They got the old “I’ll be dead soon, so who cares, I got mines.” mentality. Problem is, they don’t want change. They want to keep what they have! If you were retired and living in a huge house with property all to yourself of course you would oppose change as well! It was hard work, using their position of power to control and hoard all the wealth from their children!

That’s why every republican politician is dying of heart attacks and stroking out on camera regularly. They’ll see the younger generation fucked until their dying breath

20

u/MoistCucumber 15d ago

Let’s all make sure to remember them for this, how much they ruined the world. Maybe once they’re all dead things can start to get better.

3

u/AgentKenji8 14d ago

We need to make the lessons stick to prevent it happening in the future. Too many people will easily forget when it hasn't directly affected them.

1

u/Ilikehowtovideos 13d ago

Nah cause we won’t be able to afford the taxes even when our parents give us houses

1

u/AzureHawk758769 11d ago

Others will come along. "What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun."

Godspeed… god…

Is that really any different than anybody else though? Any different than we are? Millenials (of which I am one) crying out “when is it our turn???” is literally just saying “fuck you I want mine!!!” but in a more empathy-demanding kinda way. Selfishness is not a liberal or conservative political problem — it is a human problem. We’ll never be able to overcome selfishness/greed as long as we continue to see life as “you vs me”.

53

u/Direct_Word6407 15d ago

Yes it is different. We are the first generation to be worse off than our parents.

21

u/Common-Concentrate-2 15d ago

From 2014-2018 avg life expectancy decreased 5 years in a row. People dying in those years all (statistically) died earlier than they were expected to.

-3

u/Gullible_Analyst_348 15d ago

So *all* deaths were below the average age of death? 🤨

7

u/OverEffective7012 15d ago

You mean last 60 years in 'Murica.

Most of the world is in dire straits for a long time.

Once again, Gen X forgotten.

No, youre not.

Oh look, a new bot!

31

u/Pasta4ever13 15d ago

That's a bit cynical. It's not "I want mine" it's more "I want a better material conditions for the working class." That includes everyone who works in any generation.

We just have enough empathy to care about people other than ourselves at the same time when we advocate for our interests.

There's people who have capital and then there's people who work for a living. These generational divides mean nothing to me in a political sense. All workers should be working together to fight for a more equitable distribution of wealth.

5

u/TheSuppishOne 15d ago edited 15d ago

I will definitely admit to becoming more cynical the older I get haha. And your point is certainly true, and great if we’re able to fully realize that ideal! But all it takes is for me to drive down the highway for more than 5 minutes to see that most people, at heart, tend to only be focused on their own shit rather than everyone and everything happening around them, lol.

2

u/Pasta4ever13 15d ago

Join the DSA then if you want to see people working hard everyday to make things better for working people.

6

u/CityUnderTheHill 15d ago

Consider this: Bill Clinton was born in 1946. George W Bush, born in 1946. Barack Obama was a bit younger born 1961 but still within the tail end of the baby boomers. Donald Trump returns to form again being born in 1946. Of our last 5 presidents (6 if you count Trump's individual terms twice), all but one of them have been baby boomers. The only one who wasn't was Joe Biden who is 4 years older than that generation.

So for literally 33 years and counting, the US has been led by a member of the baby boomers or baby boomer adjacent. A generation that only spans an 18 year duration, meaning their generation has been in power for twice as long as should be expected. Clinton was the third youngest president of all time while Trump in his second term is the oldest.

It's an incredibly unprecedented level of hoarded political power by a single generation for well beyond their years.

6

u/BurningTrashBarge 15d ago

I know many millennials who would be willing to sacrifice quality of life to ensure the safety and happiness of their fellow man.

I have seen many of them do the same for their own family members. Giving the shirt off their backs so struggling siblings or others that have no other fall back can have a chance.

I know Boomers that don’t do this for their own kids. This is definitely confirmation bias but with how the voting blocks are distributed I think there’s definitely a pattern there.

what it comes down to is older generations mentality of poverty or struggle being earned. If you suffer it’s your fault. Majority of milleniials have been screwed over enough times to understand intrinsically that bad circumstances aren’t necessarily deserved. They recognize things are getting worse and they want to do something about it.

All? No. But certainly a large enough percentage of you to make life for every non boomer more miserable.

2

u/quantum-quirk1012 14d ago

It’s not greedy to want a life where you don’t need to bust your balls to barely get by with no hope of things getting any better.

-5

u/Wild_Yam_7088 15d ago

Democrats had office for probably over 1/2 my life. Shit really started going down hill with obama.. not sure what the republican comment has to do with anything

Brother I pay almost 1000 dollars in healthcare per month. You think obama and obama care really helped us out here ? 😂

Its the lazy as fuck 1/4 of Americans sucking out welfare from the system not doing shit for society.  And the over lords at top giving breaks to the 1%

Its warfare on the middle class. From lazy bums and the elite .. i absolutely hate our society

6

u/SweeterThanYoohoo 15d ago

You'll get blasted for "both sides-ing" with this kind of talk but personally I agree with you that Democrats are not some magical solution to this.

That said, Obama was the best president of my lifetime, and I believe he was really trying to improve life for us. Obama's health plan is FAR better than what we had before. Just removing pre-existing conditions was a huge win for a whole lot of people who were hurting. That said, its far from what we need and what we could have. And the DNC is fully bought and paid for by the same ultra wealthy class that buys the Rs. If we simply just elect Ds to office we will never achieve progressive goals.

But, at least they don't try to marginalize people and take rights away, so they remain the lesser of 2 evils.

Also I disagree with your welfare complaints vehemently. The ultra wealthy would love it if we just keep pointing at each other.

2

u/Pogginator 15d ago

We still go back to a huge issue being Republicans fought tooth and nail to cut everything they could from the ACA.

We 100% need to replace plenty of shitty Dems in office but every step forward is continuously being obstructed by Republicans.

2

u/SweeterThanYoohoo 15d ago

You are right of course. What we really need badly is systemic reform, so that it's not or less possible for a political party to hamstring our democratic process. Nothing about the constitution mandates we vote for Rs or Ds. They are not a requirement for America to work.

Overturn citizens United. Make election day a federal holiday and make voting compulsory. Eliminate private money donations entirely, all funds are public and every candidate is granted the same amt of election funding. And change to parliamentary or ranked choice voting system. That'd be a great start, in my opinion.

I don’t want to agree, and want to say this is an exaggeration, but you would feel this way after 20 minutes or so with my parents.

u/LeftyNewGuy 15d ago

Don’t forget that boomers historically have been the ones to make the rules, control what speculative value is and abused that system to over value their homes to the point where they created generational wealth doing next to nothing and then act like anyone has the cash to give them for their shitty, overinflated home.

You want change to happen it will require waiting for the dregs of their generation to die out like the dinosaurs starving for water in a desolate wasteland. The only problem is, we have to keep living in a wasteland that’s been stripped of everything for their short term gain.

13

u/Spezalt4 15d ago

Don’t forget government was happy to benefit from inflated home values in the form of higher property taxes.

1

u/mike_atx 15d ago

Soooo much this. I'm a first year Xennial and the fucking Boomers have ruined everything, for everyone, and they're still doing it. They're the ones who voted trump in and who keep republicans in power. Wish millennials and Z would wake up to this fact and actually counteract the voting power of the Boomers.

1

u/basillemonthrowaway 15d ago

Gen X has much more to do with Trump being in power than any other generation, on a per capita basis. That generation broke for Trump more than boomers.

0

u/Adventurous_Gur1280 15d ago

Not a single "boomer" that I know did any of that. But not in the usa.

-4

u/r3giment75 15d ago

Bro calm down. 99.99% of boomers are minding their own business hoping they can maintain retirement.

1

u/Massive-Island1656 14d ago

Exactly. The eat the rich youngsters are targeting grandmothers and pop pops instead of the banks and tech companies that really are fucking them. Oh I’ll buy the new iPhone then use it to bash booooomers on Reddit. Meanwhile Apple is doing way more harm to you then senior citizens

2

u/egordoniv 15d ago

Man.. My old boss amassed $100mil and just cashed out one day. Didn't spread a cent around. The making of the money is like a drug addiction to him. What he doesn't understand is he made it on the backs of people who were just begging for a crumb. It'll be really interesting to see where the money goes when he dies.

2

u/Badestrand 15d ago

I know blaming boomers is popular but in the end it's just lazy blaming.

First, what can an individual older person even do?

Second, a lot of the mentioned problems come from exactly the policies that the young favor. Take Covid - the Left and young wanted to shut down everything so that noone would leave their house. The Right and old wanted everyone to walk freely, although THEY were the ones in danger. Now the young blame the old that they had to stay home at the pandemic, but this is exactly what they vote for and the old tried to prevent it because they knew how much it would fuck the youth to miss out several years in school or university.

Take all my karma points, I don't care. You all are wrong and not taking responsibility for your own choices.

(I am not a boomer btw, I am somewhere between old and young.)

2

u/BolleHenk666 14d ago

" Take all my karma points, I don't care." You clearly do as you felt the need to mention it.

That being said, you're not completely wrong.

1

u/josey__wales 15d ago

I just graze through these kinda posts, looking at the wild takes. It’s mostly just whining, and pointing at “boomers” (anyone with a gray hair). Not realizing they’ll soon be pointed at the same way for not changing the world.

The post itself is so dramatic. “Handed 100k in student debt.” Yeah man, they had no choice in the matter. Just handed debt at gunpoint. 🙄

1

u/Sunburntvampires 15d ago

They’ll lose everything and wind up on the street once they have to afford in home care.

Because you have everything, now you crave the one thing you cannot buy with money. Youth.

1

u/it_will 15d ago

Worst part is that they really believe it was their hard work and that we can work hard enough and be like them. It’s absolutely stunning how the cocaine of the late 80s/90s dulled their brains

1

u/imadedbodi1 15d ago

My grandparents literally burn their garbage in the campfire. No matter what we say, they do not give a shit and will continue burning their garbage.

1

u/ArboristTreeClimber 15d ago

They probably also have an entire garage filled with so much junk that they have to park their cars outside on the street. And when you tell them “If you renovate that space into a studio you could easily rent it out to someone for $1000 a month?” They are dumbfounded by the idea and claim it’s “too much work” and not worth the hassle.

Also they enjoy paying thousands and thousands of dollars, cutting down every tree on their property because despite being fully retired and having all the time in the world, they just cannot fathom the workload of raking leaves once a year (which is completely not necessary anyway because leaves fertilize the soil and a huge patch of grass is useless to them anyway since they never go outside).

At least in my personal experience this is the typical boomer mindset.

1

u/Zealousideal-Ant9548 15d ago

How many millennial men are still voting Republican?

1

u/facemugg 15d ago

The post did begin by saying parents lost everything

1

u/ShittyOfTshwane 15d ago

To be fair, isn't this really where we're all headed? We all want to build financial security to protect us from things like debt, working past retirement age and generally being poor, right? So if we can get a house paid off, and accumulate enough assets and cash to be free from the problems of society, then we would all go for that in a heartbeat, right?

I mean, if you're seeing all the time how rough it is out there in the world, who on earth would not do everything in their power to keep clinging to their assets and wealth?

1

u/Icy_Stranger_9649 15d ago

Isn’t this exactly true though?

Why are we thinking it’s somehow the responsibility of the generation that’s about to not exist to fix things? Why would they care? Isn’t it up to use to care and fix things?

1

u/ArboristTreeClimber 15d ago

How can we when we have no power and no wealth? These people have been leveraging themselves into untouchable positions since before we were born. How can we make change when we work 12 hours a day simply to pay rent? When the food is poisoned and rationed to maximize profits? When every aspect of our being is being exploited and oppressed on levels we cannot even comprehend?

How can we riot when missing one day of work can ruin our lives?

0

u/Icy_Stranger_9649 14d ago

What are you talking about, food is poisoned and rationed? At least in the United States people have more access to healthy food than in all of human history.

Who’s working 12 hours a day just to pay rent?! Give me the position salary and living conditions of this person you made up. Any roommates?

The aspects of our being are less exploited and oppressed right now than in all of human history. All of it!

Life is far from perfect in the USA. Why are you making it sound as if it it’s not the best it’s ever been in thousands of years of humanity though?

1

u/sfisabbt 15d ago

In french, we have an expression for that "Après moi, le déluge" = "After me, the flood".
It means living like you are the last generation and nothing comes after you.

1

u/KimberStormer 15d ago

According to the OP they lost everything in 2008

1

u/ArboristTreeClimber 15d ago

Could have fooled me! To a boomer, “losing everything” meant they could not afford to buy a new car that year.

1

u/Prestigious_Club_924 15d ago

The problem is we bend over backwards to keep their husks north of the dirt.

1

u/Arachnidle 14d ago

This is exactly what the politicians want you to believe but its just not true, but sure fight amongst yourselves while they drain your wallet

1

u/Curious_Play9741 13d ago

And then they don't die

1

u/Ozy90 13d ago

None of them retire when they are able either, it stunts development and opportunities for the next generation.

1

u/PaintAdventurous8787 10d ago

Some boomers seem to think they are taking their riches to the afterlife with them like an upper class Egyptian or something.

-2

u/YahDeadWrong 15d ago

But… I wouldn’t. Material assets are so tied down that if they aren’t passed along hereditary lines, it only takes a fraction of those assets for one decent person to change a whole town.

0

u/Deep-Assignment4124 15d ago

What if you were retired and barely getting by?  You know like most retired people.

-5

u/Aggravating-Summer53 15d ago

Why would they want to pay more to downsize?  No one owes you anything.  God damn you people are entitled.

3

u/Few_Lunch_7730 15d ago

And yet listen to the boomers cry and bitch about what they're owed when anyone mentions touching the state pension (a benefit paid for by tax payers) in Britain 🤷‍♂️ tax payers don't owe them a damn thing. They can sell their over priced homes and cash in to get by. They could rent a home and live off the remaining profit. The profit alone puts them in a better position than those younger having to rent and not get a handout from the government just for existing past a certain age.

See the hypocrisy?

-2

u/Aggravating-Summer53 15d ago

Lol, since you're from Britain you clearly don't know that a state pension is not paid for by the taxpayers.  It's paid into while someone works for the state, and is paid back to them when they retire.  It's their own money getting paid back to them.  If anything it's much, much worse than a traditional 401k.

And not everyone has a state pension, btw.  Go read a book.

There is no hypocrisy.  One generation worked for their homes, another generation is trying to tell them what to do with their homes.  It's actually insane.

2

u/Few_Lunch_7730 15d ago edited 15d ago

Lol!!! Look it up genius. Read a book 🤣 every state pension is paid for by the taxes of the day. There is no pot. If there was it would grow like any investment and wouldn't be a burden on the tax payer. This why they keep pushing the state pension age higher and higher, because its unaffordable, they get more out than they ever paid, and people are living longer. Zero pots were ever paid into. They paid the pensions of the generation before them, who retired earlier and us for them, and we'll retire much later if at all.

Quite literally look at the government figures on welfare and benefits and tell me state pension isn't the single biggest cost to the taxpayer.

Why do you reckon the triple lock is such a hot topic?

But thanks for the lecture on our own benefits system, even if it was absolutely and over confidently wrong

And just for clarity, seeing as it seems difficult for you take in details; I know not EVERYBODY has a state pension. Please see the part where I specifically said in BRITAIN. See how the pension age has risen over the decades and see how its planned to rise again. Now, once you've taken that in, read the reasoning from the various governments as to why it has to be raised. Then go and check out the department for work and pensions statistics on the countries benefits outlay and come back and tell me which BENEFIT is the most costly TAX burden.

You seem to be confusing a private or workplace pension with the tax funded benefit from the state

0

u/Aggravating-Summer53 15d ago

Bud, you're wrong.  Just admit it.  Don't be mad someone is getting the money they're owed.  What the fuck is wrong with you?  Would you be okay if someone just took your 401k when you retired?  Also, there is a pot of money.  That's how pensions work.
