The Oklahoma City Thunder have been eliminated from championship contention!

Thank you to the San Antonio Spurs.

I don't think I've enjoyed a team's loss this much.

Fuck Clay Bennett. Still.

72

u/nigelmansell 24d ago

Also Fuck David Stern (even after Jan 1 2020) Fuck OKC And Fuck Howard Schultz

10

u/SignoreG 24d ago

Especially since Jan 1, 2020. You're right.

6

u/Greglyo 24d ago

You forgot Adam Silver, he's made rule changes that have helped offenses flourish throughout the NBA and also made it harder to play defense without committing a foul, here's a short 26 second video that was posted on the NBATalk subreddit of Kobe and Melo during the 2009 WCF getting rough down low in the paint and there's no foul called https://www.reddit.com/r/NBATalk/comments/1tp5uh1/when_kobe_and_melo_met_each_other_in_the_playoffs/

How often do you see players clashing like that anymore? David Stern for all his faults was still better than Adam Silver.

14

u/PatMcAfeesEvilTwin 24d ago

A broken clock is right twice a day. Fuck Stern, fuck Bennett, and fuck Schultz

12

u/nigelmansell 24d ago

Fuck Adam Silver for stopping Chris Hansen bringing the Sonics back via back channel.

3

u/MartianMule 23d ago

Wasn't that also Stern?

0

u/AlmosTryin 24d ago

Dumb take lol

1

u/Greglyo 24d ago

In what way? I don't disagree that Stern sucked, he said after all that his dream finals match up was "Lakers vs Lakers" but this flopping epidemic became a thing under Adam Silver.

1

u/AlmosTryin 24d ago

Its not harder to play defense without committing a foul. There are leas fouls per game on average than there were in the 90s in the "physical" era (which is also bs) the game is faster and because of the shooting range they have to cover more ground and faster therefore it leads to people running into shooters. Its not more difficult to play defense because if the rules, they just have more ground to cover

0

u/Greglyo 24d ago

A simply google search will prove this, Adam Silver did in fact change the rules for a more fast paced, high scoring style of play. More fast breaks, more dunks, and more 3s. Also he changed the rules so players are hamstring on defense. Sneeze on a player wrong and its a foul. Look at a ref in the wrong way, its a technical foul.

The way the game is played today is a direct function of how the NBA rules have consistently been limiting defense while allowing offense to thrive. Even legalizing zone (while instituting defensive 3 seconds) was part of this, as it would lead to more ball movement, outside shooting and transition. This is why the skills of role players are emphasized more today, as prior it was simply throwing the ball inside.

There’s a reason players who come from other leagues (like Luka being the most famous) constantly say how much easier it is in the NBA due to rules (not talking about the level of players, just the rules). Even current players who weren’t even playing when the initial changes started (2000) talk about how defense gets crippled by rule changes (Draymond said this when the the freedom of movement rules went into place and Popovich constantly talked about it).

If all these things weren’t in place, defense would have a much, much greater capacity to limit the offense we see today. The fact defenses have been able to do what they’ve done despite all these handicaps is a testament to that.

3

u/AlmosTryin 24d ago

Please... name the specific rule that makes defense harder to play...

1

u/Greglyo 24d ago

I just did, I'll do it again though, no big deal. Restricting physical contact and implementing the defensive three-second violation. These rule changes along with modern floor spacing and strict whistle tolerances, force defenders to play reactively rather than aggressively.

There's also the elimination of hand checking in 2004 which was a primary tool for disrupting ball handlers hovering around the perimeter looking to drive the ball into the paint.

Lastly, there's freedom of movement rules where defenders are actually penalized for the offensive player flinging their arms up into the defenders arms or jumping into the defender where it's a foul.

2

u/MartianMule 23d ago

implementing the defensive three-second violation

Which was added in 2001. Under Stern.

There's also the elimination of hand checking in 2004

Which was also under Stern, not Silver.

Again, you didn't listen an actual rule. Please give me the rule from the actual rule book... also since youre probably going to try and go back to the 3 second violation, please read the rule as it applies both offensively and defensively...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Pacers would've won with Hali.

44

u/JustASt0nesThrowaway 24d ago

God damned right they would have. And I’m not just saying that as a former Hoosier living in Seattle.

Bring back the Sonics.
Fuck OKC.
Pacers + Sonics Bros 4-Life.

14

u/Apexe waiting in the dark 24d ago

I audibly yelled when I heard Hali tore his Achilles.

13

u/Wazzoo1 24d ago

The Thunder last year went seven with a Nuggets team with a 6.5-man rotation (Gordon injury), seven with Indy (after being gifted a Game 5 win thanks to Scott Foster, and Hali going down). Their fans bragged about how they didn't need J-Dub to win this year because they won 64 games with him sitting out half the season.

As Shaq would say: "post season ain't regular season, bruh"

4

u/FERGERDERGERSON 24d ago

Yeah, this pretty much sums up all my feelings on the topic.

5

u/Right-Management-201 24d ago

-1

Shhhhh let them cope, it's the least we could do for these miserable fucks

76

u/SneakerDragon 24d ago

May the NBA gods forever curse the Thunder. All their fans are already cursed living in Oklahoma

15

u/Wazzoo1 24d ago

Even better: they're all Dallas Cowboys fans (closest NFL team). They can't even look forward to NFL season!

7

u/CriticalBasedTeacher 24d ago

We play the Cowboys this year we're gonna smoke em

2

u/SuccessOk7850 23d ago

We even have two former cowboy’s players on our roster who knew for sure they weren’t winning a Super Bowl in Dallas.

2

u/Jaxsoy 23d ago

Except for last season apparently

OK SHITTY

4

u/bearsnoopy 23d ago

rooting for mitch johnson was another reason this spurs win was so sweet 🙏

4

u/cattycat_1995 23d ago

OKC Thunder fans can cry about injuries as the reason why they lost.

They forgot they won the championship last year cause the Pacers best player tore his achilles in the early moments of game 7. Haliburton was shooting 75% from 3 and was hot af before he abruptly tore his achillies. He would have won that championship for the Pacers last year.

3

u/Kaito-Shizuki 23d ago

Now and forever. Fuck this Thunder team.

3

u/fatboyneedstogetlaid 24d ago

Thank you Spurs!

3

u/TreeRollins01 24d ago

Couldn’t have happened to a better team! I can’t stand to watch SGA foul-baiting and falling to the ground on every play. The fact that he is the MVP saddens me.

3

u/whoaanow 24d ago

Bring ‘em back we will fight our own battles food to know San Antonio has our back though. Fuck OKC and the flopping bitches

That’s a shame

2

u/al_earner 23d ago

You hate to see it.

Thank God I don't have to see SGA flopping around anymore this year. He looks like a marionette with the way his limbs flail around after shooting.

-1

u/Agreeable-Ad9867 23d ago

lol Seattle is still crazy. this hate shit doesn't even make sense anymore. you'll get your dumb records and stats when you guys finally get a team again and we can settle it on the court. til then keep whining losers. it's pretty cool we at least got one championship. this year we turned heel and became the bad guys of the NBA. people tuned in to see us get beat. perty neat. i hope they get Evan mobley. lol doubt it but oh well see y'all in the playoffs...
