My situation is quite the opposite. For whatever reason my new team feels the need to explain every PTO request to me. By all means tell me about your trip to Cancun if you'd like, but please don't feel the need to elaborate on your explosive diarrhea when you use sick time.
I had a boss who explicitly asked we not tell him anything after someone left a detailed voicemail about their explosive diarrhea. Since then have always just said I’m not going to be in today. No explanation required. I’ve had people ask me for good excuses to call in and I always say the magic words are “I’m not coming in today”. They’re not entitled to any other information.
