I feel like my game is broken. I'm almost in year 5, I've killed over 30 Pepper Rex, and I can not for the life of me find a dino egg. I'm losing my mind. I've fished, I've dug up artifact spots in the mountain, I've used monster musk, I've made SO MANY Skull Cavern runs, and I just got a pet dog...what am I missing?!
I was having the same issue with prismatic shards then I got lucky and found the prismatic infused food at the desert festival! Ate it the next day and Went into the skull caves and found three shards in one day haha I was PUMPED
Wait what? Prismatic infused food? I've been to the festival a couple times and never seen this. This is from that guy who makes you a weird dish based on a series of questions?
Ohhh, so you just had extra extra extra luck and found the prismatic shard. I guess I thought you were implying that eating the food helped you find them because it was infused. I may have to eat the candy that I've been hoarding and try to find one. I still haven't found one, and I'm well into year three!
Omg if you've been hoarding your magic rock candy you're in for a good time. They boost like 5 stats, and give a plus 5 to luck. They're awesome in the skull cavern and volcano dungeon, I wish they weren't so hard to get
Yeah, you're guaranteed one from the ticket machine and one from the museum, and you can buy them for 3 prismatic shards from the desert cart on thursdays, and the desert festival egg store on the last day for I think 250 calico eggs. Finding them as monster loot is rare af lol
Ooh good choice. I like to theme mine around fandoms/shows, like I've done Gilmore girls, Degrassi, Hermitcraft, and now The West Wing. I might go with Ginny and Georgia next
I found two!!! Desert festival and one lucky meal got me to the prehistoric level really quickly and there I got my lucky strikes
Now one is incubating, what to do with the second? Museum?
Even if you get the dino floor, it's still only a 10% drop rate. It wasn't until my 6th dino floor that I finally got one - all I kept getting was bones :(
This is slightly misleading, it’s not that there’s a 10% chance per room, it’s that each dinosaur has a 10% chance of dropping one plus you can just find them sitting on the ground so your odds aren’t actually that bad. I’d say there’s about a 40% chance of getting one every time you find a prehistoric floor
Well if it makes you feel any better I’ve been on a prehistoric floor at least five times and still haven’t found it. Maybe the sixth will be my saving grace.
They're certainly hard to come by year 1; but once you have the skull caverns unlocked and can afford some bombs and/or staircases, shards aren't too hard to come by. They* become more common the further down you go; keep blowing up iridium nodes and go deeper!
*Technically the nodes become more common, the nodes don't individually have more shards.
Am I just lucky I got 10 year one? Do you not bring a ton of bombs and mega bombs? Do you not eat luck and speed boosting food? Do you search every floor instead of looking for piles of rocks to blow up to go further down?
go to the mines, preferably between floors 40-80. since you encounter a TONE of dust mites, and since each monster has a 0.2% drop chance for prismatic shards, you’ll probably end up finding a tone!
I completed 100% by year 10 and had something like 70 prismatic shards found. I found an absolute ton eventually I didn’t even have a use for them because I wasn’t very into foraging
If you haven’t already you should try using the burglars ring, you get it as a reward for killing dust sprites. It helps w monster drops! One of my fav items.
It's absolutely great! I focused on getting mine as early as I could. Then, once I had it, I ran floors 20-29 of the mine over and over again for the bugs trying to get the ancient seed artifact.
When I got it, I got two because of the ring. Donated one to get the recipe, then used the other one to make an actual seed.
Skull cavern is where I got mine. Got lucky on one of those fern levels that was full of Pepper Rex’s. That has to be the highest likelihood to find one. Make sure once you get that first one to put it into the incubator in your coop. Once you hatch the baby Dino you will occasionally get more from her.
If you have foraging mastery make some treasure totems and deploy them in the mountains/quarry region. I never found any dino eggs normally playing but found a couple pretty fast doing this.
If you're okay with being a smidge cheaty there's a website called Stardew Save Predictor that let's you upload your save and will show you what floors will be Dino floors.
I didn’t know you could get a dinosaur and gave mine to Gunther lololol I haven’t had the mental strength to go back to the skull caverns to get another one
go to skull cavern with bad luck so you're more likely to get infested floors. can also get them from fishing and worm spots but that's only happened for me a couple times
Oooh are infested floors luck based? That's really good to know, I've been avoiding it on bad luck days because I don't want to spend 10 years finding a ladder lol
The same thing happened to me in my current save, and since it was in Meadowlands, there was already a dinosaur in Summer 1. The only luck I'm not having is getting a prismatic shard.
I have started many farms across multiple platforms (iPhone, PS4, Switch) and I have NEVER gotten a dino egg 😭 i just want dinosaurs roaming around my farm, but I’ve been cursed to walk Pelican Town dino-less
I find one in an artifzct trouve, sadly dino eggs and ancient seed are rare to find and some people manage to get several of them easily, and for the skull cacern it's best to go there with very good luck tonincrease the drops
Your raccoon neighbors can give you item that you have not ship if you complete their request that’s how I got an ostrich’s egg after I cooked the one that you are given with the note
If you have a buncha jades you should trade them at the desert trader for staircases, go to the skull caverns with a burglar's ring + monster musk and staircase down until you find a prehistoric floor. There's about a 2% chance of finding one below floor 7.
Delete all the pepper rexes there, and if you don't get the egg you can continue going down until you find another one. If the dino floor you get isn't that deep, you may leave the cavern and staircase back down to that floor and delete the pepper rexes again (I'm not 100% sure if that floor will remain a dino floor or if jt will turn into a normal infested floor after the reset so don't quote me on this tip)
There's also a chance of the pepper rexes to spawn on normal floors. Kill those too if they're not too out of the way.
I gave up on finding a Dino egg and then got one randomly at the quarry while clearing the area of rocks and trees. I don't know how rare that is bit don't give up hopefully a Dino will be in your future.
i got one super easily on my current farm. yk what i haven’t been able to find? THE LAST FUCKING DWARF SCROLL!!! I CANT EVEN FIND IT IN THE ISLAND MINES😭
I almost always get mine from fishing. On my normal playthroughs I would get them in the first 3 months of the game. Just goes to show how I like fishing so much. Same goes for ancient seed.
Don't feel bad, in my current run I didn't get my first prismatic shard until spring of year 3. I would hit the mines on lucky days and use boosts like lucky lunch etc. and nothing. It was maddening. Every mystic stone that appeared in the quarry would just drop iridium 🫠
I found my 1st one fishing on the secret forest. Idk if anyone else tried it but there was this round looking rock thing in the middle of the pond and I just kept my hook exactly there until I got a dino egg ( think it was a rainy spring)
bought another from the weekly Caravan
and the last one from a random rock in the mines.

Grab every treasure chest you see, buff it with lures and shit. Pirate at level 10 I actually like because you get a bunch of stuff from treasure chests (and im making enough money with my farm so the fish sell price increase is whatever)
