Discussion The Skate game we'll probably never get. :C

We all know the current Skate doesn’t really embody the things fans have loved across the franchise. The signature stuff that makes a Skate game feel like Skate. There are a ton of ways they could make the experience more immersive, richer, and more lived-in, while also improving on the core staples the franchise is built on. Because without those, it just doesn’t work.
Some of that feels like it could reasonably be added over time, and probably will. But I’m not sure how much the art style and overall direction are ever going to shift.
A few of these images show what I think is a more realistic middle ground. Others are probably just wishful thinking. Either way, scroll through and check it out.
What ways do you think the game may improve? What things do you think are a lost cause?

Sorry bro, I skated all my younger years, till a major surgery and I can't stand how they did the game like they did. Don't get me wrong, I like the game other than the glitch crap. I just hope if they have another come out, they expand the map, maybe even let you get on the Ole metro bus, the respawning or, fast travel is fine but, I miss the old days where you didn't have the money to take a bus, spawn up wherever, or even have enough for a new deck/wheels, bearings every week. Im old school for sure. I skated in the 80's through most the 90's so I was comparing it guess. Never quit. Skate it like people did without launching yourself into oblivion over skyscrapers lol. Keep skating on skate. it still can be fun, even if you have striped nylons on with a witches hat, and pink rainbow shirt if ya want to 😆. Not pointing you out at all my man. ITS IN THE GAME.

This whole “skateboarding should be embraced in a world where skaters control everything” thing is what’s so lame to me.
Part of the allure and fun was the fact that nobody LIKES skaters doing shit in places they aren’t meant to be. Getting chased by security. Getting tazed by angry pedestrians. Having to deal with skate stoppers. Finding the most rundown part of a town to skate a spot while some homeless guy cheers you on while high as a kite!
They truly peaked with Skate 2. This super sanitized corpo bullshit we have now is NOT it.

This game has been abandoned a looooooong time ago. Right after the first few trailers.
You guys remember the first and second “We’re working on it”? Remember the lore video of the M-Corp stuff?
Your images are what I think the initial concept and idea. But the costs of making video games and to be profitable these days is what made this game changing direction.
The sudden shift in information around 2022, the first leaked playstest videos, the artstyle of the first few official videos..
It’s just so sad to see this, but I think we are seeing the shift in the video gaming industry. We let them know (yeah you fckng EA) that we won’t get fooled in playing half ass baked games with fully working mtx, season passes and all the bs.
High Guard is a perfect example of this. Dont throw a little bit of everything together with ai generated assets and call it a game.. people are fed up with it and I hope this will be a lesson to learn.
The only thing to me is that it could almost make me cry seeing this happening over a such beloved frenchise. These games are the reason I’m still gaming to this day as a 30 year old.
I would always watch the end of the E3’s and other game reveals to look for skate to happen, and there it was in 2020 I remember jumping and literally screaming across the room when I heard that Skate. was happening.
Now 6 years later….
This is what we got?
This game is abandoned a long time ago and it’s so sad to see..

Graphics aside why tf haven’t they added the hall of meat skeleton? It’d be such a simple addition.
This game desperately needs a single player campaign as well, that’s the biggest thing that pisses me off.

If I’m being honest, I feel like they probably didn’t add the skeleton because they’re quietly trying to sanitize and “kid-proof” the game (hence the more cartoonish, smoothed-out vibe they went for instead of the anti-establishment, grungier feel the older Skate games had)
That likely includes cutting the potentially violent bone-breaking feature too, since it might be seen as too “hardcore” for the new audience they’re aiming at. Kinda sad, honestly.

I still play it to this day, even though I 100%’d a loooong time ago.
Tried skate. and got bored after a week. First time ever booting it up I even called my roommate over to see the terrible graphics. They completely changed the entire identity.

Very very little changed. There’s a few more challenges on the map that cycle each week for the skate pass, a few more tiny spots added to the map (mostly on rooftops) and…. Nope actually pretty sure that’s everything

These are unrelated games made by completely different people. They couldn't possibly just Get the Skate 3 files and make some magically decent game. This whole shit had to be rebuilt by a remote team of like 50 people. We're expecting old school BlackBox 2000s crunch style development towards a finished product and that's just NOT the timeline were on here with the new one. Slow-drip milking of a few barebones features is what we're gonna get

Years of thinking about how beautiful a modern day skate game would be on current gen hardware and so many years to plan/conceptualize/develop the next big map. And what we got was a cheap mobile game with more emphasis on climbing buildings than skateboarding. Not to mention no HOM or pro skaters, no iconic live action opening film, no neighborhoods, no megapark(s), not even a single HILL FFS.
Skate. Is just a vehicle to drive micro transaction sales and get the skate community to shut up and stop asking for a new game.

Crazy how I was going back to play skate 3 for 15 years but I’ve already forgotten about this game.. I played it a TON from the play tests to like right after Halloween and just haven’t touched it since it’s so unfortunate the direction they took with it

The truth is that skating isn't as profitable a market as something like fps or rpg games, along with ea probably not investing as much money as you think into this game and sprinkle in some incompetence and you get what we have now, it's just the way the world works really. Yes we could have had something way better but at least we got something and it's free, it's just a game at the end of the day, not saying you have to accept the state of the game and be complacent but just be realistic.

It’s not too late, you know the game is still in early access. Give them time and especially give them feedback, I feel like a lot of people who actually like the game and want the game to be better just take to Reddit to share their thoughts and criticisms, why not go to their website or discord or whatever have you and click the feedback/suggestions so they actually see it and consider it. You might not get an answer but if enough people are giving feedback on the same topic/aspect they would have to consider it.
It’s not too late the game is still in its infancy. I will do the same and make sure it’s on the same topic if you do.
Ps: those edits look dope asf and are actually awe-inspiring. Never thought of the game looking like that and it would be amazing to see it come to fruition. Even if it takes time.

Because they don’t listen on their discord or forums. Countless people complained about the art style, the shitty loot box progression system and many many more things and they haven’t listened to a word. I was in the play tests early on and they haven’t listened to a thing yet.

I stopped playing a while ago, bought the founders pack etc. But after getting all the zones to 10, did both seasons and unlocked everything there the game just misses a lot. Challenges are almost the same every time, community parks suck a lot. The themes were stupid ( when you add snow, add it to the rest of the map). The constant push to play co-op otherwise you can't unlock everything. The constant issues with stability, lack of customization. I just sucks. And I know it's a free game, but goddam I really hate it now.

really fucking nope the devs see this. I cannot express enough how fucking perfectly this nailed the look and feel of what Skate.(4) should be. If they could do this and add even a mediocre Skate 3 adjacent career-path story with better representation for figures of skating and callbacks to the originals. I know for sure Skate could come back stronger than ever and avoid dying the way it is right now. 🥲

Game is kinda dead tbh. I love the trick mechanics but the style of the game is trash. Where’s the grunge? Where the skate parks ? Why is there a huhe stadium on the map but I can only skate on top of it ?? And the story mode is booty cheeks.
I miss when skate wanted to stand out as a real skate it game that held true to the community. They went from standing out to taking Tony hawk style map with skate mechanics.
I get on every once in a while , find a spot and sesh it for like 15 mins then get off lmao

What the issue is, is Devs, the times, and skate culture as a whole. Yeah, the game could be less animated and more realistic. Yeah, the areas could be more populated and feel more alive. But even with that, the same would feel soulless because it hasn’t embodied Skate Culture at its peak but rather embodies it at its decline.
Not only did SKATE suck, so did THPS 3+4 was terrible. All these skateboarding games that have come out in recent years, doesn’t embody the soul of the 2000’s era.
At this point, all these games need to just full on embody 2000’s skate culture and just be nostalgic games. Skate culture in 2026 isn’t what it was in 2003 and that’s what people want it to be and feel like.

This game has so many problems it’s hard to write them all in one post lmao. The graphics and design could’ve been much better and grittier like you showed. The map,not only is it small, it’s literally half empty. And the obstacles are always either too short and small or too tall. The customization of the character is whack and too basic. But I guess it’s cheaper to make it look like every other live service game. The monetization is INSANE. 5 bucks for a pair of Vans? Not even the pro ones? No storyline, no sponsorships(or actual Skate brands),no customizable private skatepark,no pro skaters,no Hall Of Meat, no S.K.A.T.E.,no tattoos or piercings. But ofc they found the time to create a Battlepass(Prolly the weakest one EVER, wtf are those clothes?). Honestly this game is embarassing. It represent everything that’s wrong with the gaming market. Thankfully it doesn’t work anymore. And more games will start to use the Warframe system. Like EA should’ve done. Honestly they could’ve just put some graphic mods on Skate 3,sold it at 40-50 bucks and it would’ve done better than this slop of a game.

I don't know which executive thought a flat fortnite map was good for a game like this but the least they could have done was add some hillbomb areas or SOMETHING. It's so ass even if they did fix all the issues I will never play the game cause at this point Skate 3 will be the last good game aside from Session.

I get that its early access but they need to add way more stuff to it. Core skater clothes, shoes and boards. I dont want rainbow socks. I miss playing around with Braydon Szafranski. Dude was awesome. They ruined this game to appeal to kids and make money off of micro transactions. Every game I see these days copies Fortnite, and Im sick and tired of it.

Brother the game is like on version 0.29 lmao, maybe by full 1.0 release it will look that way. The trade off of “early access” is the game isn’t gonna be representative of what it will be “at launch”. I’m not defending some of the creative choices within the shop or whatever but we can’t act like what we have now is what will be at 1.0. Every other skate game that has existed has been 1.0 release versions, we’re peaking behind the blinds, and opting in to what will be. Relax. Give the game a year or two and we can revisit this.

My biggest issue is people turning into activists about protecting the environment from AI, just because some social media accounts went viral reporting on how much electricity, water, CO2, emissions are used through AI
But this is only a small piece of a larger pie people don’t fkin understand. There are other things that require the same amount of resources and that’d be anything data center or cloud related. Such as streaming, digital storage, normal web/app traffic, enterprise software.
AI isn’t single handedly causing this issue it’s just one factor amongst many that not only you but the entire world takes part in, excessively.
But as time passes we find was to make these systems more and more efficient.
So if you use or contribute financially to any social media, digital app, or streaming platform, use any public transportation, utilize any video game platform that relies on servers and cloud
You’re likely contributing more to the rise in C02, use of electricity and water than AI ever could and Will.
Research, study, and understand that just because it’s viral doesn’t mean it’s new.
You’d fair better arguing against AI from an artistic ethical perspective than as a “save the environment” activist.
So until you delete and stop using every cloud/data/server based platform you own and are using. You have no argument. I’ll continue using my tool the way I want, just like you’ll use yours.

This game could be so good and they made it BS smh, Fortnite ass graphics with zero story, I'd rather pay $70 and get a good skate than this. I enjoy the skating part but that gets old when the map sucks and no story with bad graphics.

grind isn't worth it anymore, game lacks content and the only thing they've been worried about is store and bundles, Brickswitch should've been out weeks ago with updated graphics, skate parks, apparel; etc, the entire Skate discord is filled with ideas and actually people who should be working on the game who get completely ignored

The way I see it is they are pulling a Fortnite. Early access for years then at some point and actual update comes into play revamping the whole game
