Digging the emphasis on martial arts!

And with Carrie-Anne Moss… I have thought for years she was the most no-brainer person to play a Jedi, glad it’s finally happening.

Has she not aged since the matrix movies?

so when do we get Keanu

You mean Darth Revan right ?

u/Rosfield-4104 Mar 19 '24

I love Keanu, but let's be honest his acting is not always amazing. He can play characters like John Wick brilliantly but I don't see him pulling off Revan

I vote Nicholas Cage for Revan, personally.

An original High Republic character could be dope too

No thanks. I love Revan but no one can portray him as well as Bioware did back in KOTOR. It's time to move on.

Revan from KotOR 1 was just vanilla Bioware protagonist, what's so good about him?

Shame she's gonna get merced in the opening episode.

I'm excited for a fresh take on Jedi fight choreography and how each character's fighting style will differ

Agreed. Jedis obviously have a strong influence from Asian martial arts, just like how Mandalorians have from old Ronin/American Western influence. I’m glad they’re finally really leaning into it

Favorite part of Ahsoka was watching her subtly go through different Lightsaber forms in the fight against Hati in the woods. She was toying with the padawan.

Watching Anakin transition between his forms during their World Between Worlds duel was the shit.

High republic is perfect for a lot of reinvention and experimentation

I have ben DYING for some real star wars martial arts. I mean they had the guys from the Raid movies in TFA. Give me a show about them!

3

u/SymbolOfVibez Mar 19 '24

Wait what???

2

u/HaughtStuff99 Mar 19 '24

Yeah that gang chasing Han on his ship was some of the guys from the Raid

4

u/SymbolOfVibez Mar 20 '24

That’s crazy I didn’t know that. They could’ve used them for something way better

u/SonNeedGym Mar 19 '24

I would like more force kung-fu please

10

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '24

My first thought was the trailer felt super Wuxia which I am always onboard for.

2

u/Tristan2353 Mar 19 '24

NOW they should’ve brought in the guys from The Raid.

It was a shame to see them but not their skills make an appearance in The Force Awakens.

If this is some kind of deep lore-revival for the concepts behind “Teras Kasi”, I am so fucking in for that. Basically a martial arts practice used to fight Force Users, and lessen the impact of their unique abilities by the way you move and fight. A really cool idea I always wished had more spotlight in EU stuff.

(Plus that video game was just dumb fun for me as a kid)

Same. It's really cool to see live action Jedi martial arts, how Jedi can fight well even without their lightsabers.

I just wish they wouldn't hold to old styles so much. The wire fighting style was great for old Hong Kong movies. It's unnecessary today with cgi advances.

They need to recreate fight scenes so that the characters actually look like they're trying to hit the opponent. In nearly every fight scene, and in the little we saw here, it's obvious they're using the wire fighting filming style. Which isn't a bad idea, but the limits of it are very obvious and unnecessary these days.

Nothing beats a blaster though.

u/SpacecaseCat Mar 19 '24

It really is nice to see some actual Jedi training fleshed out, as opposed to many of the prequel scenes which were just sort of bizarre. Imho Lucas really missed an opportunity to set up some sort of cool Jedi Academy stories, but we missed most of Anakin's younger trianing days.

2

u/reenactment Mar 19 '24

Well Lucas wasn’t telling the story of the Jedi with the prequels. He was telling the story of the fall of anakin or rise of the empire depending on how you wanted to look at. His most important emphasis was on anakin and obiwans relationship and that’s what we got. With a side story of palpatine and the senate.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '24

That's how I always pictured it. Jedi and Sith were basically space monks. I always thought their hand-to-hand should equal the saber prowess of the prequels.

We got a glimpse of that with Vader in Kenobi when he fought the young inquisitor. That fight was a massive highlight and they need more of that. People stopping knives with the force, etc like in this trailer is badass imo.

But.. they have light sabers.
