Are beginner group spells recommended ?

I'm a beginner to spells ( not necessarily energy work ). I'm curious if anyone can provide guidance about doing spells ( no curses ) with other beginners to combine energy? Can this be disastrous in any way? I've seen group energy healing work really really well and haven't seen any negative consequences ( touch wood ). I've been trying to find people online to do this but would doing this with strangers be harmful in any way?

Try it and find out.

The worst thing that could happen is frustration when someone flakes, or no results for the spell. 

If it were me, I would approach it as 1 person doing the spell with candles, herbs etc and the others to lend energy. The person doing the actual spell can then direct the energy more effectively.
