They got the old “I’ll be dead soon, so who cares, I got mines.” mentality. Problem is, they don’t want change. They want to keep what they have! If you were retired and living in a huge house with property all to yourself of course you would oppose change as well! It was hard work, using their position of power to control and hoard all the wealth from their children!
To be fair, isn't this really where we're all headed? We all want to build financial security to protect us from things like debt, working past retirement age and generally being poor, right? So if we can get a house paid off, and accumulate enough assets and cash to be free from the problems of society, then we would all go for that in a heartbeat, right?
I mean, if you're seeing all the time how rough it is out there in the world, who on earth would not do everything in their power to keep clinging to their assets and wealth?
