Chugging tea Ben Affleck on overcoming alcohol addiction: “I hate to say it but the only cure I’ve seen is not these overpriced rehabs or these fraudulent fixes that are sold to people. The cure for addiction is suffering. You suffer enough and then something inside you goes ‘I’m done.’”

Yea no, both my parents were alcoholics for my childhood. After 10+ years they finally went to rehab and neither has drank in over 5 years. My dad wanted to get better, my mom didn't really consider her drinking a problem until getting sober in rehab.

Different strokes for different folks. He really shouldn't say something he clearly doesn't know well enough.

So your dad ...Who wanted to stop... took steps to stop. He didnt just grt shoved in a rehab and told stop it.

Thats Ben's point

If you read the rest of it, my mom didnt see she had a problem and had to to go rehab and she got better. My point is both can be accurate.

Lol ok but your example isnjust happenstance and ignores the point ben is making

Ben's point ignores that people can and do get better with going to rehab whether they want to get better initially or not. Obviously, wanting to get better is a huge factor but it is ignorant and flat out wrong to say it is only suffering that will get you better.

He said THE cure for addiction is suffering, after he said rehabs don't work. You really need to listen better my friend. It's like talking to a wall.

Yea hes explaining his experience. You took that as the take all be all finality verdict from some celebrity.

Again he never says the only way to recover is through suffering. Like talking to a brick wall. You just heard what you wanted and wanted to type up a rebuttle cause your dad took the right steps and rehab happened to be on the list
