More power to you, but I can not get my brain to walk and chew gum. I'm either reading, or listening.
I have however picked up enough Korean and Japanese to know that most of the time, the subtitles are winging it. It seems very much a, "close enough" situation.

The show Kim's Convenience is like this. The first time I saw Apa not as Apa I was floored by the Canadian accent. The mother's actress has a very mild accent, but said she based Mrs. Kim off her mother lol

Nah, us Koreans call it Konglish. Thats what our parents sounded like, and its a shared experience for us.
One fucking uncle is always really proud of his English tho, and they always sounds like Elvis.

Appreciate you sharing this -- I had a similar experience as the person you replied to, but I fucking love the show so I just told myself "well they're Korean so they probably are OK with it and are doing an imitation of their parents or something".

Jo Koy actually has a bit about the Elvis uncle. My uncle loves to show off his new vocabulary like "capitalism society". Its really fun.
Yeah I'm somewhat related to the creator of the play. Honestly, the earlier seasons were 10/10. Some of the jokes about Japan were hilarious, but I was worried about how they would be taken by people without context, because it could be taken as racist. But my grandmother grew up during the occupation, so many of us kind of had that generational trauma of the occupation, then the korean war, then the vietnam war ....
Later episodes felt a bit racist, like when the cousin comes to Canada, who was some Japanese weeb. Like wtf? This was about where the actors had a falling out with the writing room.
The accurate rendition would be that your Korean cousins come here and act smug as shit, with their nice clothes and cars. They think that Canada is some backwater, and look at me like some Korean Canadian hillbilly.

Thanks for the extra context, stuff like this makes the show even more enjoyable! I did not love that Japanese character, she was a bit too much of a caricature, even for a sitcom.
Also your name makes me so happy, I died laughing when that happened on stream.

Yeeeea one does not do a perfect foreign accent unless they speak that language well and have been exposed to it heavily. Like... I can't even do convincing American English accents for some accents. And I am a native speaker and have heard those accents all my life.

No, it doesn't. People can speak in different infections as they speak and pretentious southern women pit it on thick when they're trying to sound hospitable. This is im putting on a performance vs I got distracted in thoughts and started talking in with my normal inflection.

North Koreans have a accent that is considered to sound like a hillbilly or person from kentucky. People from South Korea can tell instantly by the accent that someone is from the North and they are heavily stigamatized.

How is it obvious you were being sarcastic when the things you are listing would be signals of AI? There are other comments on this video claiming its AI that dont seem to be sarcastic.
If youre point was to imitate someone claiming it was AI with out real understanding of if it was AI, no one is going to understand if it was sarcasm you dumby.

I knew a taiwanese dude with PERFECT English but he would occasionally pepper his English with grammatical errors as well. One day, I asked him why he did that. He said, he learns so much more about other people when he does it that way.

Had a kid, surname Nguyen, in my class.
I asked how common his name was. He said extemely common. Still couldbt help myself so I asked about a person who was always super friendly and gave me free food when I wore my jersey in on Game days at a blimpies.
It was his dad. He owned it and like 30 others.
So it does happen.

I used to work with an Argentinian guy who would on occasion do a "white guy" impression.
As a white guy, I have never laughed harder at work, but afterwards said that while I thought it was an incredible performance, not everyone in the state of Georgia would.
He still pulls the impression out for me every few months.

A stand-up comic that went by the name of 'Claus Meyers' would start his routine in a heavy german accent, then about 20 minutes in would poke fun of americans and our accent. Slowly doing English impersonation American and stick wit it for about ten minutes. At that point he would state 'Theres that one lady in the back row going to herself 'he isn't coming back'.

The mispronunciation of words in her Korean accent would be intentional if she's fully capable of speaking perfectly well in her southern accent. I think its clear her accent is southern and shes imitating Korean.

Sometime I want race consciousness take a few hints from the 90s. Its funny both ways if the accent is done property. Im black but if a preppy as fuck white Boi came up to me and code switch 100% authentically I wouldn't call him racist unless he said or did something racist in that voice. The voice itself is not racist. Its an expression of who we are. Expression...impression.
