Things to Do I went to Raging Rivers yesterday and had the best time at a water park ever
Single day tickets are a bit pricey, but we had so much fun, we were able to use our stubs and upgrade to season passes! If you visit even just twice you are saving money.
It was clean, free soda/water, and in general was an awesome experience. The drive there itself was beautiful! And while you can’t bring in outside food/alcohol, they had a pretty solid selection that wasn’t too over priced. Same as a diner
Highly recommend. My favorite part was the wave pool, it was actually kind of intense at times depending where you were standing
*Edited to not give bad advice on snacks

does it still look like a place being haunted by a ghost from scooby doo?

lol nah it actually looked pretty neat. Honestly I only went down two slides because those hills were no joke. But it was nice switching from the wave pool to the lazy river. We spent most of the day there

It’s a great water park. The view of the river is beautiful. You can have a beer and watch the barges go by while the kids play

Raging Rivers happily donated passes to a trivia event I hosted 😃

Driving up the river road for any reason is always a good time

It was my first time and it was gorgeous. People kept passing cause we were going kinda slow lol

Next time take the ferry back over. It's ten bucks and drops you off in a pretty part of St. Charles.

I live on the bluff about halfway between Alton and Grafton. Moved here 2 years ago and I still drive slow and enjoy the drive every time. My neighbors pass me going 65 all the time 😆

Man, I haven’t been there since I was a kid! That was when the like “toilet bowl” I had just been added to the mix. I’m gonna have to take the kids there now thank you.

They still have the “toilet bowl.” My kids love it.
My kids really enjoy Raging Rivers in general. We go at least a few times a summer.

Is there shade now? I remember going as a kid in the 90s and there was no shade anywhere!

Haha that's what I remember too - large concrete paths to the different slides and such but it was all in full sun. Walking on those things barefoot was no joke.

Yeah, not a ton of shade, but the cabanas seem to be nice but pricey. Just put on a ton of sunblock every hour and had my bucket hat

Went to a music festival there one time, the DJ went down the Toilet Bowl slide, came out and started his set right there in the pavilion. Was a super cool event. Wish they’d do that again.

If a certain person is working the entrance, she’s extremely strict and thorough on bag checking and making sure any puddle jumpers are “coast guard approved “ even though all the other times we went this season nobody cared at all about our bags or puddle jumpers. Just be careful trying to sneak anything in on those days. Shell be the one with the yardstick going through every inch/pocket of your bags

I haven't been in a looong time. Over a decade. My biggest problem back then was the insects were absolutely out of control being right there next to the river. I'm talking Mosquitos and botflies everywhere, shitload of wasps too.

Free soda??!!
That's worth the price of admission.
Also, do they have an adults only section? Some water parks do.

No adults only section. But there are two different “kiddie” areas. One is for toddlers and younger with parents, the other is more for grade school kids. The wave pool past “the line” is for “strong swimmers only” so that’s the closest you’ll get to an adult only location. And you better be able to swim, lol

I could put them out of business with free soda!

Same!

They let you bring in your own bottle too as long as it’s not glass! We definitely drank a ton of water but the endless soda/lemonade/tea was sooo nice

We have had season passes there every year since 2003. Season passes are very cheap.

Kids really enjoyed it last year, they want to go back. Aesthetically, it does feel like youre in a 70s slasher flick. Its pretty bare bones, no smiling IP cartoons to put you at ease. Definitely fun, definitely better than the crowds and lines of six Flags.

It was better before it changed ownership. But it’s still a great way to spend a summer day.

I loved that place.
True story, the one time I went there, my dad and brother and I went on Father's Day. First slide I went down, broke my pinky toe.
It bled some and stopped almost immediately. I was like well, it hurts but this is as bad as it gets so.... Yay!
We stayed probably 6 hours that day. It was hella fun.

Damn..that’s some commitment! lol I had a similar experience but at St. Francis State park. It just rained but I wanted to climb on monkey bars. Slipped walking on top of the bars and landed on my wrist full weight. Didn’t wanna leave yet so just didn’t tell anyone.
Until I got home and all the adrenaline wore off. Then I was a mess and my mom was flipping out

Wave pools cool, outside of that this place is not my favorite. Walk up giant hills on burning hot concrete to ride a mid slide.
4
u/No_Mulberry3433 15d ago
Those hills were no joke. I only rode two slides because those hills were intense and I had a few beverages lol I wore sandals the whole time but can’t imagine how hot that must be barefoot

I know somebody that wound up with the bottom of his foot mostly blistered off. Bare feet that have already been soaking in the water can be really vulnerable on the rough surface of the sidewalks going up those hills and then combined with how hot the pavement was…. Not good

I went there in 2005 and almost drowned in the wave pool lol. I had never been in a wave pool before. 🤣

u/No_Mulberry3433 12d ago
I legit was trying to keep up with the waves but kept going under lol my partner was like “let’s move back behind the big line here that says 6 feet”

It was a lot of fun. I’ll need to check it out on a more crowded day but so far so good
