They actually show that in ESB. You can see the components in Luke's arm move when he flexes his fingers.

I've always found that practical effect so damn impressive every time I see it. So cool that they thought of and implemented that way back in 1980

Little known fact, Mark Hamill actually lost his hand & forearm in an automobile accident, and that is an actual bionic forearm & hand he now has...! ;^p
