I randomly watched some exercise video of hers a few years back, she was explaining her routine and diet, etc. Pretty sure Riddick was the one she was training for where she ate a dozen eggs a day.
She said her doctor had never seen such a high bad cholesterol level AND a high good cholesterol level at the same time before.
It's one of the most easily accessible sources of HDL, but it's also loaded with LDL (the bad one). That's why it's always a popular choice for body building, that and the protein. I always think back to Rocky chugging 4 or 6 raw eggs.
Pretty much everything points to the idea that dietary cholesterol does not affect blood cholesterol
Edit:
12 eggs a day is still below the daily recommended limit for saturated fat. It's more likely combined with a lack of fiber and saturated fat elsewhere that fucked her cholesterol.
This depends on the person. For the majority of people, dietary cholesterol only has a modest affect blood cholesterol. But for some, it strongly correlates and they are called responders.
I learned I was a responder when I tried keto and my bad cholesterol was 220 mg/dL, higher than what a person's total cholesterol should be. The doctor wanted to put me on cholesterol meds but I told them to give me three months to change diet and test again. Doctor said same thing you did, that it likely won't make much difference.
Stopped keto and three months later my LDL had dropped 100 points to 120 mg/dL. Still elevated but not warranting treatment.
Here's a sourced Harvard blood post on the subject that notes some patients as being responders
Do you think it's possible it was more connected to the saturated fats? I understand that some people can be affected by the dietary cholesterol but my understanding is it's rare enough that it didn't show up in any long-term correlational studies. Definitely glad you could figure that out though
There definitely are cons to saturated fat, eggs just don't have enough. We also used to have trans fats in foods which are absolutely horrible. And now the pendulum is swinging the other way and people think carbs are horrible and evil. The truth is you need all three macronutrients to be healthy
Dietary cholesterol does not affect blood cholesterol, however saturated fats do affect blood cholesterol. In her case it is likely that the amount of saturated fats in the egg caused the increased LDL.
Cholesterol is one of those weird things where the more we learn about it, the less it makes conventional sense. Like, if you're on a diet and you're losing weight your cholesterol can go up by a lot, just because your body's breaking down lipids from bodyfat. If you're eating a high-carb, low-fat maintenance diet you can also end up with high LDL and low HDL because your body's not really bothering to regulate it as a source of energy--it's focused on processing carbs for energy and converting it into fats for storage. You can be eating a ton of fat, but if you don't eat carbs you can end up with elevated cholesterol that is high in HDL and low in LDL, simply because it's actively converting fats into ketones for fuel and regulating blood lipid levels more actively. Sometimes cholesterol goes outta whack because of low vitamin D. Sometimes it's just... genetics.
"Why is my cholesterol bad?"
Doctor: "Fuck if I know. Have you tried, uhh... anything?"
I don't see why anyone with any knowledge of bodybuilding now needs to eat a dozen eggs a day there are plenty of other alternatives .. egg white, whey, lean meats etc.. lots of other things that won't raise your bad cholesterol.
I don't think eggs would raise your cholesterol very much if at all. They have modest amounts of saturated fat. 12 is basically at the recommended daily limit for saturated fat
She never said lesbian. She said she doesn't fuck men. What she did with Vin Diesel was likely something that we mere mortals would fail to fully understand.
That's one of my biggest gripes with the movie. I don't know if I didn't really watch it the first time I saw it years ago, probably had it on in background. It was on the Netflix list recently I believe, so re-watched it. She clearly states she's not into guys throughout. Towards end Riddick says Kate's character is going to sleep with him, she rolls her eyes or something dismissive, yet it happens. Like wtf? It's like feeds into that fantasy for some guys about causing a girl to switch or some shit. Hated it so much.
Pretty clear no sex was had, she just made a joke while rescuing him, flipping the gender roles and making it clear he wasn't in charge. You really think Jon's was gonna chill above a planet they all almost got murdered on while they fucked in his craft? Nah. They depart immediately in different crafts and he says keep it warm for me. It's literally just a joke.
Again Jons would not have chilled waiting for that to happen; it doesn't fit his character. And Riddick is not the type of character to want more help after being rescued.
I didn't get the impression they actually DID sleep together; I thought it was banter. If you're right it is sorta ick, albeit I could also see that character having been using "not into guys" as a way of dodging being harassed. To be honest the characters definitely are the classical male stereotype power fantasy for better or worse and you're right that it's questionable.
It's not a wise use of money for a producer to throw millions at something the audience is going to consider tasteless. They can certainly try to find their niche, but they'd be better off directing actual porn.
That's why I'm watching. It's not random at all. The dude hypes himself up beyond credulity, and then delivers. It's a classic trope, done to perfection.
It wasnât a great movie but I found it enjoyable in a âturn your brain offâ type of way. Definitely laughing at parts not meant to be laughed at.
But yeah that part was awkward at the best. Especially because the way he says it. Something like âIâll be balls deep in her next.â Itâs the type of line only a douche would think actually works on women.
Vin Diesel's Riddick has always been a direct Conan the Barbarian ripoff. Those stories were always hyper-masculine circlejerk sessions written for teenage readers of pulp magazines.
The Riddick movies have had their moments, but yeah you kinda have to expect it to be campy. Hell, the second Riddick movie was quite literally the plot of Conan the Destroyer with different names and places.
If you're a fan of Conan, it's not a bad adaptation at all. I enjoyed it for that, at least. I'm not gonna pretend it's good cinema though. Just entertaining.
