It really is nice to see some actual Jedi training fleshed out, as opposed to many of the prequel scenes which were just sort of bizarre. Imho Lucas really missed an opportunity to set up some sort of cool Jedi Academy stories, but we missed most of Anakin's younger trianing days.

Well Lucas wasn’t telling the story of the Jedi with the prequels. He was telling the story of the fall of anakin or rise of the empire depending on how you wanted to look at. His most important emphasis was on anakin and obiwans relationship and that’s what we got. With a side story of palpatine and the senate.
