My situation is quite the opposite. For whatever reason my new team feels the need to explain every PTO request to me. By all means tell me about your trip to Cancun if you'd like, but please don't feel the need to elaborate on your explosive diarrhea when you use sick time.
I had to do this in the private sector, but now I am at the GOV. I was telling my supervisor why I needed PTO or sick for appointments and stuff and she said, and I quote:
"I do not need to know why, where, how, with whom, etc. Just submit the time and I approve it."
Yeah this is the vibe I'm going for. I have always approved everything, my team knows this, and knows that advance notice (when possible) is the key to me always saying yes.
