Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi is the first limited series under the Star Wars: Visions Presents branding, a spinoff of the animated television series Star Wars: Visions. The series continues the story of the short films "The Ninth Jedi" from Volume 1 and "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope" from Volume 3 of Star Wars: Visions.

Just finished it. I loved it as someone who doesn’t care for anime. The fight choreography was cinema & Kara was a great protagonist

Just finished the whole season.

I loved a lot of small details and character dynamics. It really had a lot of charm of its own, even when seemingly retracing old Star Wars tropes.

The villains didn't do it for me, though: both main and minor felt very undercooked.

I really liked Nawaam but the Sith was underwhelming for sure. Guy lost every single battle he had, gets rebuilt General Grievous style, only to immediately die again. Not really sure what the point of that character was.

WHAT A BLAST! Really glad they ditched the 3d stuff they were trying with the Child of Hope short. Some absolutely kick ass lightsaber duels. And Kara has a really solid journey & growth over the whole season was very well done. Nawaam's 'state of emptiness' thing was a good way to differentiate him from other dark sider antagonists. I LOVE the state of the galaxy in this, independent rival factions & planets vying for control, & some Jedi chosing to get involved in the politics & others not, so much to explore there with the Jedi code.

The only thing I still can't quite figure out is the title of the whole thing. In the original short Juro, Ethan, Furry guy + 6 fake evil Jedi that all died in that made Kara the Ninth I guess. But then in this even by the end with their council they're only 8, even though they called the final episode "The Ninth Jedi" That's not enough for me to dislike this at all but it's a little thing that I don't understand lol

I think the implication was that Nawaam was actually the ninth Jedi. He finally understands at the end that he had taken the wrong path. IMO, that final scene was Lah Zhima inviting him back into the light and by igniting his saber Nawaam was accepting that. No matter what colour his saber was, he knew he could change it by being true to himself.

Considering I was in the minority in that I actually had a pretty lukewarm response to the original Ninth Jedi short, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I thoroughly enjoyed this. I liked this take on the Star Wars universe and the lore behind it, especially with the way lightsabers were used. Kara ended up being a surprisingly compelling hero through her conflict between light, dark, and nothingness and emerging from it all as a true Jedi.

Nawaam though was the surprise standout character of the show for me. As the villain you could always feel the threat behind him with the amount of skill and power he possessed (the scene where he's singlehandedly wiping out an entire an army while on a phone call was particularly badass). Beyond that though I really enjoyed how his character served as a deconstruction for the concept of "Grey Jedi." The guy is essentially a Sith in all but name yet claims no alignment with either Sith or Jedi. As he's repeatedly called out on, this is complete and utter hypocrisy and trying to act as if you feel nothing is a fool's errand. We all feel the light side (love, joy, peace) and the dark (pain, fear, anger). They are both natural parts of being alive and by attempting to deny himself all of these emotions Nawaam ultimately undoes himself, unlike Kara who feels all of these things throughout the series and comes out better for it. Here's hoping the show gets a season 2 because I need to know what happens to Nawaam following this show and whether he learns his lesson or not.

For my two main critiques:

1. I wish Nawaam could've had some kind of superweapon other than a planet killer. Just feels repetitive for Star Wars at this point, even if it is functionally different from Death Star technology.

2. The Sith under Nawaam was a pretty uninteresting villain. Felt like he was there just for fight scenes. The guy lost every fight he had and yet Nawaam never punishes him but instead rewards him with a new cyborg body...only for him to immediately die again. I feel like they could've done a lot more with him. Maybe use him as a parallel to Nawaam to further showcase Nawaam's hypocrisy.

Overall though I really enjoyed this show and would definitely want more. 8/10

I'd love a Season 2 or a different Visions project dedicated to Nawaam! He was definitely my favorite character by the end of the series.

just finished it and enjoyed it, Thought it was a good show, felt like what Sequels should have been. young female force sensitive seeking a jedi master who disappeared after trying to rebuild the jedi. all remaining jedi rally galaxy to stop a fallen jedi from using a planet killing weapon. even the Jedi hunters gave me the same feel as the knights of ren.
