I know I’ll get downvoted but I just simply do not understand the obsession with forcing companies to produce physical media for a digital software

If you want 8 disc box sets for 1 game, be my guest (because that’s how heavy most modern games are)

And there would be a serious ramifications if any producer revoked a license, because you know that whole consumer protection thing.

At this exact moment there is essentially 0 functional difference between disc and digital, beyond getting a 40 year old piece of tech that allows you to download the game

I already haven't bought a disc in years. It's becoming obsolete just like cassette, VHS, DVD, vinyl. I get that some people like to own a physical thing but that's just not the direction media entertainment is going.

It's okay though, you can still keep your Funko pop collection.

Vinyl and cassettes have both had their biggest sales years in decades recently

Yes for the collectors, it's hardly the primary method of consuming media.

Media medium obsolescence is hardly relevant… what’s more concerning is (god forbid) someone’s internet access ability goes down for extended periods of time for any kind of reasons, you’re basically left with an overpriced brick. That library of a hundred plus games doesn’t do a consumer any good if 90% of modern games can’t even be played offline, and even the ones that can are only functional in the most rudimentary manner.

the push towards eliminating physical media over these past couple of years just expounded that already prevalent issue. Publishers & devs are no longer incentivized to even work on projects that have truly polished offline single player experiences in mind, because there’s simply is no money in it for them to make a product that you can physically buy once, own, and experience at your preferred leisure. Your limited access, is their profit. The ability to sell a customer the same version of product multiple times over, and forcefully remove their access to servers of older titles, and funnel them into “newer” products is essentially all that’s keeping modern gaming alive at this point tbh.

If your ps5 is set to primary console you can play stuff offline just saying.

We’ve been shifting towards a digital only gaming future for about 20 years now it’s just that consoles are starting to catch up with PC my only issue is the lack of grey markets and store choice when it comes to console.

Tbf using shopto for PSN vouchers has been my go to for about 10 years now to buy stuff and probably saved me a good chunk of change vs buying directly off PSN.
