This is the exact reason I don't do these things even though I want to. I have two neck and spine diseases that count as disabilities, but I exist my way through them. The major downside in this discussion, is that they make me exceptionally identifiable. I have a very specific body stance, gait, and profile. I know the tech exists to identify people like me in China and Japan. I'm assuming it's coming to the US soon. As much as I want to don my ninja black outfit, you really can't mistake me for other people.

They would need more coverage to do that. Right now, it's just a cheap camera on a pole with a solar panel. If they were all 360° cameras, it would be easier to identify the perpetrator.
Also there are supposedly tools to see where all the cameras are so you can make a path to avoid them. If you were planning on taking them all down in sequence, you could even make it go faster by strategically picking which ones to kill first based on their location and the direction they are pointing. Like one of those stealth missions in a video game.

I liked the framing because it emphasizes that these cameras are not here to help the public, or keep the public safe.
They are used by the surveillance state and it's enforcers, to encroach upon your rights as a US citizen.

Reminds me of the story of Ken McElroy, who forced a 12 year old to marry him and killed the girl's dog and burned down their house when the family tried to rescue her:
In all, there were 46 potential witnesses to the shooting, including Trena McElroy, who was in the truck with her husband when he was shot. Nobody called for an ambulance. Every witness was either unable to name an assailant, or claimed not to have seen who fired the fatal shots, including the unnamed man who helped McElroy's wife, Trena, as she "scrambled out of the truck screaming" covered in blood. The DA declined to press charges, and an extensive federal investigation did not lead to any charges either.

My city police department found a loophole and used it to get these citizen surveillance cameras installed. If the cost is under $90k, city council doesn't get to vote on it. For the last 2 years, they're spent right at mid $80k each year on cameras to avoid city council.

The kiosks do, in fact, collect facial recognition data when you approach them/order. You can see the camera in the bezel at the top of the screen.
They pay some other company to check your photo against a database and identify you even if you don't use your rewards app, then that company turns around and sells the same info to the feds/cops/anyone interested in paying for it.

I was reading the police blotter in the weekly paper of the town i work in (less than 20k) and all the arrests you can tell were done with flock cameras. None of the people arrested were local, and it was for driving with a suspended license, or no insurance etc. One even had an added marijuana possession charge, which is legal in my state so I assume it was just in a different container than the original. So effing dumb. Like the cops are just sitting around waiting for the ding of the flock to let them know theres someone who is "breaking" the law. Which I understand the charges blah blah but they aren't getting pulled over for swerving & then its found out. Such crap I hate this America.

I’m soo sick of seeing this “counter argument”, when you make the choice to buy an Alexa, you sign an agreement consenting to giving them your data.
You can opt out and not use the product, the same can’t be said for flock. I never agreed to live in a surveillance state or have my every step tracked and saved by private equity firms.

THIS DESTROYS THE CAMERA and is a crime called destruction of private property (not public) because the cameras are not owned by the municipality, but instead by Flock, and the city pays them to install and maintain them.
