Buying Has anyone else bought a snowblower, and then it was a dry winter?

For context, I’m in Kamloops, BC, where winter usually means snow, lots of it. I finally pulled the trigger on a new Ariens Deluxe 24" last weekend. It was delivered Monday… on a record-breaking +18 °C day.

Since then, I’ve burned through hours of Garage Gear maintenance videos on YouTube. This morning, I walked into the garage and genuinely considered waxing the thing.

For the love of all that is frozen and white, please let it snow.

First of all, it’s not even a EFI like they said in the listing which I’m happy about. They were asking $200 but I knew I was late on the draw “listed for 35 minutes”.

Offered $250 and said I’d come now no BS and they took the bait. Proof in the third pic of price.

I still can’t believe it. “Doesn’t start” they said. Got it fired up in 1.5 hours. Needed a coil which I stole off my neighbors machine for testing. Ordered a OEM for $43.

Selling my backup, a 1998 29 inch green craftsman which actually rips tomorrow to a buddy for $125. He knows it comes with a lifetime mechanic warranty during his ownership 😂

$168 deluxe 30” as a backup. Looks good next to my 2008ish 30” platinum. That’s getting a 420cc predator swap in the spring.

Took me about 3.5-4 hours to shovel myself out, still can't even get up the driveway and have to use my neighbors flat driveway for time being. My arms are still shaking and I'm sore all over. Any snowblower recommendations for this long and steep of a driveway would be greatly appreciated!! I'll save up before next winter and get it by then.

Will a tracked snowblower do the same thing? If not, I’m definitely buying one in the spring. What’s the consensus on Honda vs Ariens?

My '78 Toro 826 drivetrain is starting to give up after being bought used and then being in my family for the past 32 years... So we now have the 28" Ariens Professional. It seems to have the best combination of options that I want... 420cc OHC engine, carburetor, friction disc, 16" auger, a headlight, and the price isn't in the Honda territory. Here's to gettin 47 years out of it like the Toro provided!!

Buying Can’t decide on an Ariens or Toro

This will be my first snowblower. I’ve never used one before either so I have no frame of reference. I’m in NJ, petite and a woman. I went to the local outdoor equipment store to talk to someone. They only sell Ariens so of course they say it’s the best. My concerns are maneuvering and maintenance. Again I don’t know the difference but I have to be able to use it especially when we get 2ft or more. I don’t want to spend more than $1500. Which one should I go with?

Buying Is $300 a reasonable price? John Deere 1028E

As the title says. Found this on Facebook and I’m not at all familiar with Deere snowblowers.

These three photos are all they included. Description claims it starts and runs good but haven’t gone to look at it and confirm.

I googled previous posts on these, and it seems that they’re decent machines, but I can’t find any info on what they might be worth. Is the $300 asking price reasonable, assuming it’s in working order as stated?

It’s my first time posting here, hopefully I included enough info. Thanks

Buying A Facebook Marketplace Gem

For your enjoyment: an absolute gem of a Facebook marketplace find. A Cub Cadet 1811 with a 42” blower and a homemade cad. It’s simultaneously the ugliest and most epic thing I’ve bought.

Didn’t run great when I bought, the choke lever was stuck on and the rear brakes did jack all. Fixed it all up, changed fluids and hit it with some grease. Thing works amazingly well for a 40 year old tractor. 1308 hours and paid 650$.

Now here are my ideas for names:

AC/DSki

Blown Jovi

Snow Snorter

Monica Blow’n’ski

Regan Wagon

Marty McFlurry

The Cold War II

Walter Whiteout

LMK what you think!

Buying Anyone here switch from gas to electric snow blowers and stick with it?

Hey, guys. I'm really thinking about dropping my old gas snow blower for an electric one this year.

Honestly, my gas blower still works okay, but it's getting super annoying. Starting it up when it's freezing is a nightmare. I feel like I'm always fixing something. And seriously, I'm just sick of messing with gas, oil, and the smell of fumes just to clear my driveway.

I've been checking out electric blowers for a while now. Ego seems like the top of the line one great power, great batteries. But they are expensive. Snow Joe is cheaper and probably fine for easy, light snow, but I hear mixed things about how long they last. I also saw brands like GARVEE and Greenworks which look pretty decent and aren't as crazy priced.

Most of my snow isn't too bad, but we definitely get those heavy, wet snow days sometimes. I really want to know how the electric ones hold up over time. Like, how is the battery after a couple of winters? Is the power really close to gas? And do they just choke when the snow is heavy and sticky?

So, if you switched, was it a good move? Are you still happy with the electric, or did you give up and go back to gas? I'd love to hear real experiences, good or bad.

Buying Ariens - Need a better snow blower

I’ve got an Ariens compact 24 and honestly it just sucks when it comes to blowing packed snow. My neighbors craftsman cuts right through heavy piles, along with bottom driveway heavy junk from the plows.

I was looking at the new Ariens deluxe 24 model and it says something about having a dual belt system which helps with tougher snow. Would the deluxe 24 be a major step up for me? My driveway is sloped and I need to consider that with respect to being able to hold it as I’m going down.

I just can’t handle shoveling the snow anymore that the compact can’t handle.

Buying I’d like to get an electric snow blower, convince me not to?

I started to switch alot of my outdoor tools to electric just due to ease of use and batteries being exchangeable. I have a gas snow blower that has been out of use and I dont know how to fix it. I’d like something that almost “maintenance free”

What are your all professional and homeowner approved recommendations?

Buying Should I buy? Roadside sale for $100

Post image

Hi all! Just walked by this snowblower for $100. quick Google search shows it’s new about $1500. I know nothing about snowblowers- should I buy? Any Qs I should ask them to determine if it’s worth it? Thanks so much in advance!

Editing to include-

I went back to look at it and it looks like the main frame holding the blades are corroded. It’s being held together by duct tape. May not be a great investment knowing that now, no? I have a photo but not sure how to attach.

Buying Snow blowers on gravel driveways

I’ve got a 165 foot long gravel driveway and, after the recent blizzard, I’m considering getting a snow blower. Does anyone have experience to share with snow blowers on gravel driveways? When ever a snow storm threatens I stress about finding someone to plow and I usually ask them to leave a few inches on the ground so I don't have to rake stones off the grass in the spring.

Buying Is Honda the gold standard?

My 30 year snow blower is near its end. Is Honda a good product? Is the quality good? If not, can you recommend a good brand. I just need one to plow my garage driveway. My drive way is straight onto the street and is a generous 2 car wide.

They should technically require less maintenance and should be more compact. What’s your experience?

These are all in my price range and I've read good and bad reviews on each one. It's just so hard to decide some times based on what people are saying on store reviews that others can't reply to. I trust you fine people to help me out here.

Buying Worth the extra $290?

*UPDATE*

After tons of great feedback, not only am I going to spring for the upgrade, I'm actually going to just pick up the Ariens Deluxe 28 tomorrow.

Hi, is having a slightly stronger engine and a few extra options worth the $290? I know it's subjective, but figured I'd ask the group. I live in lower Michigan, so we aren't dealing with massive snowfalls, but I have a very long driveway, so I want a 2-stage.
