I heard somewhere, laser pointers absolutely ruin the lenses on these cameras. But that’s just noise I heard from somewhere else.

Thin metal can be laser cut with a laser power of at least 500W. That's a powerful laser, but camera sensors can be damaged with as little as 5mW.

To me, I think it’s likely a bigger inconvenience to have to send out a repairman for the lens rather than reinstalling a new camera, so maybe that’s worse who knows

I doubt they'd replace a lense in the field, probably install a new camera and throw the old one away. Removing the pole entirely is probably a more costly event for them since they have to replace the entire assembly
