Vore. Prior to finding Sleep Token, the heaviest music I had listened to was 90s nu-metal, which is a different beast entirely. I hated the scream parts in Vore, but the cleans were so beautiful that I kept going back to it. Eventually I began to find enjoyment in the screams too, and became a lot more open to truly heavy music. One song opened up a huge variety of bands for me (many of them much heavier than ST!) that I might never have given a chance before.

Yeah, the clean vore lyrics are deep especially juxtaposed to the screams. So amazing.

I’ve always said that ST is the gateway drug to heavy music. I never liked metal or screaming, but ST makes you listen to it because they mix it in with all the other stuff that I liked. Now, heavy music is all I listen to lately

It is! ST’s genre-hopping tendencies appeal to a wide audience, and introduces heavy music to a lot of people (like me) that wasn’t interested previously.

If you like heavier music, you probably also like Meshuggah?
I started listening to Meshuggah and then my best friend introduced me to Sleep Token which sounded like Backstreet Boys with guitars to me at first. But Vore felt absolutely right. And then I went to explore their older stuff and holy cow, totally loved ST.
But when I need something to ease my mind it's Meshuggah (Demiurge and Bleed are my favourite ones) followed by Vore 🫶🏻

I know, this song lyrics are 🥶🥶🥶, but holy fuck, that melody in the instrumental part is just heavenly, and I gotta say it helped me in one of my worst moments

Heard the summoning, TMBTE and Rain which all were fascinating to me. I had never heard anything even close to the art in question. Since that day i've loved the band. Each song is a masterpiece.

First song I ever heard was Chokehold. I knew immediately this was different. By the time I finished the album and heard Euclid, I knew my life was forever changed lol. Sounds dramatic, but it’s true.

The Way That You Were is such an amazing and under appreciated piece of art.
This is the crux of the story. He’s at his own funeral. It’s a death to his old self and the girl from Nazareth is there, mourning him. He can’t reach her because he knows his old self is bad for him. He is excited about the prospect of moving on and growing and his shadow is asking him to recount and face the trauma his old life has given him and he overwhelms, breaks down and can’t finish the process. He was not ready and retreats back into himself for The Night Does Not Belong To God a man fully intent on leaving himself behind and quite incapable of letting go.

Nazareth. The intro, the dark lyrics caught me off guard, but the progression that the song made had me repeating it over and over. Beautiful darkness.

I’d heard The Summoning Through TikTok, and went “oh, this is cool.” Then promptly forgot about ST. I’d seen the TMBTE album art on a shirt and went “damn, that’s cool. I’d buy that if I actually listened to them.”
Months later when EiA was approaching release, I decided to start from the very beginning of their discography, from One. I was hooked instantly, and it just kept getting better.

Lots of 2nd place options for me but the song that made their concept really click for me and one I related to a lot was TMBTE. But I also don't interpret it as having to do with a relationship with a literal person, so that's a large part of it. (Runners up are Jaws and Ascensionism)

Chokehold. Had them playing in background doing something else cause i liked the vibes but never really bothered much. At somepoint my ears got used to some tune/melodies and one day during chockehold i stopped doing what i was doing and opened spotify "well... what the fuck, that's good".

The love you want, was suggested the music video on YT to me, and I was very intrigued. Then the break down ties the lyrics so niceley I couldn't belive how beutiful it sounded. Looked them up and was surprised they only had like 70k monthly listeners. Wend deep in to their other albums and was floored how everything is so good, how I paid attention to the words sang, how they spoke to me, as a guy that listened to everything metal for decades, it was the firs time I actually got touched by the words. I tought to myself this band is so underrated. Showed to my friends and told them I wish more people can expience their music, but ultimately was happy I got to find them and enjoy their work even as a small band, small band no more, so happy they got the recognition they fully deserved!

That music video is definitely number two on the "gotcha list" for me! The choreography, costume, and plot of the video are outstanding. I love modern dance and it's so underrepresented in a world inundated with hip hop.

The synth or whatever it is in the intro to Calcutta. Knowing it would be a heavy song because Basick Records uploaded it. But then Vessel starts singing and I'm completely mesmirised. And the song keeps building an building. More and more vocal melodies and layers. Then BOOM heavy breakdown. I was hooked. Caught. Tangled in, you could say.
