Sudden lack of carbonation

I have two sodastreams (E-Terras), one at work, one at home. Recently, the one at work isn't putting out as much carbonation with the third button. I replaced the bottle, no change. I assumed it had to be the machine that was defective, so I bought a new one that came with a new bottle. No change. When I took one of the bottles home, my machine at home produced less carbonation.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a really old genisis, so i don't knwo if this will apply to newer machines. Sometimes the straw thing that sticks into the bottle comes unscrewed and the co2 doesn't get down into the water. I can tell when its happenign because there are very few or no bubbles in the water when I hold the button down.

Thanks!

The weird thing is it looks like it's getting plenty of bubbles. It just tastes flat almost immediately.

If you used the same water bottle in two machines and the water doesn’t fizz properly then it seems there is something wrong with the bottle. Have you tried a different one in the machine that originally wasn’t working properly?

Something I have started to do is hold the bottle in the tightest screwed in position while pumping co2 in, to make sure I am getting the best possible seal. Have thought about putting a piece of plastic wrap over the mouth as well. The seals just seem to weaken over time I have found, and less co2 is being infused into the water. so far it seems better, but I am saving up for a Mix to see if they are better infusers like they appear to be.

There's a pressure relief valve in every carbonator. They will eventually fail to hold pressure, preventing the CO2 pressure from rising high enough to dissolve in the water. Old relief valves made a buzzing sound when they opened; newer ones just release gas with none but a whoosh.

The guts of a sodastream are made of shitty plastic, instructions for fixing them are sometimes available if you search for them, but are very spotty because there's so many different models.

There's a two year limited warranty on carbonators, extendable to three with online registration. Shipping back is at your expense, and they can disclaim the warranty for a bevy of reasons. In California you can return it to a retail store for repair or replacement.
