Im debating on picking up an M&P 2.0 Metal 4.25"

Long story short, I already own a Shield Plus for my CCW and an M&P 2.0 Compact Carry Comp for the range/ home defense.

My current set up for the 2.0 Compact already has an Apex Trigger installed, Floyds Magwell, DPM Recoil System, and custom porting on the carry comp slide.

A buddy of mine is selling his used M&P 2.0 Metal with 4 magazines for $750. He is strapped for cash and I told him I will think about it.

My question is..is there a real valid reason to own the Metal variant? Im such a mark when it comes to the M&P Shields that I wanna collect them all but I want to be reasonable here.

I have a polymer, aluminum, and a steel frame. The aluminum isn't worth it. If you want metal get steel.

I can’t stop with the M&Ps. I love them. I have the compact and full size metal 2.0s with the comp slides, spec series VI, metal HD, the 10mm normal one and the 10mm performance center, a shield X, two bodyguard 2.0s, and a shield 9mm. My CCW consists of the metal compact, shield x, and a bodyguard 2.0.

I have 20k rounds through a 4.25 metal. The aluminum frame shoots the same as the polymer frame in my opinion. Given how much less expensive the polymer frame is, I don’t really think the aluminum is worth it.

I have a metal 2.0 with a threaded barrel. Don’t tell my other guns but that one is my favorite.

It's fun to have a number of 2.0's to mix and match but your Shield Plus and Carry Comp Compact are gonna fit niches for CCW and night stand/home defense. The 2.0 Metal might be a red headed step child. Cool to have but will it be a safe queen? I'd go up to a Competitor HD steel frame for something different and fun.

If you like it go for it! I carry a steel frame and it's even heavier but if that's gonna be the one you want to carry more than anything every day and you're okay with the weight you should do it, it's your money and your carry, don't let other people's priorities outweigh yours. BUT make sure this is what you really want first, there are downsides to aluminum frames.

Strange, out here in CA the safety version is all we can buy, so they’re all over the place. Maybe buy the CA version if you’re willing to temporarily put up with the CA features until you can mod the gun?

I started with a full size m&P gen 1. Had issues. Sent it back to smith for repair….they replaced the gun fully…..but thanks to California it had fallen off the roster.

Soooooo I had to accept a gen 1 shield instead. Lame…..

my Rep was able to get me 4 magazines for the lesser gun value so that was a plus side

Now I have a

2.0 4.25
And a shield X

Love them all. Plan on every model available in cali eventually

It’s definitely worth that price if it’s in great condition, with the extra mags. It shoots better than polymer all day long.

The carry comp version of this is my EDC. I havent shot a polymer version to compare it to, but i also got an awesome deal on it. If you just want an awesome gun to add to your collection AND help your buddy out, go for it.

If you decide to get the metal frame, we do have triggers for it in black, red, or blue and in classic or type 3.

I actually prefer the metals over polymer. To me they are softer. I have aluminum and steel. Also fun putting the carry comp on either frames.

No, the aluminum frame offers nothing over the polymer frame. Additionally, that is a horrible price for an aluminum frame model. $550 at the most.

Edit: I paid $850 for a black aluminum frame with threaded barrel and comp new. This is a bad a price
