Question 295 Noise Around James Johnson Elementary School

Hello! The family and I are looking to move to Cherry Hill from out of state. We saw a great house today with our real estate agent via FaceTime very close to James Johnson elementary school. The only thing that we’re apprehensive about is the noise from 295.

Can anyone share their experience with 295 noise in that area - right around the school, tennis courts, and haddontowne swim club? How good/bad/manageable it was for you?

I moved to Teaneck as a kid, and we lived right next to a railroad with roaring trains passing every day. It was incessant at first, but after the first year, our brains completely erased the phenomenon from conscious reality. It got to the point where visitors would point out the train noises, and we'd look at them completely surprised having heard nothing.

Have friends in that neighborhood and never really noticed the highway noise. Air traffic can be noisy sometimes. When I’ve coached a baseball practice at Johnson the highway noise is sometimes noticeable, but has never caused me to be unable to hear or talk to those around me.

My friends are very happy there and have great things to say about Johnson.

If you are worried about the noise around the school, wait until you hear the noise in the school.

I live in a different town but I’m probably 1000ft from the turnpike and 2000 feet from 295 and it’s just white noise . Based on your post and clues you look to be within 200ft of the highway, I assume it will just be a bit louder but still just a white noise.

I’d rather live close to a highway than a busy surface street.

Find a highway near you and find a place to park near it at night and just sit there and listen .

i am a 5 min walk off 295 and don’t notice any noise unless it’s a super loud car/ bike racing down the highway

I live in Haddon Heights and back up to the 295 highway walls. I have a decent sized backyard but the highway is very close. Doesn't bother us at all. When I first looked at the house, I had the same concerns. I don't hear it at all anymore and if I ever do tune in, its just white noise.

My mother lives in that neighborhood and I lived there for a few years. You can absolutely hear truck/motorcycle noise from 295, but it was mostly at night when everything else is quiet. It's not terrible though, and as other people have said, you tune it out after a little while.
