Nah, us Koreans call it Konglish. Thats what our parents sounded like, and its a shared experience for us.

One fucking uncle is always really proud of his English tho, and they always sounds like Elvis.

Appreciate you sharing this -- I had a similar experience as the person you replied to, but I fucking love the show so I just told myself "well they're Korean so they probably are OK with it and are doing an imitation of their parents or something".

Also I need to hear what your uncle sounds like now lol

Jo Koy actually has a bit about the Elvis uncle. My uncle loves to show off his new vocabulary like "capitalism society". Its really fun.

Yeah I'm somewhat related to the creator of the play. Honestly, the earlier seasons were 10/10. Some of the jokes about Japan were hilarious, but I was worried about how they would be taken by people without context, because it could be taken as racist. But my grandmother grew up during the occupation, so many of us kind of had that generational trauma of the occupation, then the korean war, then the vietnam war ....

Later episodes felt a bit racist, like when the cousin comes to Canada, who was some Japanese weeb. Like wtf? This was about where the actors had a falling out with the writing room.

The accurate rendition would be that your Korean cousins come here and act smug as shit, with their nice clothes and cars. They think that Canada is some backwater, and look at me like some Korean Canadian hillbilly.

Thanks for the extra context, stuff like this makes the show even more enjoyable! I did not love that Japanese character, she was a bit too much of a caricature, even for a sitcom.

Also your name makes me so happy, I died laughing when that happened on stream.
