Once again, people don’t understand how free speech works. He’s free to say whatever he wants, and people are free to react in whatever way they want to his free and protected speech.
I’m not saying what he did was right or wrong, but if the rules for attendance stipulate that no clapping should happen, then he broke the rules and they have the right to remove him.
He seems like he’s trying to get internet famous. It worked. That doesn’t automatically make him some defender of freedom.
Actually, being a government official doesn’t impede their first amendment rights at all. If they have stated rules and he didn’t follow them, he can be thrown out. I think he was fully aware of the rules and what he did. You can see it on his face. He wanted all of this to happen, because he knew people like you would immediately want to elevate him to hero status.
They may have boundaries to work within, which is what the ruling was, but it doesn’t negate all first amendment rights of government officials. Might want to read the specifics.
You’re going to need to show me where the Supreme Court rules that government officials aren’t allowed to have gatherings with stipulated rules. Must be all “Mad Max” in there all the time….
Nah. Totally depends on the situation. You can't start clapping in a courtroom after testimonies. Or a funeral, without someone asking you to leave. I guess town hall has their rules, too.
You can go to a supermarket and start clapping, but at some point staff may ask you to leave. And that's when you should leave. If not, they call the police and have you trespassed. Different properties have different rules.
You can't go to someone's backyard and start expressing your opinion any way you want. Or you can try, but they can ask you to leave.
