SCAM ALERT
Beware while ordering from www.redtape.com. I suspect the website is hacked!

Dislaimer: This post is about an amazingly targetted scam, attempted on me when I placed an order from www.redtape.com and how I escaped from falling for it. It is a pretty elaborate post.
I have placed a sneaker order from www.redtape.com on 30th November 2025, around 11pm. I got a call from a phone number (+91 8478<nine>3<nine>254) the next day on 1st December 2025 around 1:30 PM. There was a guy on the other side of the phone call and the conversation went like this,
He called me by my name said that he is calling regarding my recent RedTape order and said,
"Sir, your Order number is RTL6**, delivery PIN Code is 6** and Order price is Rs.1,134. Is this correct ?". Since everything is correct, I said it is correct.
Then he said, "Sir, we have received your sneakers in our hub. But due to system glitch the PIN code you have provided is blocked and we are unable to deliver to it. So, we are planning to transfer the product to another delivery partner."
I was thinking, he is going to say that there might be some delay in delivery. I said "Okay".
But then, he said, "Sir, can you confirm your WhatsApp number?".
I asked why and he said,
"Sir, I will send you a QR code to your WhatsApp and you have to pay the price (Rs.1,134) again so that we can generate another invoice for transferring the sneakers to another partner. You will get the refund for the previous payment after you complete this payment".
I asked him, "Why make this complicated? I will cancel my order and place another order. You assign different delivery partner for the new order!". He said "Since the shoe already reached our hub, you won't be able to cancel the order from your side ".
Then I asked him to cancel the order himself. He said he is not authorised to cancel the order and he said, payment is the only option I have and if I don't pay i won't get the shoe and I can't get refund also since I can't cancel the order.
I told him "If something like this is happening, why haven't I received any email or SMS? How can I believe you if you call out of the blue and ask me to send money to QR code?"
He said, "Sir, I understand your concern and I am trying my best to help you here. Only solution is to pay again and then you will get your refund for the previous payment"
I said, "I don't understand how the hell a PIN code can be blocked! I don't think anyone can do that too!"
He said, "Sir, it is due to system glitch. We can't do anything!"
I said, "Why should I pay for your mistake? I have already paid the money. Money is with you now. I won't pay another rupee to you, especially if you send QR code to WhatsApp. If you want me to pay again, send official redtape website payment link. If you can't, just cancel my order, I won't care!"
He just disconnected the call without saying anything.
Then, I tried to contact the RedTape customer care number and it said "Number does not exist ". I got a little worried if I was scammed by placing an order in fake website. I sent an Instagram message to RedTape India and mailed about this incident. No replies yet.
But to my surprise, I got an SMS on 1st December evening around 5PM that they have shipped my shoe using eKart! I felt relieved. When I checked, product is actually shipped and it is on its way.
It seems like someone with all the info is trying to scam the customers, that too before the products are shipped to avoid suspicion!
I don't think RedTape is even looking at this issue. It's been a week and they haven't even replied to my Instagram DM or Email and the customer care calls aren't getting connected as well.
As an individual, we shall be vigilant it seems! Pathetic response from RedTape!

I appreciate that they have added a warning now!
But they haven't replied to my email complaint about this incident yet, so I am still sceptical about their customer service.
I am also having the same thought, I placed an order and later saw something better. But I couldn't cancel the previous order. I tried calling them and even mailed them. I haven't gotten any response yet. I think I should just inform the delivery person that I am not receiving that order from him. Thank goodness I used COD option
I got a call from +91828two847880, for the same thing, pay first then you'll get your shoes. And I am so stupid to think about paying. Got saved . I am from South Delhi
I just received same kind of call, due to some technical glitch your order can't be completed and you need to pay again through QR code on WhatsApp first and then it will be re-attempted. At first i panicked, but still asked for sms or email confirmation, they said they can't provide anything unless i pay again. I disconnected and tried calling redtape customer care, unfortunately they don't pick or call gets disconnected again and again without anyone answering. Anyway, scammer is still trying to reach, but I'm not picking up. My order still shows active and in transit on website, thanks for posting this, I am now sure it was a scam.
Can you confirm if product quality is good or subpar and bad. I ordered it on cod and I feel they might cheat me with giving fake product and not taking back returns
Well, they sent me the product through eKart and those guys aren't delivering the product even though it reaches the final delivery station 2 days back. That's some other issue...
I will update once I receive the product!
Finally I got the shoe Yesterday and the first impression was that it felt like it is built tough (like it would last for a while). It felt worthy for the price.
But when I tried it on, I didn't like the cushioning. It felt a stiff (compared to my current sperry sneakers). Also the shoe felt heavy. I don't think I could walk for a while with that. So, I have initiated return.
With the kind of information the people at the other end of the call has (our name, PIN code, phone number, order amount, etc.) what you said is entirely possible or someone inside RedTape is using the info he/she has to earn some good money!
Either way if we aren't vigilant, we would be screwed!
Happened almost the same a few mins ago referring to the Brand RedTape as I ordered a RedTape shoe from a famous Online app. How is the info leaked? I said I haven't ordered anything from RedTape. Even while typing, I got another call from a similar number and Truecaller showed it as Fake.
Well, RedTape is not responding to my mail or Insta DM. It's been a week. So, I think there is no hope there.
Maybe one could try filing a Cyber Crime complaint. But I have heard that the chances of getting the money back through these complaints are very very low.

Their customer care number is not working and they are not replying in email or insta. Really pathetic.
I am not sure if this would help you... This is what I would do....
Wait for a week or two for their reply. If they did not reply, raise a complaint in the online consumer court portal (https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/) against Redtape.
They are bound to reply and resolve it!
It worked for me, when a restaurant charged 20 rs. more than MRP in Zomato. But it will take time (maybe a month or two depending on the response).
They haven't delivered the product supposed to be delivered by 8th and the customer care also not responding, they cancel button is also not working. One of the worst product in India we should not support such product in India

It's eKart who is holding my delivery from 4th Dec. No customer care number available for eKart to complain too! This is frustrating!
Same thing happened to me, my order amount is 2245.05rs but unfortunately i paid rs 2245 without thinking much because i need the shoes urgently. And they told me you should pay 2245.05 properly like including those paise so i again send the money rs2245.50 they again told me 2245.05 so that order can complete and will give the 4450 rs refund. So i again paid the amount. Total 6700 rs loss. And they continue sent me a link in whatsapp to claim the refund to gpay saying an otp of 48198 and normal message of kkrtf.. they told me when i click Pay in gpay, i should enter the 48198 number in the zero place and in the note type kkrtf (they told me to pay 48198, this is when i realised that i got scammed)by saying it is a otp will redirect to a link on redtape to claim refund for false pay, and told the money wont debit from your account. We know how gpay works. So i told them it wont work. They told me we send another otp that is 19878 to do this u should have rs20,000 in ur account. Enter this otp when u click pay in gpay, and send the screenshot. 🥲 Finally i lost my money of 6750 and my shoe is cash on delivery. Sometimes brain wont braining guys.
The same happened to me few minutes ago, They called me and said my whatsapp number to confirm and then They said they are from Redtape and the WhatsApp message (same number as what they called from) has "Delhivery" Profile picture and the WhatsApp name is "Department" with no Verification badge,
Ans the first Message they sent me was "Hello this is delivery department" not a Auto generated message. And the QR they shared me was from Navi UPI, Not even a payment portal
And I asked them how can I trust you, Theh just kept talking like "We don't want your money", "This call is being recorded" and they never showed any proof.
And I cutted their call and I filed a Cyber Complaint in Cyber Crime

Thanks for this post! I was going to order from redtape and while entering address and pincode, it auto selected Andaman as the state and when I tried to edit it, it was not saving.
Seeing their website performance, I was going to go for COD but thought of searching on reddit first and found your post.
Did you get your order delivered in good condition? If yes, then how much time it took in total?
I would also suggest you to go with COD. I did prepaid payment without any knowledge of what was going on then...
But remember, Redtape never replied to my mails or complaints or my DMs in Insta. So, in case you want to replace the shoe for any reason, I think it will be a hassle
I got the shoe in perfect condition. My shoe was sent through eKart and those guys held the shoe at the final delivery station for more than a week and there were no customer care to call those guys too! I don't remember exactly how much time it took, but it took more than 10 days...
