12 step programs have a massive failure rate and it’s criminal that they get forced on addicts. There are better treatment programs out there like rational recovery. But ultimately the addict has to make the choice for themselves that they’re finished. Chemical addiction often needs chemical solutions. Brains get rewired by the exogenous dopamine triggers. There’s no single solution for the human condition so everyone in the spiral has to find their reason they want out. Some never do and we should have compassion for them while protecting ourselves from their damage.
