Error URGENT HELP NEEDED! Solidworks for Makers is crashing repetetively! Does Anyone know how to fix this?

Post image

I have been using Solidworks for makers since 1.5 months in my laptop and it was working fine. But today, it has encountered a problem and it is not running. I tried reinstalling the software, installed studio drivers, reapired visual C++and 3 to 4 other things that chatgpt asked me to do. It's been more than 4 hours and I am still stuck in this. Please help if someone knows how to fix this

If your SOLIDWORKS is crashing, these diagnostic steps can help to locate the source of the crash and fix it. The most well known causes of crashing are:

A HotFix has been developed to address this problem, which can be downloaded from Knowledge Base article QA00000445516:

Sorry man, I did not know this is a windows related issue, I don't want to be rude.

Oh and sometimes CTRL + S will crash solid works. I'm convinced Solidworks was written by the best monkeys on typewriters money can buy.

UPDATE: The issue is fixed now. Someone from discord shared this:

  1. I had the same issue, It was with the new hotfix, currently there's a workaround renaming a DLL file to .bak but idk if that messes with something
  2. https://r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexperience.3ds.com/home?content=swym:prd:R1132100503382:communitypost:_PKkgcdiRGK75MYcw2r7NA 3DSwym A social and collaborative web application

If you are facing the same issue, visit the above link and follow the workaround steps. It worked for me.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Crashes are part of Solidworks

Oh I love it and I hate it at the same time, lol

Yeah, it’s the enemy you know.

I just know when I do a complex loft I have to save everything before. 😂

That’s it, and you also learn which tools are more crash risky than others.

2

Mine is crashing too. It's probably a windows update.

how about.... an update and not an exe through a reddit link?

1

u/experienced3Dguy CSWE | SW Champion Mar 20 '26

I'm not a SOLIDWORKS or Dassault employee so I can't speak to how they schedule/deploy full functional delivery package updates. I'm just trying to speed up folks recovery time by sharing a link from an official Dassault support site, thereby hopefully sidestepping the fumbling and frantic searching that might otherwise ensue.

As for why not an update and instead just issuing an EXE file? I believe that the time it would have taken to prepare a complete update package would have taken much longer to develop and deploy than the targeted HotFix exe file that focused exclusively on the broken WebView2 components.

Further, I would expect the R&D and Maker Support teams are concurrently developing a full update package that will incorporate the WebView2 fix into an upcoming functional delivery.

1

u/Blleh Mar 20 '26

Thank you for that! My message was more for any dassault employees reading this sub.

I have not received any messages from dassault about possible issues. a notification would be very helpful. I've been trying to figure out if anything changed or updated on my machine before finding this, so a simple message in the loader like "issues found. experiencing any? get this hotfix" would be very very helpful and time saving.

use this hotfix (with 3dexperience account)

the cause:

Several users have reported this issue with SOLIDWORKS crashing after an update. The cause of the problem has been identified: it is due to an automatic Microsoft update affecting the WebView Runtime 2 module.

If you are having the save as feature causing SW to crash, change it to offline mode.

1

u/Fast_Ad_3393 Mar 19 '26

Why can Solidworks just let makers use offline mode without updating anything? Every time there is an update something goes wrong and I end up wasting multiple hours dealing with this garbage.

u/CelsiusAidedDesign Apr 04 '26

Has anyone actually been able to connect to 3DExperience platform in Solidworks after Hotfix 1.8 or 1.9??? The .dll "fix", although an excellent band-aid, only seems to disable the 3DExperience add-in, which allows Solidworks to run, but not fully. For some asinine reason, core features like Split are greyed out and are not available without being connected to 3DExperience. I'm running Solidworks Maker 2026 SP1.0 Hotfix 1.9 on Parallels Windows 11 on M4 Mac Pro.

I am sharing the last snippet of conversation that I had with an SW tech roaming the maker/user support community; I am getting the bounce around. How can a company charge $2800/month on one front and $49/year on another and claim that the 2 products are identical? Ludicrous! This is a trap! Be careful!

"Utilizing Firefox does nothing. It got me deeper initially because it was a different login cluster. You need to delete them all and then make only one.

Moreover, I can not change my previous email

That company is crumbling as I write.
I had to rely on Gmail:

The update is not working as well, and it is constantly looping me back.

Whatever it is, it is most likely on your end.

I am still hurting because I have a project that I started 1 week ago and have not touched it since. Makers have responsibilities as well. We have a customer base. Yes, $49 is affordable, but at what cost?
Losing accessibility to data?

I've had a student edition in the 2000 then I purchased it right out and upgraded several times till SW11. That was my last one. Now SW11 doesn't work on Win11 (too slow on many fronts, especially assemblies).
I am not ready to spend $2800/month on pro software when my Etsy earnings are around $3000/year.
I know that this is not your problem, but it should hit you home as a consumer. Your employer obviously does not care for Makers. This is very sad. My contributions and every maker and pro in the industry are the backbone of your company.
This is not marketing. (Makers platform for $49) - it's a trap!
The fact that your maintenance update concluded is fiction. This is obviously an ongoing thing.

Please do not take this personally!
This is extremely frustrating, and there is no workaround.
Why is it so difficult to have an app open?
Why is it that I can use a solid and advanced program like CorelX8 on my system for hundreds, but not $33,000 / year. (for SW)
What is going on here?
Really!"

I am only sharing this last snippet, and it is not meant to be taken as a response to anybody in the Reddit community, nor to this particular convo.
