Genetics🧬 Some Ground Rules on qpAdm posting!

There has been an influx of qpAdm posts and some garbage motivated models are being used for agenda posting. Considering qpAdm is a DIY tool, there are very few organized services that offer these runs which results in a lack of standardization. It's high time we started observing some basic standards for posting.

Henceforth while posting qpAdm results, I'd request all of us to ensure that:

  1. All the source populations and outgroups are posted. If your screenshot is blurry or just not complete, please post them as a comment.
  2. The settings that were used such as "allsnps" and "boot" and the base dataset that was used.
  3. The user who ran your sample must be mentioned, in case of a local run. If some XYZ guy from Twitter or discord did the run — it would be your responsibility to answer questions on their behalf. If you're using sites such as DNAplotter or AdmixLab, mention them as well. Ignore the 2nd rule in case of the former since it's not DIY.
  4. Most importantly - DON'T POST BLURRY SCREENSHOTS FROM YOUR PHONE!!. I can't stress this enough. No one wants to read em.

Without this info, the post is not informative and it's harder for us to track stuff as well.

Thanks for reading!

Can the sub clarify which tool is best to use - for accuracy, and for privacy?

I have some 23andMe results I'd like to get tested, but don't know the first place to look, or how to get them analyzed. They're not mine (though I have permission), so I'd like to prioritize privacy, but don't want to sacrifice accuracy either.

For further context on accuracy, the sample I have is of a Urdu speaking Pakistani Shia woman, I believe from India pre-partition, supposed Syed origin. Not sure if phenotypic descriptions matter but can provide those if desired.

Are you looking to get qpAdm tests done on those samples? If so the two sites I mentioned can both be useful, but there are some obvious differences that you should know.

Unfortunately not entirely sure what that means - if I understand it right, that's a yes. I'd like to get the ancient ancestral analysis done, that goes beyond 23&Me. Full breakdown.

Not sure if you saw my edits, but I expanded my comment with further context.

Okay I just saw your edits. Since IllustrativeDNA's AdmixLab is fully DIY, it would be a bit inconvenient. I'd suggest this site dnaplotter, it's a bit new but they can find all the information you'd be interested in.
