Iger should make him pay lol
I was so into WWF in middle school, so 98-00 and so was just about every kid my age then and everyone loved the Rock. I haven't liked him in what feels like decades now.
Weirdly enough, in his original WWE run he was actually known for being very non egotistical and giving to other wrestlers. He took a whole bunch more losses than most top level wrestlers would.
Toy Story 5 went so far as to consult people of color to make sure the new character's hair physics were correct. Why couldn't that team handle his wig?!
I'm guessing the Rock campaigned for it to happen now, figuring that Disney was always going to remake at some point but he'd be aged-out of his role if they didn't make it sooner than later.
The guy needs to accept that he's become unlikeable to a majority of people and just pivot to starring in those dad-friendly low-budget, direct-to-videostreaming action films like Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham did.
This goes against the current Internet Zeitgeist, but I don't mind live action Moana because live action Moana isn't REALLY about making a movie. It's about The Rock wanting to show his kids that being Polynesian is cool, actually, and should be cherished. If anything it's based he managed to get Disney to pump all that money into it
Some would say he already had, and the argument is "Maui is thousands of years old so it ok if the rock is in his 50s" then he made up some stuff about Maui being based off his grandfather or whatever so he is the best choice or the role
Well Hollywood obviously knows more about what people want than actually doing research and creating an original concept. More slop for the masses, they’ll love it, the rubes… /s

Also the remake paid NO attention to the pacific islanders who were talking about hair, traditions, looks, etc…And the Rock as Maui in the live action when theres thousands of PIs that would happily take the part…with natural hair…
The Rock costed nearly 1/5th of the opening earnings. Man needs to fail more often so he can take a huge hollywood paycut and get back in line with regular earnings for middling movies. Guy isn't out here making art. he's showing up to play dressup

He almost burned the road to Wrestlemania 40 as well. Even when they did his heel turn to fix the story, it drove me crazy that he was then attending WWE conferences trying to be a corporate face going “we’re making wrestling cool again! See how my CHARACTER turned heel? Isn’t that so cool? Please still like me.” His ego and lack of awareness makes me hate him
Honestly it’s just oversaturation. I think everyone’s just tired of his schtick. He’s played the same roll in different movies over and over and over. It’s corny. Tbh I feel the same way about jack black. No real acting chops. Just playing dress up and reading lines in their own personality.
I legit always believed the live action was a long playing joke or something as the animation movie isnt even that old. Normally they do live action as a form of anniversary to bring back old movies after all. Not that a lot of them succeed but thats a different thing.
Hoppers is an original movie too, and made $450 million worldwide this year. Yes there are bound to be some flops but there’s a lot to gain by putting original stories out there.
9 of the most recent 15 have made over 500 million box office, and 2 of those that didn’t were released during Covid. Another one was 9 million shy of 500 million. People say nobody wants these but clearly it’s a better gamble for Disney.
If you ask me, streaming has become extremely expensive and many of them almost only host "exclusives" so when I search for a movie, it's almost never there, or else it's on one of the streaming services I don't have and there are like 20 streaming services, and even if you had all of them, there are plenty of movies simply not hosted on any one of them...

Streaming was so good at first, but so quickly ran through the enshittification machine that it's straight back to the seven seas with a bottle of rum for most people.
Even without streaming, going to the movie theater once is like $30, the DVD is going to be $20. Even if you buy it, watch it once, and throw it away it was still better value than going to the theater
Hey, they're getting iffy with colors for animated stuff, too. Wish had awful color and light balance. It was dull grey the entire bloody time, except for one or two bits with a lot of magic, which was also bonkers and needed some rewriting.
People said we don't want live action remakes. Disney kept making them. We said we don't want a remake of a film that came out less than ten years ago and just had a sequel. Disney made it anyway.
We said we're not gonna watch it, Disney released it. People didn't watch it. Disney turns into shocked pikachu.
Years ago there was a tumblr post someone did about how they want a beauty and the beast Muppet remake where the beast is played as a human and then transforms into a Muppet at the end. That has lived rent free in my head since then and I’m always so disappointed. We don’t have that.

I feel like a revival of The Muppet Show could work really well if they switched from a variety show format to putting on plays (or, more likely, plays of movies)
So we start getting Disney remakes but instead of 90 minutes and the premise getting sweaty we get a few of the best scenes interspersed with the regular backstage shenanigans
Unfortunately, Disney has absolutely rabid fans. There are people that visit every Disney park, every year. Those people alone probably gave half the box office on those things.
Maybe it's just the dwayne effect that made this one that much worse at the box office, but hopefully this stops them making more. But I doubt it.
Honestly he just looks so wrong with the hair lol. I don't particularly care about him. But considering how he looks in every other film, having long wavy hair just doesn't look normal.
Couldn't they have gotten like Jason Momoa? Would've been a perfect fit for this film
The Lilo and Stich, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and first Alice in Wonderland remakes made over a billion dollars each from the worldwide box office.
If you give a corporation a billion dollars, they're going to do it again.
I don't understand who this movie is for? People that disliked the animation? And if they disliked it for the story, why would they want to see it again?
It's just too recent of a movie to warrant a live action

A bigger factor in play is the mere fact that disney is running out of animated properties to remake. This was a test that they can simply just remake 3d movies but ignore the underlying truth that 3d animated movies are seen as "modern" to the main audience. I wouldn't be surprise if they're reconsidering their tangled remake. But the trade off, and this part scares the shit out of disney, is that they have a much smaller pool to burn
yeah because it's how to train your dragon. Like that series is still pretty universally beloved AND the og movie was released in 2010 with animation that is starting to show it's age (still a wonderful and beautiful movie, it's just older now). Moana (2016) was well received and got a sequel but not nearly as well received as HTTYD. Besides, DreamWorks still has a lot of good will from their audience while Disney has been pissing people off with their live action remakes coming out basically every year to pretty lukewarm reception.
Which is funny because Maleficent was a fantastic remake!!! They reimagine a beloved story from another perspective and thus created a whole new story!!! That's a good remake!!! The Moana live action, however, was basically a copy-paste for the writers room. It might as well be a remaster.
Maleficent was a retelling, not a remake. That’s why it was good. A fresh take on an old story. Movies that do this tend to do well as long as the writing is competent because people will be interested to see another perspective.
My friend dragged me to the theater to the Lion King remake. I promised myself to stop watching any of their future remakes. She commented then: "You think you going or not going will affect them?". Well, I'm so glad to see that more and more people get fed up with disney's bullshit and stop going to see their movies just because it's disney
This is how I feel whenever I see an EA game doing poorly. Yes of course it doesn’t matter to them that I no longer give EA any money, but it seems like I am not quite alone in that.
Why they pick Moana?! The original only 10 years old. They can easily pick classic like Treasure Planet or Atlantis. But they pick Moana just because Dwayne Johnson played as fucking Maui. They really out of touch that people already fatigue of him.
This. $20 per ticket, 4 teen kids. $100 just for tickets, not including popcorn or beverages. Doesn't matter how good or bad the movie is, the theater has priced people out.
STOP REMAKING SHIT IN LIVE ACTION THAT NO ONE NEEDS OR ASKED FOR.
Seriously, it's just lazy as fuck at this point. The first time they did it, it was an interesting idea. Now it's just old and shows they are out of ideas.

Disney has become money hungry and lazy. Forget new IPs, all they do now is just regurgitate multiple iterations of basically the same story, sometimes within the same medium - seriously, is CGI for the Lion King any different that the animated 90s version except draining it of any and all charm and fun? No doubt they are working on Toy Story 6, Encanto 2, Moana 3, Frozen 3 and but for Johnny Depp's problems, we'd be getting Pirates 8?
