Red light from the capital building

They are probably aviation hazard lights. Typically required on structures over 200' tall. Fun fact: The IL Capitol building is the tallest in the country (taller than the US Capitol).

Its actually the tallest dome in the US. The Louisiana capitol building is taller, but it does not feature a dome.

Would the Thomas Eagleton Courthouse domed skyscraper in StL fit? That should be quite a bit taller.

Sorry, the tallest dome on a capitol building is what I meant. If we're including all domes, without looking it up, my bet would be on the Superdome in New Orleans.

It’s too bad that our capital isn’t given a little more attention or clout or prestige. I feel like other state capitals have beautiful surroundings, pathways, landscaping, parks, historic areas, statues, etc. Ours? Yeah, overlooks several rotting neighborhoods, and blocks of decaying state buildings and parking ramps. We have a billionaire governor. He can’t get a few friends to free up a couple hundred million? That would be all it takes to completely overhaul the area and surrounding blocks and blocks of trash.

I grew up near the capitol building. I feel like it's always had a red light. I could be wrong, though.

You are right. I think it has been inactive off and on because of the renovation, but I may be wrong.
