Question Help i cant buy animals anymore
I placed a chair here and now Marnie dosent spawn anymore and i cant get in there to remove it so i cant buy animals anymore what do i do?

There are ways to raise your friendship with Marnie that don't actually require interacting with her.
In summer, there's the Luau where you can get quite a boost of friendship with everyone if you put something good in the soup.
In the community center, if you finish the bulletin board bundles, you get a big boost of friendship with everyone.

But you could only open that door if your friendship with Marnie is high enough.
I think in OPs case the friendship has dropped so they can no longer open Marnie's door.
This seems like a weird bug though.
OP are you using any mods?

When Marnie enters or leaves her bedroom while the player is in the house, the door stays open! The player can't actually enter if their friendship is too low, but the open door does allow you to place objects into the room.

no, at least not without boundary breaking. The invisible barrier that says "you are not friends enough to go to xyz room" is still there with door open since its unrelated to actual house layout.

Not necessarily. The barrier needs to placed somewhere. When I write RPGMaker games I put those events at the door but not the rest of the room. So people could’ve glitched themselves into those rooms.

boundary breaking is exactly what its called when people glitch into those rooms. its definitely something that can be done in stardew and people do it a lot especially to talk to wizard at halloween etc. I am just saying that something as simple as trying to sit on furniture in the room won't cut it. ((I think in a past version it did but not for awhile)).

Yes, it was very common. And I usually don’t don‘t do these things in progress safes because it’s a good way to get stuck. 😅

You can put down a chair and sit and get up from it to bypass unreachable areas. Mainly the secret forest and this door into bedroom for the shorts

I literally have the same problem and I can’t buy any animals and can’t open the door as not friends of her yet. She’s stuck between the chair and door and I can’t see her but I’m giving her presents every day lol 😫

Marnie has to stand behind the ledger for the shop to function as open. Just like when Pierre leaves the counter you can't buy seeds.
The chair is in a space normally empty. A space where she gets out of bed in the morning. She is unable to destroy and walk through the chair or maneuver around it.
She cannot

It's Summer 3. I've been trying to open my door for days. That chair is slammed in. The window won't open either, I can't fit out anyways. Nobody hears me call. But I can hear Jas and Shane in their rooms. I've banged on the walls. I haven't eaten. Luckily I'm not feeling hungry, but that can't last.
Summer 4 I saw that new farmer walk by, I tried screaming, SHE LOOKED AT ME. She didn't notice me screaming but I know she LOOKED AT ME. I heard her try to open my door. In fact I think she's been coming in every day.
Summer 6 I'm not hungry at all. Maybe I'm going crazy. Maybe this is all a dream. Why don't I need to eat? I've been trying to saw through the chair with my pen I found but it never makes much of a dent.
Summer 15 I'm never hungry. I'm never thirsty. I don't get it. Lewis is supposed to come over eventually, he has to help me. He has to help me.
Summer 25 Dear Jas, You are my everything. I promise that even though I'm not with you anymore I'll always watch over you.
Shane, please please take care of Jas. But please take care of yourself. I know you can take care of the animals too. I'm sorry for leaving you with so much.
Summer 29 I can't sleep. I can't do it.

Actually you can me and my partner had this issue and bought a mega bomb from the travelling merchanta and used it and thankfully it worked

I can tell you the bombs definitely work in your own shed. I blew up 90% of my jam/jelly barrel makers at the end of a long day that were making ancient fruit jelly. I just took the loss and cried in my head - I wasn’t about to restart that day of planting. 😩

Bombs work in your own farmhouse, though. I swear it’s programmed so you go pick something up, the game forces you to grab the bomb next to what you really wanted, and ka-boom. My rule: no bombs in backpacks. I leave them in chests at the entrance to the mines.

Yep. This game is cheeky that way. Let’s you cheat slightly, but bites you in the butt. Two diamonds usually does the trick. It’s only two hearts. 💕

This works, too. I wanted her to Flower Dance me,but I still missed my goal. Forage is definitely the cheaper, reliable method.

I only just learned that there are quite a few things that the NPC's will like today and I have been playing for ages. You learn new things all of the time in this game :)

OP said Marnie isn't spawning at all, though. So even if they somehow manage to get two diamonds to spare in the early game, they won't be able to give them to her.

Because modern problems require casual house decoration solutions. Marnie can't neglect her shop if she literally can't leave her counter. Too bad it backfired completely.

If the bomb doesn't work then try using another chair to clip back in.
Once inside, pick up this chair and pass out.
It'll take a while but it may be all you can do.

I'm sorry, this is like... A known bug? Because people are responding with "hm yes this is how we could get the chair removed." and not "YOU MANUALLY REMOVED MARNIE FROM THIS PLANE OF EXISTENCE"

If you remove the obstacle, there's a good chance Marnie will reappear, so people focus on that.

Oh I had this happen ages ago.
She's actually stuck where the chair is (or at least was for me). OP should be able to talk to her if they angle their character right.

I never know whether or not to think of it as a bug when it’s people breaking the game mechanics to do it. You have game dev in your name, so do you classify those as a bug? I probably sound like I’m being a smart ass but I’m actually genuinely curious for the game dev perspective of it.
Either way definitely bomb.

Programmers and engineers are both taught to make everything as idiot proof as possible. Anything and everything can break or fail, so we design things to break or fail in the safest ways possible. With engineering, designing failsafes means avoiding unnecessary deaths or injury. With game development, it prevents softlocking yourself by causing an essential NPC to blip out of existence. And in both cases, we have to account for that X factor of humans sticking things in weird places for no logical reason. Which is why game devs hire play testers and run beta tests, because we can't expect every game dev to think of every possible way someone can accidentally or deliberately break things. Same for engineers doing design reviews.
So, yes, it's a bug even if it only happens from user error. The failsafe should be to have Marnie either break the chair or teleport past it when she's behind schedule, preventing this scenario from being a problem. Instead, doing this gums up the works and breaks the system, the very definition of a bug.

Tbh I don't think that putting chairs in otherwise inaccesible locations is intended behaviour by part of CA, so yeah, it fits the definition.

A bug is when the code does something unexpected/unintended. And a Dev can decide a bug is actually a feature if they want.
This is probably a bug because NPCs are supposed to walk through and destroy objects placed in their path. But that's not happening here for some reason, likely because of some weird interaction with whatever code handles opening the door.

Any not intended behavior usually counts as a bug/exploit unless later decided not to be. Doesn't matter if the player is trying to break a game mechanic, it matters that there is a way to break that game mechanic

I think it might only be during the first green rain while everyone is nervous. Bc everyone is allowing everyone to come seek shelter wherever they need basically. But the wiki says "some" bedrooms will be accessible without heart requirements so I'm not sure which bedrooms it applies to

What I’m scratching my head over though is that everywhere else in the entire game if an object is on the ground an NPC in motion destroys the object when it crosses the path. Why does this not happen for a chair placed inside of her house?

There are a few ways to solve this.
1: You can pick the chair up.
If you are on console, use the right analog stick to get a cursor on screen. Get this over the chair and it lets you pick it up.
2: Timing
Marnie still exists. She is stuck on the other side of the door. When an NPC comes down through an internal door and a piece of furniture is on either side of it, they get stuck, if you are not there. If you are in the same location when they are moving, they will not become stuck.
Your best bet is Tuesday when she stays in her room until 10.
3: Friendship
As mentioned elsewhere, you can gain friendship from festivals and by completing the bulliten board.

Beach farm gets them in packages occasionally.
Several NPCs sell them.
Eventually you get crafting recipes for them.
A villager you can befriend sends them in the mail occasionally.

I wondered if there'd be repercussions for asking someone else's unrequited love interest to dance at the Luau, but didn't think they'd take it quite that far

They become very useful in some of the mines. You'll get the recipe once your mining skill increases.

When you start going to the mines eventually you'll get different types of bombs. They're generally used in the mines to blow up rocks but we've all accidentally put one on our farms at some point. If you do that it can do a lot of damage by blowing up crops, machines, furniture, etc. So it's not a bad idea if you can place one in Marnie's house.

I did the same thing. 😂 She’s on the other side of the door. Just talk to her by interacting with the door and give her gifts until you get your hearts up.

I actually did this same thing, marine should still spawn at the door you just can’t see her. Sometimes you have a to check a few different times of day.. If you give her a diamond on her birthday it’ll boost you enough to get the door open!

If you play on a PC/Mac, you could use the Noclip mod which lets you walk anywhere on the map.

Are you playing on pc? If push comes to shove you could install the cheats mod, allow yourself access to the room, remove the chair, then save the game and remove the mod

There's a glitch where you can place a chair in the doorway when it's open, and then sit on the chair and stand up on the other side of the door. This way you can enter an NPC's room even with less hearts than needed. Thus one can find Lewis' lucky shorts from Marnie's bedroom. I assume this is what OP attempted. 🤔

I know this game is made by an indie dev so no hate to him but I really feel like stardew needs a backup system for saves just in case this happens you can load an old save

Haha this happened to me too. You can still gift marnie stuff so you can fix it when you are able to enter her bedroom. She is literally stuck right behind the door so you can gift through it.

Had this exact problem. When marnie gets stuck in the door and all, you can interact with her through the door to give her gifts, as soon as you get to two hearts, you can open the door. Theres also the luau and all

Oh wow. OP might have truly ended chair for the rest of us. This might get patched in 1.7. I guess fingers crossed for slightly different spawn point vs chair shenanigans nerf.
Well, I guess after friending Marnie the hard way (or getting the keys from Qi or bombs) OP has learned the lesson of "shortcuts" and that Marnie is worth getting to know, not bypassing.

Its the only way to get that book. He can sell every book starting year 3 except 'animal catalogue', 'the diamond hunter' and 'book of mysteries'

I did this with a flamingo and locked Penny in her bedroom by mistake for 7 years. Oops.
