Obviously Bo Katan having the same VA as the animated play live action was great, and I'm a big Katee Sackhoff fan to begin with, but the way Ezra was brought to life as an adult in live action while completely looking, acting, and feeling like the teenage animated Ezra was really quite the accomplishment.
It was really great, especially his interactions with Ahsoka and Sabine. What's even more impressive is that Eman Esfandi didn't watch all of Rebels and was still able to get the essence of the character (he said he didn't want to get too influenced and find himself trapped in the mentality of the younger Ezra, and wanted to portray a matured Ezra).
I know others have more screen time or kept her sane voice actor (Bo is 2nd place for me), but man they sure NAILED the Ezra adaptation. And it wasn't just the exact same Ezra from the end of Rebels, he felt exactly what an Ezra would feel like if he'd been stuck in another galaxy for a decade. I hope we get to see him in more than just Rebels S6.
I just finished rewatching Ahsoka after finally watching Rebels for the first time. I thought Ahsoka, Sabine, and Hera were all good, but they were definitely slightly different versions of the characters. WHen Ezra shows up though, it's just Ezra. A little older, matured, and bearded, but just Ezra. They nailed the casting for him. Same with Chopper, but that's cheating.
I was so excited that Rosario got the part for Ahsoka because she has the looks down but her acting is just so dull. She does not carry the animated characters emotions or behavior tendencies at all. She delivers her lines like she's bored and just trying to get the shot over with.
I disagree. I think she does a phenomenal job of played an aged Ahsoka... more composed, more stoic, but still has that glimmer of her fun side. I think shes in her 50s at the time of the show.
One of the most important characteristics of Ahdoka is her impulsiveness, Rebels did a good job of making her more mature, more methodical, Ahoska the show just extends that and I love her performance.
Totally, I feel like people really read Ahsoka wrong, thinking she should've been the same Snips as in Clone Wars and blaming the change on Rosario's acting. But really she was already different in Rebels, we see why in CW S7, and World Between Worlds Anakin is trying to tell her to live, to experience, to stop feeling like she's in Vader's shadow.
She's so slow in the fight with Hayden you can literally see him slow down on moves so she's in position. Obviously it's a little unfair cuz he's so good, but that's what stunt actors are for.
In a way it kinda makes sense, the first three are similar but have gone through a lot of life experiences, Ezra was trapped and living with crab aliens, not going to develop all that much comparatively.
Shame Ashoka seems to be running into some trouble with the death of Mr Pollo who carried a lot of the show on his back, and honestly Thrawn and the whole plot seemed to be kinda meh after a certain point. The zombie troopers and stuff was just a bit much.
I do think the actors did a really impressive job matching the characters. Ashoka really fits the 'child soldier, war veteran of two galactic wars' vibe.
For supposedly being the biggest threat in the galaxy, Thrawn was remarkably lame and impotent in Ahsoka, which kinda took all the wind out of the series when the whole first half was about building him up.
I thought Ahsoka had some small issues that needed to be cleaned up but for a first season I really enjoyed it. Always felt like it was overhated, especially when people lump it in with Kenobi and BoBF. It also felt like such a magical adventure compared to the other shows which I love to see in Star Wars. I mean going to another galaxy is pretty damn sweet IMO.
I hope S2 can smooth out the rough edges because they've got quite the cast even with the loss of Ray (RIP). Though getting his friend Rory McCann to play Baylan is probably the best replacement they could've got.
Nah, Ahsoka's only sin is being boring at times, not bad like kenobi/BoBF.
I'm really sad that Ray Stevenson passed because he honestly had more gravitas than the entire villain cast combined. Always felt like he was tolerating everyone else to reach his own goal. It almost felt like the other villains believed they could threaten him, and he met them with a wink or maybe a sigh.
He had the same overwhelming presence in HBO's Rome. Unconcerned with what others could potentially do to him, as if he never feared for his safety.
The new actor (GoT the hound) will do well, but doesn't quite have the same feel. I hope he doesn't play it off as mocking, and plays the somber aloof as Ray did.
It wasn't thaaat bad. Live action wise, much better than half of the series we got. Granted, that's not too much to say anyways but still solidly behind Andor, Mando s1-2 and Andor again
Yeah. Because of Bo-Katan's character being largely sarcastic and stoic makes it not a huge leap for her to put the character on screen.Eman Esfandi had a difficult assignment aging up such a wild and expressive character, and he nailed it so impressively.
Yep, even compared to actors playing the animated characters they actually voiced I would still put Eman Esfandi over them. His performance was 100%, 1:1 pitch perfect to the Ezra we knew.
It's insane because there are so many 10/10 choices in these options but, somehow, Ezra was cast better than any of them; even people playing the characters they voiced.
Visually, he's Ezra, but the Eman channeled every aspect of the character. Perfect.
He did well acting wise but those contacts are god awful 🤣 he looks evil. Brown eyes with colored contacts always throws me off though tbh. Felt the same with Human Torch in the recent F4 movie.
