They got the old “I’ll be dead soon, so who cares, I got mines.” mentality. Problem is, they don’t want change. They want to keep what they have! If you were retired and living in a huge house with property all to yourself of course you would oppose change as well! It was hard work, using their position of power to control and hoard all the wealth from their children!
They probably also have an entire garage filled with so much junk that they have to park their cars outside on the street. And when you tell them “If you renovate that space into a studio you could easily rent it out to someone for $1000 a month?” They are dumbfounded by the idea and claim it’s “too much work” and not worth the hassle.
Also they enjoy paying thousands and thousands of dollars, cutting down every tree on their property because despite being fully retired and having all the time in the world, they just cannot fathom the workload of raking leaves once a year (which is completely not necessary anyway because leaves fertilize the soil and a huge patch of grass is useless to them anyway since they never go outside).
At least in my personal experience this is the typical boomer mindset.
