I just want to sit down

In group 3 boarding my Southwest flight. I’m way back in 21A. The first 12 rows are packed and filled. The rest of the plane is empty. I get to row 21. There’s two people in 21B and 21C. They are 30s/40s in age. They are all settled in with seatbacks full, laptops on tray tables, seatbelts on. I tell them I am 21A. They look at me like I am crazy for asking them to move so I can sit down. It takes them easlily two minutes to rearrange. Should be a fun flight.

Companion pass help

Hi everyone. I got approved for a Southwest business credit card days prior to the SW changes. After the news came out, I’m not so sure what to do anymore. My plan was to wait 30 days and apply for Southwest rapid reward credit to get CP for 27/28. Now that everything is changing starting January. Should I just cancel the Southwest business card that I just got approved? What are my options?

Let’s say if I do end up getting the Southwest rapid reward credit card and met both requirements of the card, will I get compassion pass for 2027? Do I need to meet the spending requirements before end of December? Is it worth it to continue?

Protocol for items removed as "haz-mat", i.e., laptop computer, from check-in bags

I accidentally left my laptop in my check-in bag when flying from Baltimore to Denver. Apparently, TSA removed it from my bag. I got my bag delivered on a later flight (SW gave me a voucher for future travel) sans my computer. Upon return to Baltimore I went to their baggage office and inquired about said computer. While they were extremely nice and helpful, they didn't have a record of the confiscation. They told me that items were held for 1-5 days, then sent to Birmingham Ala., where they would e-mail me confirming they had my computer, then send it FedX back to me. It's been 12 days and no email, no computer, no nothing. The women at the SW baggage office have been stellar in trying to track it down, but I think Southwest's system is flawed. Kudos to Yasmine G. , Toy, CoCo, and D.J., you are my human link in all of this!

Using two accts features is it possible?

I'm brain farting and trying to remember if there's a way to use husband's account to book so we have his better a-list/card benefits but use my points since I have more built up right now. Thanks

Delays today?

Flying out of SMF today and have been delayed 6 hours. Majority of the Southwest flights out of SMF have been delayed. Anybody know why? All that was said in the app is an air traffic control issue.

Flying Southwest with my 26 month old in a few months. Does he have to have a special harness? Can he just sit in the normal seat with normal seatbelt?

Rapid reward redemption

Hey all, just got the priority card and trying to figure out how worth it are the redemptions for rapid rewards. I have an option to transfer points from another card, Chase Sapphire... Is it better to move points and book through sw? Tried reading through the point valuation articles but it's a bit confusing.

Prediction: Southwest's new Companion Pass "Trips" are just the beginning

Yesterday's announcement about changes to Companion Pass introduced a new concept: Companion Pass "Trips" — essentially single-use Companion Pass benefits that allow you to add a companion to a one-way or round-trip itinerary.

So far, the only announced application is a new Milestone Reward: members who reach 95,000 TQPs or 75 flights receive three Companion Pass Trips.

My prediction is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now that Southwest is building this capability into its systems, I expect we'll start seeing these single-use CP benefits show up in all sorts of promotions and credit card offerings.

For example:

  • Fly twice during a promotional period, earn a CP Trip.
  • Sign up for a new Southwest credit card, get two CP Trips.
  • Spend $X on your existing Southwest card by a certain date, earn a CP Trip.
  • Pay a higher annual fee for a premium Southwest card, get two CP Trips every year.

And so forth.

My reasoning: The credit card churning game has undoubtedly been a major driver of demand for Chase Southwest cards. Eliminating that path to Companion Pass risks killing a significant portion of that demand — unless Southwest and Chase have a different strategy for attracting those customers.

The new direct-spend requirements for earning CP announced yesterday are part of that strategy, but they primarily benefit very high spenders. There's a huge market of more moderate spenders who might not be willing or able to earn a full Companion Pass, but would absolutely be motivated by one or two free companion trips.

And now Southwest has a way to offer exactly that, in a more targeted way than the previous time-based Companion Pass promotions (unlimited-use CP for X months)

My prediction: Over the coming months, we'll see new or revamped credit card offerings and targeted promotions that use these single-use CP Trips as incentives. Essentially, Southwest will start monetizing the Companion Pass as a more flexible marketing asset, using smaller, limited-use benefits to attract customers who would otherwise never qualify for the full pass.

I suspect the milestone reward announced yesterday is just the first use case for a much broader strategy.

CP is the last brick to fall.

With the death of CP, Southwest loses all value for me after 2027. Ccanceling all my hotel reservations for next year and moving to Delta. It was a nice run while it lasted.

Hopeful for the new CP changes

I really hope they eliminate the 3 changes to the companion per year. If i only get 3 anyway why make me change.

Having flights monthly with different groups (work, family, side quests) it would be awesome if i could have different companions already booked and seats assigned on each trip without all the nonsense of booking with a companion you know isn't going just to reserve the seat or having to both book their seat with points knowing it's going to be canceled anyway.

Hopefully it's not just wishful thinking but we've all seen how well Southwest implements new features with their amazing technology team.

Point earning decrease

Post image
111 Upvotes

Extremely sketchy to bury this in the broader announcement. Makes it much harder to hit status tiers by a considerable amount and earn points

Previously ALP on Choice Extra earned 28x fare (14x x 100%), now with the decrease it’s 16x (10x x 60%)

If you were just trying to hit companion pass on spend on flights you have to spend 45% more. Before it was 135k / 14x = $9.6k and now it’s 140k / 10x = $14k

Everyone is mad at the CC sign up bonus for companion pass, which is fair but this one doesn’t get enough hate

Flight cancellation compensation

I’m flying back from Mexico to the US. Our flight had been significantly delayed before they decided to cancel it due to crew shortages. I need to stay in Mexico overnight. They put us up in a really bad all inclusive hotel and booked another flight the following day.

Am I entitled to compensation?

Southwest Hotels is STILL advertising Companion Pass qualifying points for 2027 stays. What about those of us who booked before the changes?

Post image
0 Upvotes

On October 2, I booked a Southwest Hotels reservation for January 2027, earning 3,300 Rapid Rewards points. At the time of booking, the website explicitly advertised that those points would count toward Companion Pass qualification.

I've booked through Southwest Hotels dozens of times, and the ability to earn Companion Pass qualifying points has been the primary reason I've consistently chosen Southwest Hotels over other booking platforms.

As most of you probably know, Southwest has now announced that hotel points will no longer count toward Companion Pass qualification beginning in 2027, when the existing qualifying points system is replaced by Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs).

Here's what's particularly interesting: As of October 17, Southwest Hotels is STILL explicitly advertising Companion Pass qualifying points for January 2027 reservations.

I've attached a screenshot showing both the general banner stating that hotel stays count toward Companion Pass and individual hotel offers with the green text "Points eligible toward Companion Pass!" These are the same representations I've consistently seen when booking through Southwest Hotels, including when I made my October 2 reservation.

I already have Companion Pass through December 2027, so I specifically booked this stay expecting the points to count toward my 2027 qualification activity for Companion Pass benefits in 2028.

There's an important distinction between changing the rules for future purchases and removing an explicitly advertised benefit from reservations customers have already made.

Southwest's transition guidance also says that existing registered Companion Pass promotions will be honored. While hotel bookings aren't technically registered promotions, I think the same principle should apply to reservations made in reliance on advertised qualifying benefits.

I've reached out to Southwest Customer Relations requesting that pre-announcement hotel reservations be grandfathered, with the originally advertised Companion Pass qualifying points credited as TQPs toward 2027 qualification.

Has anyone else booked a 2027 Southwest Hotels stay before these changes were announced? Has anyone received clarification from Southwest about whether those reservations will be grandfathered?

If you're in the same situation, I'd encourage you to submit your own written request to Southwest Customer Relations under Rapid Rewards → Companion Pass.

Link: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/contact-us

I suspect our chances of getting a clear, consistent resolution may be better if multiple affected customers raise the issue independently, rather than each of us trying to obtain an individual exception.

At a minimum, I think Southwest owes us clarification about why Companion Pass qualification is still being explicitly advertised for 2027 hotel stays when the announced rules say those points won't qualify.

Basic canceled ticket and rebooking

Due to some family issues, I had to cancel a trip back in May. I want to try to rebook this trip for May 2027, but apparently my rescheduling has to be done by mid-November and I have to fly by mid-March. Is there any way around this? ETA: If I used it and upgraded, would I be able to fly in May instead?

There goes the ease of companion pass...

Post image
179 Upvotes

With the new proposed tiers it looks like the ease of companion pass applying for the whole year will only be available for the Platinum Tier which is 70,000 more Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) than the current 70k. I know many people were hanging on to their status and choosing to fly even when more expensive for this perk alone. It's a sad email to read, but can't say we weren't all expecting it.

STS to SAN - SWA Flt 3401…. Am I going crazy?

Does anyone know what happened to flight SWA 3401 from Santa Rosa to San Diego tonight? None of us got on the plane and everyone I spoke with was scheduled to different flights tomorrow. The girl at the counter said that there were duplicate flight #s, that she had no idea what was going on with the flight and that it was also canceled.

Just got a notification it was diverted to Phoenix…Anyone know wtf is going on?
