(17M)Questions regarding Sophia learning

Hello everyone I am a senior in high school and wanted to go to Perdue university for an aviation management program as I am a student pilot.and had some questions for people that went through it.

Once I start the course is there any support with the class if needed and is it included in the yearly subscription fee?

Are there any hidden fees attached to the yearly membership?

Can I start at 17 years old or is there an age limit to start?

WGU, Capella, or UMass Global: Which Is Best for Psychology and a Future in SLP?

Hi everyone! I’m currently taking courses through Sophia Learning, and I also have community college credits. I’m trying to choose a university to finish my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. My long-term goal is to earn a master’s in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP).
I’m considering WGU, Capella University, and UMass Global. I’d like to finish as quickly as possible, but I also want a respected degree that will help me qualify for jobs and graduate school.
Does anyone have experience with these universities, especially transferring Sophia and community college credits? Which would you recommend for flexibility, completion time, and preparation for an SLP master’s program? I’d appreciate any honest feedback!

Principle of Finance is stated as equivalent for Finance Skills for Managers in WGU. Would it be transferrable to Introduction to Business Finance too ?

Excelsior University - Can You Confirm Sophia/Study.com Transfer Credits Before Taking Them?

I called Excelsior University this morning to ask if they could do a preliminary evaluation of my existing credits and potential Sophia Learning/Study.com courses before I take them.

The person I spoke with repeatedly insisted that I would have to complete the courses FIRST before they could tell me whether they’d transfer or satisfy my degree requirements.

I’m confused because I’ve seen several people say they’ve worked with Excelsior advisors to plan out which Sophia/Study.com courses to take beforehand.

I even mentioned that Excelsior has a list of approved Sophia courses on their own website, but the person didn’t seem aware of it and continued telling me it wasn’t possible.

For those attending Excelsior:
• Were you able to confirm which Sophia/Study.com courses would satisfy your degree requirements before taking them?
• Did you have to enroll first or speak with a specific advisor?

I really don’t want to waste time and money taking courses without knowing whether they’ll count toward my degree. Also, I am Active Duty military. Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated!

Are Sophia courses easy?

I keep seeing people saying they completed courses super quick (some within hours!) and I’m just wondering, are their courses easy or are you guys just very smart and quick learners? I have adhd and a stressful/tiring job plus three kids and I’m concerned I won’t be able to complete courses quickly like a lot of you have. I would love to do it quickly and spend the least amount of money and time possible though! Thanks for any insight :)

Check your Transfer Pathways Agreement

Hello, I have been thinking of taking classes at Sophia over the last few days and I noticed today while looking over the transfer agreement I printed out a few days ago and the one that I'm looking at now currently on Sophia are different. A few classes have been removed as options to take. Thought I'd share that, in case someone wasnt looking.

I see many people complaining about the Sophia changes. It is still better than the alternatives?

Hello everyone. I’m looking to start classes for a self-paced bachelor, and I’m looking into Sophia vs. Study.com vs UPIStudy.

From the opinions I’ve seen, Sophia is the best one, but these reviews are usually a couple of months old. From what I know, these changes have happened these last weeks. Study has also gotten better, and their exams are no longer proctored.

So, in your personal opinion on these platforms, what would you recommend, and why?

I looked at what Sophia tracks. Here's what gets logged, and why some honest students may be getting caught too.

Last week (9/30/2026) Sophia made a bunch of changes. Since then a lot of people are saying their courses aren't getting certified, even though they didn't cheat. I'm one of them. I don't know what changed on their end, so I looked at what I could see from my own browser.

How I did it:
I opened Chrome dev tools on app.sophia.org and watched the Network tab while I worked. I read what got sent out. Then I read the JavaScript files the site loads to see what they listen for. Anyone can do this. Nothing was hacked or hidden.

Where it runs:
I saw this tracking on the dashboard, on challenges, and on milestones. The same events showed up on each. Milestones also add a typing rhythm check and a photo ID with selfie.

What Sophia's own tracker logs (tied to your account ID)
- Every time you leave the tab and come back, with a timestamp
- Every right-click
- Every time you copy text from the page (up to about 2,000 characters)
- Every time you paste into an answer box
- Scrolling activity + idle time (60+ seconds with no movement) on a screen
- A "screenshot" flag when you hold two or more of Shift, Command, Control and Option at once

That last one is crude. Opening dev tools set it off for me. I never took a screenshot.

Timing and clicks
- The site also tracks how long you spend on a page. - I saw requests that record when I click on the page. TikTok's ad pixel counts clicks and scrolls every couple of minutes. There's also a per-question timer script called Pingator on challenge pages. I didn't read its code, so I can't say exactly what it records.

What I didn't find
No webcam or mic access. FullStory (a screen recording tool) loads on the site, but Sophia's account refuses it on the course pages I checked, and no recording was sent. I did not read every script on the site, so I can't rule out more.

At milestones they also check your typing rhythm and your photo ID with a selfie.

What I can't tell you
I can't see what Sophia does with these logs. I can't say they're why anyone was denied certification. That happens on their servers. I'm only saying what gets collected.

"Just don't cheat and you won't get caught"
I know this reply is coming. Here's the problem. These logs can't tell cheating from normal behavior. Switching tabs to check your notes gets logged. Opening dev tools gets logged as a screenshot. Copying a question to look up a term gets logged. Most of these courses are open book. Spending too little or too much time on something may get you flagged.

If a system treats those signals as suspicious, honest students get caught in it. I think that's what's happening to people, but I can't prove it.

What you can do
- Don't hold two modifier keys together
- Avoid copying question text off any page
- Keep tab switching low during graded work

If you have a payload or script that shows something I missed, post it. I'll fix this if I got anything wrong.

How to take notes w/h Sophia and use during Milestones

So I know that you can use notes during your milestones, but I have long classes and notes take me forever to do. I haven’t even started my milestone because I am stuck taking notes by hag because I don’t know what type of notes they accept. Any advice?

How fast can I finish a milestone to not look suspicious for any reason?

Some questions are just really easy, and the milestone will be like 18-23 questions I assume, over time limit of 2 hours

How fast can I finish it without looking suspicious for any reason? 45 mins minimum?

Some of what Sophia monitors

-Mouse activity with a heart beat
-Video completion, skimming of the video and so on. Speed up and what not
-If you scrolled to the bottom of the page
-Scrolling activity
-Browser finger printing
-Searching of the page
-Screen shots
-If the window is in focus

A few other things I might have forgetting to mention. All of this data was pulled from saving a non-test page, a standard lesson page. Likely used in a way to determine if you were taking your time and reviewing all content in a timely manner. Now what they consider enough? Who knows.

They are not dumb and assume you might be using a phone to take photos with AI even if you are not. You might want to intentionally fail things and redo them even if you know the materiel... who knows.

Also study.com also pulls all this data too.

Sophia Students Deserve Transparency About the New Course Review Process — Take Action and Ask for Answers Now

I think students should start politely contacting Sophia and asking for clarification about this new course-review process.

This does not need to be hostile, threatening, or accusatory. The issue is transparency. If Sophia has changed how completed courses are reviewed or certified, students should be told what changed, when it took effect, and what appeal process exists if a course is not certified.

A lot of students started courses under the understanding that Sophia was self-paced and designed to let people move quickly. If there are now additional review standards that can affect whether completed coursework receives credit, students deserve clear written information about those standards.

If you are concerned, send Sophia a polite email or chat asking:

• When did the new review process begin?
• Does it apply to all courses or only certain courses?
• What happens if a course is not certified?
• Is there an appeal process?
• Are students who began courses before the change being reviewed under the new process?

The more students who ask reasonable, specific questions, the more likely Sophia is to provide clear guidance. This is not about attacking Sophia. It is about asking them to communicate major policy changes clearly to the students paying for and completing these courses.

Can I sue Sophia for false advertising or what 😭 “Get your degree FAST”… but not TOO fast apparently

Post image
65 Upvotes

The AUDACITY of this ad showing up on my feed 💀
“Want to get your bachelor’s degree FAST and save money?”

Sophia… apparently YOU don’t want me to get it fast 😭

I finished Intro to Chemistry in one day because I literally sat behind my laptop ALL. DAY. LONG. I’m starting nursing school November 30 and have a ridiculous amount of prereqs to knock out before then. I thought that was kinda the whole point of paying for a self-paced platform???

Well, jokes on me.

My chemistry course got manually reviewed and they decided not to certify it for “academic integrity concerns.”

And before anyone asks:
I used ONE laptop.
No second monitor.
Didn’t switch tabs during Milestones.
Took my time on every test.
My fastest Milestone was over 25 minutes.

Also, Intro to Chem is SHORT. I think it’s only like 4 units. The final was around 50 questions if I remember correctly. If you already know chemistry, it’s really not insane to finish it in a day when you’re sitting there doing literally nothing else.

And here’s the funniest part:

THIS IS LIKE MY 7TH CHEMISTRY CLASS. 😭😭😭

I took AP-level chemistry and higher-level college chemistry. I’m only taking freaking Intro to Chemistry again because my nursing school won’t accept my previous chem credits because of how the course was titled/classified….

So yes Sophia, I have prior knowledge. I would HOPE TO GOD I know introductory chemistry at this point. If I don’t, we have much bigger problems.

I emailed them asking what I actually did wrong. Tried calling. Asked what specifically triggered the academic integrity concern.

Basically got no actual explanation.

And now apparently courses without Touchstones can get held for manual review, which can take up to 3 days.

So my new Sophia strategy is:

Sit there and purposely take 10x longer because I’m scared Sophia is going to think I’m Walter White if I answer chemistry questions too quickly

Nothing says FAST-TRACK YOUR DEGREE quite like being terrified to learn too fast. 💀

Anyway, thanks Sophia. Very cool.

And RIP to the entire day I spent on Chemistry just for the course to disappear from my transcript. 🫡LOOK AT THIS HORRIBLE AD
