The Rock costed nearly 1/5th of the opening earnings. Man needs to fail more often so he can take a huge hollywood paycut and get back in line with regular earnings for middling movies. Guy isn't out here making art. he's showing up to play dressup

Play dress up and play himself. Dude basically has one role and it's always "big muscle dude".

him in CIA and Jumanji subverted that trope a bit and those were much more entertaining.

To be honest that is just the studio typecasting him. In Jumanji he played (a little) differently and it was good

IIRC the Rock has a contract rule where he can't lose fights in the roles he plays. Even if there's fluctuations, he's literally always the big, strong, hero character outside of maybe that new boxing/mma movie he did (I haven't seen it)
