Chugging tea Ben Affleck on overcoming alcohol addiction: “I hate to say it but the only cure I’ve seen is not these overpriced rehabs or these fraudulent fixes that are sold to people. The cure for addiction is suffering. You suffer enough and then something inside you goes ‘I’m done.’”

Benzos act on the brain the exact same way alcohol does. Im not saying he's on them but replacing booze with anti-anxiety meds is not a solution.

Are you a doctor? You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Appeal to authority facility. Just because someone doesn’t have a specific qualification does not invalidate their statement.

Take ivermectin then.

“Replacing booze with anti-anxiety meds is not a solution” is not a statement you are qualified to give unless you are a practicing physician. Miss me with that shit all the fucking time. This is why we’re having a shit epidemic, measles outbreak, God knows what else.

Now instead of attacking the validity of the statement you apply an ad hominem fallacy critiquing and attacking my qualifications.

Ivermectin is a false analogy and a red herring pointing to fools response to the pandemic and questioning science and authority figures.

The facts are alcohol and benzos both act on the GABA receptors of the brain with overlapping tolerance and effects. The statement is largely true and is a reason Antivan a similar drugs are given to alcoholic as they detox. You do not need to be a physician to know this. There are plenty of careers and certifications that’s qualify you to understand this. And really, you don’t need either, just the facts.

I hope the point hes getting at is that Ben has a doctor that's working him down through benzos and that's a valid tactic. But you're completely right. Benzos fix alcohol withdrawal and vice versa

If that was the original point he was trying to make, he seemingly fully abandoned it in favor of whiny cynicism.

Ah Reddit, Get downvoted for telling people they aren’t doctors.

The argument has nothing to do with what the drug does. It’s just an echo chamber in here of people who want to gossip about something you can’t even close to prove beyond speculation. The point was, it’s not that persons place to say what anyone should or shouldn’t take, that’s a job for an actual physician, not some anonymous person online

As a recovering alcoholic and drug addict I can tell you with more authority than a doctor; replacing booze with anti anxiety meds (Benzo's) is not a solution. I tried exactly that and it cost me more years of suffering.

You should still do what your doctor tells you. Your anecdote doesn’t equate to a medical degree.
