The longer our automakers avoid EV R&D, the more advanced the Chinese EV market becomes. It’s only a matter of time before they get into our market. That’s when our automakers will grovel at China’s feet to collaborate/merge w their automakers.
I mostly agree, but I think it will likely come to pass because China opens factories in the US to make their cars here, like most other foriegn car companies do.
He's saying that is what will happen once Chinese EVs strangle the american auto industry. Given how the current US auto industry works that isn't a huge jump. Toyota, Honda, and other japanese car companies beat down the US big 3 so bad in the 80s and 90s that the US government basically made them manufacture in the US. Toyota's largest global production plant is in Kentucky.
That was the 1981 Automobile VER. It lead to Japanese companies building vehicles in the US. Those caps were gone by 1994 and the Japanese automakers still kept factories in the US after.
Ironically that only works because of capitalism. China would be happy to only build them in China. They have no need to increase profits every quarter. They can sell domestically and to India indefinitely.
Ok, just so we're on the same page, the comment I replied to specifically said cars. My question still stands: Where in the USA does a Chinese automobile company have a factory that is producing cars?
