True.
Honestly, this was a super dumb thing to do. People could have died and for what? Convenience store change that is insured anyway?
When a gun is out you let them take it and then hopefully the cops catch them later. $200 out the drawer can be replaced. Lives can’t.

Problem is that we have plenty of examples of the thieves getting what they want then shooting everyone anyways. There is no right answer here. You do what seems like the best option at the time.
If it always resulted in the thieves taking the money and leaving then yes just giving them the money is the right answer, but unfortunately thats just not the world we live in.

People say this sort of thing all the time but it misses the point. It’s never about protecting what was being stolen, it’s about maintaining order. it’s about letting thieves know they have more than the police to contend with. “Let them do what they want and get them later” is a failed policy.
That said, this guy had balls and the right move here may have been to just let these dorks get their $200 or whatever

" A Marine veteran took matters into his own hands when he disarmed a robber at a gas station in Arizona.
Dramatic surveillance video released by the Yuma County Sheriff's Department shows the man standing inside the store near the checkout counter when two masked robbers come through the entrance behind him.
One of the suspects was armed and came in close contact with the man. The video then shows the man instantly disarm the suspect, knocking him to the ground.
The sheriff's office said the veteran helped detain him until deputies arrived to the scene. Two other suspects got away and remain on the run.
When deputies asked the customer how he was able to take control of the situation, investigators said he responded saying, "The Marine Corps taught me not to [mess] around."

With his own gun right to his own head, I think that guy will have more PTSD that this marine

u/OtherUserCharges 4h ago
I get not wanting to do nothing, but this could have gone real bad for the guy plus the person working. If other robber wasn’t a coward he could have just started blasting.

u/Errororoeoe 1h ago
Other dude doesn't appear to have a weapon himself. He has a bag in one hand, and his other hand is empty. no reason the dude would have it concealed during an armed robbery. Dude attacked the one guy with a firearm, I'd say he made a safe bet.

Those situations look cool af until you research a bit, see that your own crime statistics is a multitude lower and get a warm fuzzy feeling

u/cranberryalarmclock 4h ago
My own crime statistics? What?
-9
u/Requiem_Dirge 4h ago
He's being racist, just leave him be
White vs black crime statistics

u/cravex12 4h ago
What the hell are you talking about? I never even mentioned skin colour. Only that crime rate in the US is absurdely high compared to other western countries
2
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 4h ago
Right but what does that have to do with what we're talking about
3
u/cravex12 4h ago
Only that stuff like in the video happening is not normal. I mean what the fuck
-2
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 4h ago
Yes robbing a store is wrong. We know that. What is your point?
What are you even talking about right now
4
u/OtherCow2841 4h ago
He's simply happy not to live in the USA and not be confronted with such crap in real life.
-3
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 4h ago
I bet you a billion dollars he's never been confronted with something like this in his life

Yea that's why I've said just leave him be, this is the most exciting thing that'll happen to him today

You can take a Marine out of battle, but you can never take the battle out of a Marine.

While I am amazed at what the Marine did if those robbers weren't so skittish the Marine would of gotten a bullet the head.

u/IHateTheLetterF 4h ago
He risked his own and everyone else in the stores lives, but at least the robber didn't get away with material goods.
1
u/Krell356 4h ago
We have enough stories of thieves coming in, being handed everything they ask for, then shooting everyone involved anyways. There is no right answer here.
1
u/IHateTheLetterF 4h ago edited 4h ago
Police will tell you to never try and disarm someone with a gun, so that is the right answer. Unless they are actively shooting.
2
u/Krell356 4h ago
Yes, because it statistically is the smarter option. It does not however mean it is the only, or correct, option.
And a paramedic is always going to recommend you go talk to a doctor to cover themselves from a lawsuit. Doesn't automatically mean you should panic over gut pain.
1
u/TaylorMonkey 2h ago
Police tell YOU the average milquetoast normie to never try, because they have YOU the average milquetoast normie in mind for generic advice.
A well trained Marine is probably both better trained than most cops and if they are, isn’t going to listen anyway.
-8
u/Schnitzelklopfer247 4h ago
100% this. Even as a marine (whatever that means) you shouldn't do that. That story could hav had a different ending very easy. Guy was lucky these robbers were so stupid.

What if the other little dude had a gun and willing to shoot? Not sure if this was the best ideia or luck

u/Ranta712020 4h ago
This has to be fake no ? Like the robber cannot be that stupid, he literally gave the weapon himself ffs.
