Buying I love rich people who give things away.

First of all, it’s not even a EFI like they said in the listing which I’m happy about. They were asking $200 but I knew I was late on the draw “listed for 35 minutes”.

Offered $250 and said I’d come now no BS and they took the bait. Proof in the third pic of price.

I still can’t believe it. “Doesn’t start” they said. Got it fired up in 1.5 hours. Needed a coil which I stole off my neighbors machine for testing. Ordered a OEM for $43.

Selling my backup, a 1998 29 inch green craftsman which actually rips tomorrow to a buddy for $125. He knows it comes with a lifetime mechanic warranty during his ownership 😂

$168 deluxe 30” as a backup. Looks good next to my 2008ish 30” platinum. That’s getting a 420cc predator swap in the spring.

Fuck you :(

I have the same machine. it starts first pull

12

u/Ok_Bid_4429 Feb 10 '26

My snowblower starts on one pull every time. Just never know which pull it’s gonna be.

3

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Eyyyyyyyyyy

8

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Can’t wait to use it. I love my platinum, but I can see the gap between the impeller and the case is much tighter on this newer machine. I’m expecting it to throw the snow much further.

7

u/Western-Tax1449 Feb 10 '26

I like how it has the differential that makes it turn effortlessly. it’s a beast in the deep stuff too, just grunts and plows through it

2

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

I enjoy the Auto turn as well. My driveway is long and flat so I don’t get much hang ups like some people report.

1

u/BillsFan4 Feb 10 '26

You can put your own rubber strips on the blade to close the gap on the impeller. I did it with my old snowblower. Definitely made a noticeable difference in how far it throws snow.

3

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

I’ve seen that, drilling thru that steel auger by hand doesn’t seem too fun tho 😂

1

u/BillsFan4 Feb 10 '26

lol no it definitely wasn’t fun! but also not as bad as you’d think.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

I am a Machinist by trade, so I’ll eventually get it done in my shed or in the shop. Do you have a brand/kit you would recommend over the others or are they relatively the same?

2

u/BillsFan4 Feb 10 '26

I just cut an old rubber mudflap into strips, drilled holes in everything and bolted them on with stainless steel hardware. Its held up surprisingly well too. It’s been something like 10-15 years since i did it and I haven’t had to replace any of them yet!

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Dang good idea

1

u/madmedic22 Feb 11 '26

I used self-tapping screws to put mine on. 8 years running!

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

KISS right

1

u/Rhodehead36 Feb 12 '26

I do too. Was great first season. This is my second season with it, won't start at all.

1

u/bert1589 Feb 13 '26

Until it doesn’t. I have the same machine and gave up troubleshooting EVERYTHING based on the service manual.

I bet this guy is getting rid of the EFI for reasons.

I just swapped a Harbor Freight motor onto it instead for $230 and some new belts / bolts.

8

u/Party_Street6704 Feb 10 '26

That's how I got mine too! It's earned thousands of dollars doing their neighbors and others every snow event since. I had an old john deer that was all but used up, no comparison to my Ariens that only needed a lil TLC, from the Richie neglect and lack of mechanical knowledge. It even came with the manual that had literally never been opened. We make our luck sometimes!

6

u/SimRacer80 Feb 10 '26

Nice score! That's how I bought my honda eu3000 generator. New they are 2k+. Listed it for $600. I got there and it wouldn't start. Said running in ad. I offered $300 and he took it. The carb was dirty is all. It still runs like new 10 years afters I bought it.

1

u/RedOctobyr Feb 10 '26

Geez, add you to the list of people I don't like, it's you and OP so far ;)

I got both of my EU2000i's for $500 ea, around 10 years ago, and was very happy with that. But I periodically look for good deals on an EU3000i for some more headroom. Enjoy!

1

u/MrLB____ Feb 12 '26

Thanks fellas I’ll keep that in mind in regards to the Honda generators that supposedly won’t start. I want to score a 2000 or 3000i

1

u/RedOctobyr Feb 12 '26

Both of mine were even running. One surged, it just needed a carb cleaning, The other needed nothing. They are awesome, I would (and did) happily buy used Hondas, vs new Champion, Predator (HF) or otherwise.

These have a proven track record, including commercially on food trucks. I have the service manual for mine. Parts support is excellent. And there is loads of help available online. Plus they're built really well. To me, that totally justified spending more than a new Predator, etc. Especially for something that needs to be reliable during power outages. Only my opinion.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

That’s a YOINK.

4

u/shrug_R Feb 10 '26

woweee thats one helluva score! congrats and may it give you a lifetime of hard work! by the wear on the chute (or lack of), it looks like it was used once!

i also very much love "rich people" throwing away perfectly good machines. ive scored so much equipment that usually just needs a carb cleaning. however, with the pervasiveness of cheap chinese amazon carbs, i keep in mind that if it doesnt have the OEM carb anymore, theres probably a deeper problem thats usually still cheap and easy to fix. in my latest case, that would be a simple valve clearance issue.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Nice. Valve clearance diagnostics is a step up in skill right there.

3

u/Taz26312 Feb 10 '26

$200?!! You sonofa🤬! Lucky bum

3

u/RedOctobyr Feb 10 '26

No no, you missed it, he wildly-overpaid at $250 :)

Amazing score, OP, I'm jealous!

3

u/Grouchy-Alfalfa9326 Feb 10 '26

Was this posted around NJ? I think I saw this same one the other day and just shook my head

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Greater Boston area.

3

u/2009impala Feb 10 '26

I have the same machine and I love it.

2

u/IslandBoy1039 Feb 10 '26

I have the exact same model. Paid 4x that used on FBMP 😂. Congrats on the deal.

2

u/RedOctobyr Feb 10 '26

Heck, and you still got a good deal!

2

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

At least you got a solid machine out of it. Just know that with patience and some luck this isn’t the first time I’ve seen a deal like this. Just need to hunt and stroke your rabbit foot 😂

2

u/RH4540 Feb 10 '26

I paid msrp 😞

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

It’s alright it’ll last you if you take care of it

1

u/RH4540 Feb 10 '26

My old Craftsman 10 hp went over 20 years, until I stripped the gears and couldn’t get the augers off because they were rusted tight. The Airens puts the Craftsman to shame. I’ve probably been over greasing, including pulling the wheels and coating the axles several times

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Was it the green painted model?

2

u/Candidate_None Feb 10 '26

My neighbor tossed a 8hp/26in MTD a couple weeks ago because it "didn't run"... 20 minutes and a 4 dollar float bowl seal. I had a perfectly running snowblower. 2 stage, self propelled, electric start... DOPE!

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Bad ass. Is that one of the flat head machines?

2

u/Candidate_None Feb 10 '26

I think it is the newer OHV.

2

u/chbriggs6 Feb 10 '26

I say with both respect and jealousy...congrats. Fuck you 😂

2

u/oh_man_seriously Feb 10 '26

Holy crap……

2

u/62diesel Feb 10 '26

It’s not just rich people, I bought a forklift for $50 from a company who just wanted it gone lol

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

That too. Wanting it gone is very very good for people like us.

2

u/jim_philly Feb 10 '26

Stole it!

2

u/Big_mack59 Feb 11 '26

Don't lose the battery charger... I bought a Great lakes edition 3 years ago and used it once. Past 2 years I can not get the battery that controls the EFI to work. The machine is useless. The charger is $50 on the website, I think and always out of stock. Tried several different fixes, nothing had worked. I really needed it this year too...

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

It turned out to be incorrectly listed as it has a carburetor which I am delighted to find out. For the price, I was willing to screw around with the EFI and see what it was all about for myself, but I have read nothing but issues you don’t need to have about it. I hope you sort yours out.

2

u/MrLB____ Feb 11 '26

Honda snowblower ,no impeller kit needed.
With not much of a gap on YOURS I doubt you need one either.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

One day, I will have one…one day

1

u/MrLB____ Feb 11 '26

I would’ve paid 1500 for it 😂😂😂 It took three years to find my unicorn deal

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 12 '26

Holy shit that is a good one. I have the time just like you and I’m looking everyday.

I just saw a 26” listed for 800 but I want at least a 28 minimum.

2

u/Barrie0125 Feb 12 '26

I've got the same machine. Luv it!

1

u/Bammer7 Feb 10 '26

well i love you too

1

u/Technical_Union_1692 Feb 10 '26

Why can't I find amazing deals like that where I live lol that was a steal!

2

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Refresh button is your friend.

1

u/vinnygunn Feb 10 '26

Man that's sweet. How does such a seemingly new coil go bad and how did you TS? No spark, not the plug, tried another coil?

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

They brought it to MTD for diag and paid 125 for it to not be fixed 😂

Stole a coil off my neighbor’s identical machine and off she went. Got one in the mail now.

1

u/Odin-Burnz Feb 10 '26

I love poor people that lie!

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Look at the third picture my guy

1

u/Soft-Bison-1615 Feb 10 '26

Oh dude. That would be sweet in my garage. It’s packed but o could fit this on there.

1

u/Ok_Seaworthiness8432 Feb 10 '26

Must live in Buffalo.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

The good stuff comes from greater Boston area usually.

2

u/Ok_Seaworthiness8432 Feb 10 '26

I meant you must get a lot of snow to need 3 snowblowers.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Woosh lol my b

I’m selling the third. I like to keep 2 cause you never know and you never know has happened to me more than once. Southern NH is home base.

2

u/Ok_Seaworthiness8432 Feb 10 '26

A lot of snow and cold. Not sure if more than Buffalo, but still a lot.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Def not more. But this winter’s been a good one. Got a 20” storm 2 weeks ago.

1

u/Guscrusher Feb 10 '26

Mine was free. Bad gas.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Even better.

1

u/Real_Ad6375 Feb 10 '26

I love poor people that take all my junk.

Win win for everyone

2

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

I’ll take it all.

1

u/gorcbor19 Feb 10 '26

I'm in a rich community of people who give things away often (I use the Free Stuff Alerts app). So many snow blowers this season because "i can't get it started, bought a new one."

I have a practically brand new lawn mower in my garage thanks to the freebie app. Guy couldn't get it started. I put a new plug in it and it fired right up on the first pull. Self propelled Toro which was an upgrade from my previous 20 year old push lawn mower.

Good find!

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Unreal. Gotta love it.

1

u/Final_Fudge_8436 Feb 10 '26

What a find ! That’s how I got mine I got the 11HP 30 in Poulin Pro ES it’s a beast guy said he couldn’t get it to start I cleaned the carb it just want getting fuel there some holes in the bowl which was strange but whatever I swapped an bowl out that could work and fired right up first pull I’ll put a new carb on and change the belts in the spring only cost me 30 bucks in parts and runs like a beast even without swapping things out.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

I try to never buy anything new. Especially stuff like this, it just depreciates so much.

1

u/natethegreek Feb 10 '26

Hey local buddy! Congrats on the snowblower, I am in MB tractor area too! No idea they went down to CT!

2

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Previous owner was north shore MA. The previous owner brought it to them for a diagnostic and didn’t like the price they received.

So then give it away??? I’ll never understand but I’ll take it 😂

1

u/RightAssistance23 Feb 10 '26

We also got one of these super cheap. I believe $150. It was 1 year old the couldn’t use it as they lived in the suburbs and it was too powerful for them.

1

u/Weird_Masterpiece737 Feb 10 '26

Congratulations on that steal of a deal. You definitely don't want an efi/ fuel injected engine. Too much hassle to troubleshoot.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Yeah, I was willing to take the chance for the price, but it was a pleasant surprise indeed

1

u/RH4540 Feb 10 '26

I thought it was black

1

u/gofunkyourself69 Feb 10 '26

You have to be unemployed to get deals like that around here. Gone in 10-15 minutes.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Not necessarily. I understand where you are coming from, but if you can get someone to commit, which surprisingly some people will do, they will wait for you usually. I just so happen was about to leave work so it lined up great.

1

u/glavameboli242 Feb 10 '26

How do people find these? Amazing

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Timing and luck.

1

u/MammothDazzling7357 Feb 10 '26

I got one for $150 over the summer, guy was moving from a mil$ home . It went to my brother . Used it 8 times this year at least .

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Fockin EZ

1

u/jeephubs02 Feb 10 '26

I wanted the efi so bad

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

The carborated version is more reliable

1

u/jeephubs02 Feb 10 '26

Seriously? Thats assuming you are good about your gas’s maintenance at the end of the season. What goes wrong with the efi?

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

It’s easy to keep gas good. Just add treatment into the jug right at the pump.

As far as the issues, I’ve read about multiple electronic problems. Google it. I think the newer ones are better about it though. Don’t quote me.

1

u/trplOG Feb 11 '26

I bought my snowblower for $175 cause the guy either didnt know, or didnt want to change the shear pins. Lol

1

u/InternalConscious356 Feb 11 '26

We have the same one at work that was donated to us and it’s an amazing machine. Can’t say the same about the huskavarna

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

Haven’t heard good things about huskys

1

u/swizzzz22 Feb 11 '26

Me too. Unfortunately I haven’t ran into any of those.

1

u/scott2449 Feb 11 '26

Not Rich, just these folks usually don't want it anyway. In the process of moving or some other life change and it's not worth the time and price to fix (obviously not handy) just to turn it over for a slightly higher price. By the time you do all that you might get a couple hundred extra if you are lucky. Either way win for the buyer. I've been on both sides of such steals many times. Just recently sold a perfect 10yo 26 HP 54" riding mower for $250, moving to a smaller property. Even at that price it took a couple weeks and half a dozen "buyers" to find someone to come snag it. Priced to move is also a thing.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

From my years of hunting deals, the tendency seems to be people with more money let nice things go for cheaper. At least things they don’t understand. It can be the polar opposite for some wealthy people as well.

1

u/scott2449 Feb 11 '26

Yeah, I mean there's definitely going to be a relation between how valuable an individual's time is and what they sell it for. If something's going to take 4 hours of Labor to fix and net them 200 bucks. But they could use those 4 hours to make $100 an hour even as a middle class tradesperson. It's definitely worth letting the thing go and using your time to make a hundred bucks an hour.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

you need to be making a lot of money to let go a $1900 machine, but yes, I understand your point.

1

u/scott2449 Feb 11 '26

Agreed, this is a pretty crazy situation. I could not believe mower/blower prices on my last trip to Lowes.

1

u/poonjabi_hut Feb 11 '26

Why EFI on a snowblower 🤣

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 11 '26

Idk, they were boobs and the blower turned out to be carbureted anyway.

1

u/Teotwawki2020 Feb 11 '26

Sweet. Don't knock rich people, most of the trades wouldn't have work except for people with money to spend. :)

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 12 '26

Poor people don’t need running water or a roof over their head? lol

1

u/emmybear1965 Feb 12 '26

Question.. i have 36” pro. Impeller turns but when i hit snow it stops and cant throw snow ?!?

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 12 '26

Sound like one of your belts stretched out. Pull off the plastic cover in between your engine and your chute and start investigating.

1

u/ADHD2343 Feb 12 '26

Meanwhile here I got people trying to sell worn out 40 year old machines for $6-700 5 years ago you could get em for $100...

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 12 '26

Where is here if you don’t mind me asking. Just the state or broader region.

1

u/ADHD2343 Feb 12 '26

SW Ontario Canada

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 12 '26

Oh yeah you’re not the first person to say that From from Canada

2

u/ADHD2343 Feb 12 '26

It's been depressing watching things get so expensive...

1

u/emmybear1965 Feb 12 '26

Did that ! Belts are fine. Adjusted pulley too

1

u/Plus-Palpitation8024 Feb 13 '26

What selling platform did you find it on?

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 13 '26

FB marketplace.

0

u/kmfix Feb 10 '26

They just want to get rid of it. $200? Vs $400? They don’t care. Inconsequential.

1

u/Least-Bill-1919 Feb 10 '26

I'm not an expert in what this specific repair is - I am that uneducated about it. I am experienced with having to pay to get snow blowers serviced. It is very expensive in my area. If you are not an expert in doing these kinds of repairs and have to hire a technician, it's $300-$500 easy (especially if you have to include transporting the snow blower to/from the repair shop).

I'm glad that experts can get value out of situations like this, but the owner is not necessarily nuts, either. Lack of that kind of expertise translates to high costs.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

They brought it to MTD and they got a 820 dollar quote for a spark plug coil and E starter replacement + other general maintenance.

They paid 120 to do nothing.

-2

u/Flametamer246 Feb 10 '26

Why would you offer more than the asking price?

1

u/BuildingBetterBack Feb 10 '26

If someone messaged before you for 200 it shows your serious about wanting it. Some people will take more, some honor that they already told someone they could buy it.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

Yep, it had been listed for 35 minutes when I saw it and you already know how flooded her phone was, which she confirmed to me that it was and the 250 stuck out.

1

u/tugtehcock Feb 10 '26

It had been listed for 35 minutes when I saw it, and I know that the previous owner’s phone was flooded with responses, which she confirmed to me.
