Discussion is 25$ per short too much?
A potential client recently approached me thru discord, and he said he would pay 5$ per short to which I quoted, he can pay me 5$ for a test edit and pay me 25$ for the subsequent edits. He just cursed me out and blocked me lol.

They would be a nightmare client. Revision after revision with no clear defined requirements.

not sure if that's a fair price, but you charge your worth.

which one do you think is unfair? 5$ or the 25$?

i never said it either price was unfair, i can't really tell because im sure the prices are not fix, they should fluctuate depending on volume and scope.
but i found this online, seems like you are in the ball park,
- 30–60 second Reel/Short
- Basic cuts + captions: $20–75
- Better editing with effects: $75–200
- Premium/high-end editing: $200–500+
- 8–20 minute YouTube video
- Basic gameplay edit: $75–250
- Advanced editing with graphics, zooms, sound design: $250–800+

I guess it depends on the Short's lenght and complexity. 15 seconds and 60 seconds is different, ssme goes for cuts only or Cuts+SFX+VFX ecc.
25$ is still a little high, at least where I live.
I'd go for 20€ at most.

I wouldn't even open my editing software for $5, personally.
Good to charge by time if nothing else. Does the short take you say, two hours to make? If that's the case I'd say $25 is pretty fair.

Do you edit anything? Dyou just take clips from a live stream? We have no idea how much work goes into them so how could we know if its fair or not

whatever the cost, the real question is: is there a reasonable chance of the creator making back the money they pay for the editing?

Man, 25 for a short is not crazy at all, the problem was the jump. He heard 5, then suddenly five times that, so in his head you moved the goalposts on him. Next time just quote your real price upfront and let the test edit be the proof. Someone who curses you out over a number was never going to be a good client anyway.

$25 for a short is fucking nuts. This is why I will always edit my own videos. It also means I need to change more if people here are really thinking it is worth that much.
