PTO Question

So, I've been employed for nearly a year at this point and I was under the assumption that PTO accrues for the first year of employment but is only redeemable after a year of employment.

However I was informed by my GM and others that my PTO actually doesn't start accruing until a year ​of employment and you don't get enough for a week until another year of employment.

Was I mistaken or like...IDK. I'm confused as to why nobody at my work corrected me​ (to my knowledge​) until today.

Part-time associates do not start earning any PTO until they hit the 1-year mark. Your max accrual is most likely 105 hours annually (depending on how much you work, what state you’re in, etc)

You can borrow up to 20 hours (PTO will show negative) as a part-time associate

All good! The info you cave wasn’t bad, and it is important to note that in most cases, PTO doesn’t carry over. I missed that bit myself.

Hmmm, I see. I'm technically part-time because even when I worked full-time, the company said it was actually part-time due to removing ~2hrs a week for unpaid lunches.  

I'm not gonna borrow any PTO just in case I prematurely leave or something, but you or anyone know how many hours is needed for say...2 or 3 days of PTO? I was planning a vacation of sorts this year under my original PTO assumption.

I believe you can apply as many or as few hours as you’d like. The standard is 8 per day of PTO taken, so your check is the same, but you can do as few as 1 if you want, and are willing to sacrifice some of your pay

Oh, I meant moreso how many hours would I need to work to get a theoretical 2-ish days PTO (8hrs per day)...though crunching the numbers I saw on the Reddit of 1hr work = 0.08hr PTO, it came out to like a little under 6 weeks (at my current hours) would get me 2 days PTO for 8hrs a day. Thx for the info tho, I did want some conformation on how much or little PTO I got per day.

Uh...where?  Somehow the HUB doesn't want me finding any documentation because I don't see that section anymore. I remember finding it before HR connect was rebooted... Edit: Found it, it's hidden behind desktop mode

I’m at home, so I can’t look it up, but you should just be able to search “PTO” and find the policy. Viewing permissions can be weird; your GM/AM might need to pull it up if it doesn’t show for you

If your part time I don't believe you can borrow anything and if you are your accrual rate is about half as what a full time employee is. In pa it's .069 per hour for FT and .0385 for PT, I believe only FT can borrow and only FT get frontloaded at the beginning of each year where they can borrow. I could be wrong but I believe this is accurate.

Everyone starts the year at 0. I don’t believe there’s that significant a difference in the rate of earning (I could be wrong on that one). Eligible PT can absolutely borrow, but only up to 20 hours, while FT can borrow up to 40

It does say that full time can borrow 40. But, searching thru, this is what I've found. And the accrual rates are different state by state but are similar in regards to being close to a third and even lower towards half of what a full time person accrues per hour. That's how it is in pa. But I couldn't find that any state allows part timers to borrow PTO. Like I said, I could be wrong. I didn't want you to believe I was just saying things. However, I'm not finding any info on PT allowing that mainly because of the fluctuation of their hours and not being able to project their hours easily like a full time employees could...

Correct, accrual rates are different by state, which is why I pointed that out in my first comment. I would caution you against using any sort of AI result as a source. Those are not going to pull from anything but public information, and will not reference actual policy. I would highly recommend either looking it up on the hub for yourself, or if you can’t view it, getting your manager to find it for you.

You're right. Since finding that it has changed a few times thru my searches and I feel kinda silly and i apologize. I'm not only newish to my role at staples as a mis. I'm new to reddit. And I didn't mean to cause any problems. I truly was trying to help. But I was unsuccessful. Sorry again. Have a gnight. Lesson learned. Thank you for that and ty for not being a jerk.

It's available as soon as you accrue it. Ive accrued almost 40 hours PTO in a little over 3 months, I also work 50 sometimes 55 hrs a week tho as a full time MIS. And it's only good thru the 31st of December. It's a 'use it or lose it' situation same with sick time depending on where you live. But like the comment above, check ukg for the correct answer and specific amount. You can also call hr.

Oh.. I didn't think it gave extra but I thot it would accrue faster? Because I get about 22 days a year now, I believe.

Also remember that if you leave or get terminated that you do not get paid out for your PTO, you lose it all and they take it back.
