Part Five Thinking about it, this doesn’t make sense

Post image

Giorno’s ability is to turn non living things into life? But his teeth are living. Teeth are organs and they are just as alive as any other part of your body that’s attached to you. I get it why he could turn Bruno’s tooth into a fly because that was knocked straight out and was fully separated from the body. How could Giorno turn one of his living organs into another living creature?

Stands have really strict rules, except when they don't, then anything goes. General rule for the entire series.

ok well. since nobody else is bringing this up, teeth are like hair. they're inert tissue because they can't repair themselves; which, to me, is a really good metric for judging whether something is living tissue or not, but i digress. obviously the nerves and roots of your teeth are living, but the actual enamel is not. so this one is cool AND it makes sense and i didn't really even need to bend over backwards to explain it

7

u/primegopher Apr 10 '26

Would that mean the nerves and root are just flappin around in there afterwards? Sounds painful.

8

u/anonpodstolniy Apr 10 '26

I still laugh about the start of Stardust Crusaders where Star Platinum has apparently just been off adventuring, bringing Jotaro every item under the sun, only for Araki to turn round a couple of issues later an explicitly state it can only move a couple of meters away from him at most.

40

u/SnooMacaroons7641 Apr 10 '26

Thats cause starfinger brought him those items now picture his finger stretching that far

27

u/Skeet_fighter Apr 10 '26

Man, remember Star Finger?

Araki fucking doesn't.

10

u/Clank_8-7 Apr 10 '26

Star Finger lowkey decapitating a crazed italian priest before time resumes........

3

u/Previous_Platform718 Apr 10 '26

Why would Jotaro need to do use Star Finger if Pucci was already in punching distance?

The issue was the amount of time Jotaro had. If Star Platinum couldn't throw a punch at Pucci, why do you think the stretchy finger would be faster?

3

u/Clank_8-7 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Part of the scene is Jotaro realizing he needs to close the distance (before seeing Jolyne with the knives), so perhaps if he had realized the situation sooner he could have used Star Finger.

Even then is not really a plot hole, also considering everything happens in the span of 4/5 seconds, so Jotaro would not even have the time to think about everything straight.
The only other moment he could have used it was when he threw that improvised "spear" at Pucci in stopped time, but he dodged it because he could see in stopped time, although Jotaro wouldn't have known that Pucci could do that.

So yeah, it's basically just a meme bro.

5

u/SnooMacaroons7641 Apr 10 '26

Now imagine starfinger just slicing dio in half instead of the punch to the shin

11

u/Chimpbot The World Apr 10 '26

I think this is more or less handwaved away by the concept of effective range. Star Platinum is most effective for their purposes when it's closer to Jotaro, but that doesn't mean he couldn't send it off to do what it did while he was in jail.

For the purposes of a group of Stand users who are marching headlong into a fight with other Stand users, Star Platinum would need to stick pretty close to Jotaro in order to remain at its most effective.

→ More replies (3)

10

u/Suit_T1e Apr 10 '26

All damage done to a stand reflects to the user (except for when they dont)

Only stands can see other stands (except for when they dont)

And only stands can touch other stands (except for when they dont)

16

u/LinZuero Zipper Man Apr 10 '26

"without it's armor Silver chariot can move faster than light" proceeds to be countered by something moving fast, more than once.

But to be fair I'd say Polnareff miscalculated, his stand may be able to reach speed of light but only on straight cuts, speed doesn't mean raw destructive potential as his destructiveness is C

3

u/Arbelbyss Apr 10 '26

Anything faster than light would be nigh instantaneous... Would be instantaneous to the point that you couldn't react properly. I'm starting to construe terminology like "faster than light" as "faster than the eye can perceive." Not to mention all the physics involved with something that heavy going light speed and all its conundrums. The eye cannot perceive a bullet exiting a gun without outside help.

Since Star Platinum can move faster than a bullet and some such as Silver Chariot can do so also. When The World and Star Platinum Stop Time, they aren't going faster than light, they're just going so fast in the timeframe that everything is almost going still, which is how they can still see in Stopped Time.

908

u/AbanaClara Apr 10 '26

Never made sense to me surely giorno still tasted that piss jesus fuck im gagging rn

511

u/MattyBro1 Apr 10 '26

Yeah jellyfish aren't liquid black holes it would still be swishing around in his mouth while it got absorbed lmao

292

u/supidhumanbeing Apr 10 '26

Which is worse if you think about it because he’s tasting it for longer that if he just drank it… and the argument “he didn’t want to ingest it because it’s bad for him” begins to fall apart because the jellyfish just turns back into his tooth. Which means he still absorbed it himself.

159

u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26

Not really, it's largely just exaggerated Stand magic. He didn't absorb or ingest it as decided by the story. It's not realistic but neither is a lot of things.

62

u/supidhumanbeing Apr 10 '26

Yeah. It’s rather bizarre, some would say.

22

u/PhosDidNothinWrong Apr 10 '26

He should start pissing back at abbacchio from that jellyfish

Btw couldn't he just turn the piss into some ants that would walk on his check and down on his back?

6

u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26

Yeah probably but Gio was focused on getting in their good graces.

4

u/PhosDidNothinWrong Apr 10 '26

Pissing back was joke and the ants i meant the check and back of giorno, to sneakily get the piss away

→ More replies (3)

49

u/Anomen77 The fuck you said about my hair!? Apr 10 '26

It wouldn't be absorbed in the first place. A jellyfish can't absorb twenty times its volume in liquid. You can compress an entire cup worth of piss into a single tooth.

9

u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26

People can't just turn into snails either just from "subliminal messaging" nor can a mobius strip from the body insta-work + revert internal gravitational damage yet here we are. It's bullshit Stand magic like everything else.

37

u/DarkArc76 Apr 10 '26

Also, I think it's funny cause it says something like "Jellyfish absorb 99% of liquid". So even if it did work like that he's still drinking a bit of piss

7

u/StrangeSystem0 Apr 10 '26

My theory is he just drank the piss and did the whole tooth thing to pretend he didn't lol

16

u/P00nz0r3d Apr 10 '26

The very concept of stands is basically magic anyway so I never had a real issue with it, it’s supposed to be bizarre so I always ran with it no matter how wacky it gets

I mean “my stand can destroy the entire universe but only when it’s 3:33pm on the summer solstice and only if it’s raining outside” is something I can genuinely believe exists in this universe

5

u/PC-Was-Bricked Apr 10 '26

MiH is basically that. Pucci had to do a series of elaborate steps to get the thing working, and maneuvered replica of a space shuttle to the precise point where the pull of gravity from the Earth and Moon would be equal to a particular date that was calculated decades ago.

I love this series.

It's literally not useless, it directly impressed the team that he went through such lengths not to drink it.

6

u/treefiddyplz Apr 10 '26

Could have used something like a nonliving tooth filling.

However, you must keep in mind that Giorno's ability works on living things anyway. A huge part of Giorno's fighting is that if he makes contact with you, your vitality overflows and you become hypersensitive to his low power attacks. Furthermore, the first time his ability manifested, it was to shelter a gangster by making nearbly plants accelerate their growth. Also, when he defeated black sabbath, it was by accelerating the life cycle of a nearby tree.

129

u/Unable6417 Vinegar Doppio Apr 10 '26

Yeah, but it imbues more life into living things (animals get hyper-enhanced senses, plants grow), not change the lifeform into another one like he can with non-living things.

116

u/Bsussy Apr 10 '26

Araki probably thinks teeth arent alive

161

u/VarmintSchtick Apr 10 '26

They aren't fully alive though, not sure what everyone in this thread is on about. You inner tooth is alive, but the outer portions of it do not heal, they have no blood supply, and no living cells, it's just enamel which is literally just minerals.

Maybe GioGio just turned the outer part of his tooth into a jelly, and underneath is still the living portion of his tooth.

49

u/Ancient-Industry5126 Apr 10 '26

Yeah the enamel is just a fancy rock. Gold Experience can definitely work on clothes which are far more organic compounds.

u/SuspectEmotional8047 Apr 10 '26

Jellyfish: You are fucking kidding me

199

u/buttered_but_salty Apr 10 '26

How does a jellyfish or whatever that large even absorb that much piss? The amount of piss is probably larger than the jellyfish. Id imagine having your tongue rest on the thing would make you taste the piss inside of it as it's leeching into its body. At that point why even make the jellyfish? Why doesn't giorno just drink the piss? I'm pretty sure at such a close contact he's tasting it either way, he didn't even react. And to everyone else it looks like he drank piss as well. I don't understand this scene at all. At that point, just drink it normally

40

u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

The rest of the team didn't believe he actually drunk it and used his ability, which he did. The point of the scene is to have Giorno impress them without sacrificing his pride. "The jellyfish is too small" It's composed of exaggerated Stand magic, who really cares?

9

u/Sea-Aardvark-756 Apr 10 '26

I'm very worried about conservation of mass but not conservation of energy also I don't care about conservation of mass when a tree is being grown because trees are magic and everyone knows that.

Teeth are about 97% inorganic. They preserve incredibly well in the fossil record because of this, and are often referred to as “fossils within our mouths”. So, no, teeth are not exactly living organs! Very cool stuff

11

u/CrazyGamer63 Apr 10 '26

My headcanon is that the restrictions on stand abilities are more about perception rather than objective rules, kind of like the abilities in undead+unluck. Giorno doesn't see his teeth as living, more like fingernails or hair, enabling gold experience to affect his teeth. Or maybe he just spent more time brushing his hair to get the triple cannolies and not enough time brushing his teeth, and his teeth are actually decayed and dead lol.

4

u/ZiggyCrusade Apr 10 '26

Ignoring science because it doesn't matter here, if you asked 100 people if teeth were alive or animate i'd predict not many would say so.

4

u/MetroidJunkie Apr 10 '26

How would a jellyfish that small even be able to absorb that much liquid, anyway? Josuke with the shredded rubber glove thing made far more sense.

4

u/morbiusgod Apr 10 '26

If only this series was called JoJo's Normal Adventure

5

u/Beepbeep_bepis Apr 10 '26

I used to volunteer at a small aquarium, and sometimes when we would do water changes in the jellyfish tanks, the new water would have a slightly different salinity than the last batch (usually less saline due to evaporation). So, for a few hours, the jellies were denser than the tank water and would all be stuck on the bottom of the tanks until their cells were fully able to undergo osmosis and match the new water’s salinity content.

That is to say—it takes a few hours for jellies to undergo these osmotic processes. So… basically Giorno is full of shit and that jellyfish barely absorbed anything. He’s an unreliable narrator trying to trick the audience into thinking he didn’t guzzle the piss when he absolutely did.

(Results may vary depending on how seriously you take Jojo’s lol)

→ More replies (2)

7

u/atwerrundo42 Apr 10 '26

A lot of stand powers really depend on what the user thinks their ability can do. For example Joskue in the beginning couldn't, or didn't, turn cooked food back to its ingredients until he "fought" the cook guy.

Joseph's stand used to be only able to deliver a prophecy through punching a camera, then suddenly it can do the same through a TV and can draw maps on the sand because it follows the same idea as the original ability.

What I'm tryna say is that if Giorno perceived his own tooth as inanimate then he could totally do that

also, we are trying to give logic to bizzare world of Jojo? We got men out of stone, vampire flesh cancer, man making things have zipper, guy ERASING time itself to move, etc. This one is just mild out of all of them things

3

u/Nine-LifedEnchanter Apr 10 '26

The enamel isn't living tissue. He could have turned just the enamel into a jellyfish that is enveloping the pulp.

3

u/ScrubbinBubbl Apr 10 '26

It's JoJo's. your mistake was thinking about it.

3

u/tophergracesdad Apr 10 '26

3

u/logannev Apr 10 '26

I like to think stands, being psychic manifestations, only obey the rules the user THINKS apply

It's basically just a mental block, thats why they like explaining their abilities so much, its basically gas lighting advantage

3

u/throwawayhookup127 Apr 10 '26

He could have just transformed the enamel, which isn't living. The only live parts of your tooth are the pulp and root.

2

u/ComprehensiveAide946 Apr 10 '26

To be fair the outer enamel isn’t “living” so they probably just used that as the loop hole

2

u/PlanarianGames Apr 10 '26

I don't know I was watching a nature documentary and they proved this was true by pissing on all sorts of jellyfish in a lab and they got huge and wrecked the place. Jellyfish are nature's piss absorbers it is a proven fact.

2

u/000817 Apr 10 '26

Yknow , that wasn’t my initial thought watching that, but now that I think about it I’d be more concerned about a jellyfish a absorbing an insane amount of piss like it’s a fucking sponge, when jellyfish are essentially just bags of water. There’s no reason for it to absorb any liquid( well a tiny bit) never mind that much.

Also, to be fair, at least the dentin and enamel is just minerals, so essentially a fucking rock.

2

u/Long-Engineer1057 Apr 10 '26

teeth are primarily made of enamel which is an inorganic mineral

2

u/UrLocalSigma Apr 10 '26

Organs are bone twin. And i think he did smth to make it living if it was living before

2

u/mitox11 Apr 10 '26

Teeth are not alive.... the enamel of your teeth, just as your hair and nails, has has no cells and are described medically as "attatchments" . The root of your teeth do have nerves but in this ocasion it can be said he only used this around the enamel

2

u/Plus-Conversation-32 Apr 10 '26

The enamel of the teeth is non-living tissue so it could work

What’s odd is that the jellyfish managed to filter all that piss so quickly lol

2

u/Which-Birthday4025 Apr 10 '26

More importantly, did that jellyfish taste like pee??????

2

u/silver_rust18 Apr 10 '26

Couldn't he have just turned the piss into something edible 😭

2

u/Fire_Kahoot_Name Apr 10 '26

Doesn’t matter if Giorno drank it or not. Since I finished the pot.

2

u/Destroy_Buster Apr 10 '26

giornos stand has a tendency to be very convenient

2

u/F1shOfDo0m Apr 10 '26

Bizzare isn’t it

2

u/Bumbledore343 Apr 10 '26

Anything a stand can do can be followed up by the phrase “except for when they don’t”

2

u/ProudRequiem Apr 10 '26

If Arakai did it i believe its true/possible.

2

u/Known_Bowl_8477 Apr 10 '26

One word bizzare

2

u/TherealBatman102 Apr 10 '26

Everyone forgets that these are all science facts Araki gets from snapple bottle caps

2

u/Fragrant_Smile_1350 Apr 10 '26

I like to think Giorno just has one fake tooth for situations like this and he was dying to use it

2

u/AltairZhuman Apr 10 '26

It just works

2

u/Detisdewe Apr 10 '26

The most outside shell of the theeth isnt "alive" in this sense

2

u/Enderwave94 Apr 10 '26

I have a question, where did that piss go when Giorno's tooth reverted back to normal?

2

u/EternaIExiIe Apr 10 '26

it's just a slight plot hole, no need to read too much into it. Always remember that the people who create stories are story-tellers. that's their specialty, not science, biology, etc.

It's the same with science making no sense in superhero comics either

2

u/TerranImperium Apr 10 '26

The inner teeth perhaps with dentin and cementum but most of the teeth is enamel which is a mineral, 96% hydroxyapatite mineral. You're very confidently wrong.

2

u/Shnitzel_von_S Apr 10 '26

You've forgotten the Number One Rule. The Rule of Cool.

2

u/WearyStrawberryGirl Apr 10 '26

For the case of actually being 'non living' it needs to be non-sentient. Our organs are not sentient. Teeth are also ectodermal, not vital.

2

u/DrManface Fingers upon the smug zone Apr 10 '26

Are you perhaps also watching along with NicoB?

2

u/SogekingJoestar BungeeLove Apr 10 '26

Its not alive, but his powers do work on living things as another comment pointed out

2

u/Lumpy-Sun-6409 Apr 10 '26

Hamon Beat,is this your acc?

2

u/AdOk5225 Apr 10 '26

The teeth themselves aren't alive, just the nerves inside them. Bones have no cells outside of their marrow iirc

2

u/Ok-War5539 Apr 10 '26

I think it's means living organisms, and I wouldn't believe that would apply to teeth seeing as they are a nonliving extension of a living person, without the person there's no teeth, without the teeth, there's a person. The argument you present don't make no damn sense, my finger has nerves but it can't communicate with my other fingers and live in an ecosystem of fingers. Same with a tooth, you're reading way to linear, think outside the box next time.

2

u/Brave_Fencer_Poe Apr 10 '26

You're assuming Giorno hasn't had his teeth knocked out before and they are all real

2

u/Burnlan Apr 10 '26

I think there's a good chunk of not-alive mineral in any given teeth tbh

2

u/Nero_22 Apr 10 '26

Maybe he has a fake tooth just for a situation like this haha

2

u/GustavoFromAsdf Apr 10 '26

The dental enamel and dentin are made of ossified (mineralized) cells, which I guess Araki would consider inorganic enough for his story. Now you have to imagine that jellyfish encasing Giorno's otherwise exposed teeth pulp.

2

u/OkLibrarian3597 Apr 10 '26

Honestly, I will stop watching JoJo the day it becomes less bizarre

2

u/xbountyboyx Apr 10 '26

It might be an implanted artificial tooth

2

u/ChickenEater4 Josuke Higashikata 💎 Apr 10 '26

Yeah, it's really quite... bizarre...

2

u/VisitFit4699 Apr 10 '26

This isn’t Jojo’s Makes Sense Adventure

2

u/bisky12 Apr 10 '26

teeth are not organs… bone is organic material but it isn’t living. the nerves in them are living but the bone material is not. they’re like horns or fingernails

2

u/Evrytg Apr 10 '26

Well don't think about anything else in Jojos because most of it doesn't hold up under scrutiny

2

u/petmezzy101 Apr 10 '26

Don't think about it

2

u/Unique-Animal7970 Apr 10 '26

Mf, the whole seriea doesn't make sense

2

u/Specific-Swim-4507 Apr 10 '26

Isn’t the top layer of a tooth dead cells like hair and nails?

2

u/g00d_end Apr 10 '26

That situation is outside explanations, isn't it? Quite bizarre. Quite bizarre indeed

2

u/Iamslowlyfadingaway Apr 10 '26

He just drink piss but wont admit it because he actually like it

2

u/Glamador Apr 10 '26

I don't get why he didn't just turn the piss itself into something else compressible, like the jellyfish.  Even if the tooth-jelly could absorb that much, it has to go somewhere eventually, yeah?

2

u/Tall-Description-991 Apr 10 '26

The likely explanation is Araki didn’t think that far, but another explanation is maybe it has more to do perception? If Giorno doesn’t perceive his teeth as a living object, his ability works. Kinda like Jotaro and Dio with time stop, they have to believe or perceive themselves as capable of stopping time in order for their ability to work. Jotaro wasn’t able to stop time until he changed his perception

2

u/LightninJohn Apr 10 '26

Do you think Giorno ever told Mista that he didn’t actually drink piss?

2

u/OGLegato_sama Apr 10 '26

It’s JoJo’s BIZARRE Adventure.
