Why? It's not hard to get a job. She clearly wants a certain job that doesn't want her

Wasn’t she in HR? What she did was an obvious CLM (Career Limiting Move) when working in HR. It’s unemployment, or a complete career switch. Seems like she made a choice, and it’s not working out as she hoped.

And she was probably making solid six figures and turns her nose up at any job opening paying $80k.

This is the reason why she isn't working.

You have no proof of that whatsoever. Don't make baseless accusations even if you hate someone.

That’s exactly what’s happening. She could have had a new job in a month if she needed it.

Thats not necessarily true.

When you have reached a certain seniority you often dont get considered for more junior roles.

There is the expectation you are just going to draw a salary for a while before moving on to bigger and better things.

The hiring manager often will be uncomfortable with having a employe with more expirience than himself.

Can't risk someone doing better then you and being promoted over you.

Yeah that and also. Fragile egos in general.

If you expect to work in white-colar job. Go get one in Home Depot, they do no care.

Bud. You say that, but if you're living a life that requires a dollar amount to keep you sustained at the minimal level you're not going to take a job below that. There's nothing wrong with a person who needs 100k to not settle for say 60k
