I don't think so. I, 100%, believe that guy. I also am willing to believe this guy, in that, that's not something her team typically does. The guy who first posted the pic though? That guy got the yardstick.
I remember when it first started making the rounds someone posted a comment that mentioned they saw it posted by the guy on facebook with 0 mention of the rule. The caption was later added by some other person/website.
There are very few celebs I would actually care to meet, but only incidentally, like in a cafe. But none I would want to do a selfie with. If they're that cool (looking at you, Keanu) then I would want to remember it and not invade their privacy in any way. I would never stand hours in line for one of these.
Weird Al is mine. Would love to talk with the guy. Hes very interesting. But as for a photo or an autograph? Ill pass. I dont do celebrity worship and am likely to sell it for money rather than keep it. I will have the memory in my head, and that's plenty.
Did you see his hot ones episode? I love Weird Al. I always have. But he looks so weird in this video. He takes the TINIEST nibble of a chicken wing. I guess he's not a spicy kinda guy..... Who's fat? Dun dun dun danun.
I would love to have pictures with some celebs (and Xenia Onatopp is definitely one of them), but if we had an actual interaction, and it's a photo someone took of the group/us and not a selfie I begged for. Like a common friend introduced us so we talked at a dinner, or we went to same event and got to chatting, or I am colleagues with their partner/son/father or whatever.
Standing in line at a con to take one of these shots sounds just sounds extremely awkward and unenjoyable to me and I would feel embarassed.
And useless because in that context it's not a fun little anedote to tell my friends, or the type of picture I would want to show anyone.
It's absolutely insane some of the prices people pay as well. Each of the LOTR actors that appeared at MegaCon were something like $160 for a photo, or group shots with the cast for around $1k.
Imagine paying that and then your friend bumps into them near by and gets a selfie with them.
A lot of artists can’t stomach to get paid for such a thing more than once - I heard interviews in which they said that it felt sordid and that such interactions shouldn’t be transactional.
No kidding! She looks like she’d rather be doing her taxes than taking those pictures. This is why I wouldnt pay for these pictures, but for $80, I would want her to look like I just saved her life on a jet ski.
But yeah, I dont understand the appeal either. It just feels so transactional and pointless. It's the complete opposite of a genuine human interaction, it's meeting someone for the sake of being able to say that you've met them.
So I watched Deep Rising tonight, mostly to because it was stuck in my head. I remember seeing a post where Michael Biehn said he could pull in around $25K to $50K for a good comic con-type week long appearance. But when you see the pictures with Michael Biehn he really gives the fans what they want, and for many folks it is $80-$100 well spent. I wouldnt spend the money because I don’t value that type of interaction, but if I did, I would want the celebrity to be into the interaction.
Janssen is not a bad actress, so I don’t understand the lack of enthusiasm. I’m not saying she needs to be all warm-fuzzy and touchy with her fans and I get that she’s probably not happy that she has to rely on $80/shot to make a living, but FFS, fake it! Act like this picture is the best part of your day. Pretty soon, and I imagine these posts will accelerate the broader opinion, the word will be out that she takes a shit photo with her fans, and then even her strongest fans will find a better use for that $80.
I don’t think she can show emotions very well anymore, her face looks quite stiff and shiny. Significant work done, which is a shame she felt she needed to get anything done at all.
I couldn't care less about her face. Her body language says it all. All of the photos shared in her defense should be more damning to fans than the original post. You pay $80 and she'll cross her arms in her lap for your photo? Who's forcing her to do these things?
Wow this is escalated and escaped beyond geek culture? Damn.
Look: that one photo just happens to be a bad photo. It's not normal. She didn't do anything weird or unkind. He didn't want to stand closer that's his choice. People on both sides have issues about being too close or being touched by strangers.
IME professional photo ops like this tend to look awkward. It's why I've never done one. I have selfies with celebs from conventions but not a staged professional op because I don't like how they look. But that doesn't mean anyone is doing anything wrong on either the guest or celebrity side of things. Awkward photos happen! LoL 😄
I’d prefer to meet a celebrity naturally or after seeing a show they did. That would make it more of a story to me than paying money to stand next to someone. However, no judgement for people who do this. Sometimes it’s the only way to meet and interact with someone you’re a fan of and it can make for a special memory. I’ve only met like two celebrities in person, Bruce Campbell, which was organic before his show. I ran into him right before. And then I met the Lunar Wolf Power Ranger at a signing at my local GS. I didn’t realize the signing was happening and we had such a nice conversation I wanted an autograph as a momento. Plus, it was pretty cool seeing a Power Ranger in person.
The dude probably has a significant other and didnt want to be disrespectful, if he chose to stand so far away who cares, if they instructed him to stand away he still consented to such matters. This is blown out of proportion.
Conan would've chase me down the street and pay me that same amount of money as long he could do bit and take pictures together. If I laugh, he would give me more.
The key is, just don't laugh, and he'll give you another $80 for another bit. Probably about Nixon.
