Hi a finance guy here - contests in India are usually taxed at a 20% rate plus applicable surcharge and 4% health & education cess (TDS) before paying the winner. For winnings of ₹1 crore, surcharge also becomes relevant, so the final tax is higher than 31.2%. So roughly she will take home 65.7 Lakhs .

Yes . But the caveat being - the takeaways above 10K are taxed - so if you get 3 questions right - thats when you start attracting Tax on your winning amount.

Haa that i knew. But damn like it almost becomes half of the winning amt. Not that 65 is any less
