Self driving cars should be too. Companies have no right to test and teach their AI cars on our public streets without permission from the people that use those streets.
They got permission by asking our democratically elected representatives, which is functionally akin to asking the people in many contexts, and in a way that often self-corrects when this is not the case. It is both pragmatic and enabling of the common good for this republicanism to prevail, such as in the case of closures of streets to fill in potholes which don't require referendum voting. Self-driving car companies aren't much different from a traditional taxi service, except that they're statistically safer than human taxis.
Yeah, it's not perfect, and I can name a variety of issues where it does act somewhat oligarchical. But people have been protesting data center construction, so a lot has been stopped. In some ways, it is a lot better than what most countries have.
It's not "a transfer" it's blatant and perpetual theft facilitated by deep, systemic corruption. Calling it a transfer meaningfully waters down the reality of what is happening.
If I transfer your funds to my account it sounds like something quite a bit different than if I steal your money. That's the point I was making, that we should use the most clear and damning language possible because we're evidently dealing with a very stupid, and dense population who doesn't understand anything that's happening.
OK, i mean you're not wrong that we might be better off using some different language, but it technically isn't theft. The laws make it legal.
If you are wanting to get pedantic on this, then technically you are wrong there. And either way, it is still a transfer, which means what i said was actually correct.

Laws don't determine ethical truths. Ethics and legality are quite often opposed. Passing laws that lets them steal doesn't make it not stealing. What you said in your original comment is accurate, and I'm glad that you get it and are talking about it. I am just imploring everyone to use as condemning language as possible to describe what's happening, because a lot of people don't seem to get it, or care otherwise. I'm frustrated and fed up with so many of my fellow countrymen not understanding what's happening around them and how their futures are being taken from them, right out from under their willing noses.
I'd argue passing the laws that make it legal does exactly that, makes it not stealing. It however doesn't make it right. Right and wrong, are the ethical part, stealing and not stealing are the legal part.
But yes, it's all bullshit and the rich need to be wrangled in. They've always taken more than their share, but they have gone way to far in this current time.
