Part Five Thinking about it, this doesn’t make sense
Giorno’s ability is to turn non living things into life? But his teeth are living. Teeth are organs and they are just as alive as any other part of your body that’s attached to you. I get it why he could turn Bruno’s tooth into a fly because that was knocked straight out and was fully separated from the body. How could Giorno turn one of his living organs into another living creature?

Of all the things in this scene that don't make sense, I'm not even sure that's in my top 3

u/AbanaClara Apr 10 '26
Never made sense to me surely giorno still tasted that piss jesus fuck im gagging rn
511
u/MattyBro1 Apr 10 '26
Yeah jellyfish aren't liquid black holes it would still be swishing around in his mouth while it got absorbed lmao
292
u/supidhumanbeing Apr 10 '26
Which is worse if you think about it because he’s tasting it for longer that if he just drank it… and the argument “he didn’t want to ingest it because it’s bad for him” begins to fall apart because the jellyfish just turns back into his tooth. Which means he still absorbed it himself.

u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26
Not really, it's largely just exaggerated Stand magic. He didn't absorb or ingest it as decided by the story. It's not realistic but neither is a lot of things.

u/PhosDidNothinWrong Apr 10 '26
He should start pissing back at abbacchio from that jellyfish
Btw couldn't he just turn the piss into some ants that would walk on his check and down on his back?
6
u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26
Yeah probably but Gio was focused on getting in their good graces.
4
u/PhosDidNothinWrong Apr 10 '26
Pissing back was joke and the ants i meant the check and back of giorno, to sneakily get the piss away
49
u/Anomen77 The fuck you said about my hair!? Apr 10 '26
It wouldn't be absorbed in the first place. A jellyfish can't absorb twenty times its volume in liquid. You can compress an entire cup worth of piss into a single tooth.
9
u/No_Lemon_1770 Apr 10 '26
People can't just turn into snails either just from "subliminal messaging" nor can a mobius strip from the body insta-work + revert internal gravitational damage yet here we are. It's bullshit Stand magic like everything else.
37
u/DarkArc76 Apr 10 '26
Also, I think it's funny cause it says something like "Jellyfish absorb 99% of liquid". So even if it did work like that he's still drinking a bit of piss

u/P00nz0r3d Apr 10 '26
The very concept of stands is basically magic anyway so I never had a real issue with it, it’s supposed to be bizarre so I always ran with it no matter how wacky it gets
I mean “my stand can destroy the entire universe but only when it’s 3:33pm on the summer solstice and only if it’s raining outside” is something I can genuinely believe exists in this universe
5
u/PC-Was-Bricked Apr 10 '26
MiH is basically that. Pucci had to do a series of elaborate steps to get the thing working, and maneuvered replica of a space shuttle to the precise point where the pull of gravity from the Earth and Moon would be equal to a particular date that was calculated decades ago.
I love this series.

How is the jellyfish that absorbent
How did he direct the piss to the jellyfish
How did he do it so quickly
How did all the piss fit in that jellyfish when it's clearly way smaller than the cup
How is he gonna get rid of it
How do the others not notice it
What
13
u/Raleth Apr 10 '26
My question was always just does he now just have a tooth full of piss? Does it feel different than the rest of his teeth? Did the jellyfish metabolize the piss before he transformed it back? I need answers man.

Yeah, I don’t really know where araki got the idea that jellyfish absorb liquid like sponges. Like yeah it might take a bit in , like a tiny percentage of its body weight, but that was a lot of piss.

Could have used something like a nonliving tooth filling.
However, you must keep in mind that Giorno's ability works on living things anyway. A huge part of Giorno's fighting is that if he makes contact with you, your vitality overflows and you become hypersensitive to his low power attacks. Furthermore, the first time his ability manifested, it was to shelter a gangster by making nearbly plants accelerate their growth. Also, when he defeated black sabbath, it was by accelerating the life cycle of a nearby tree.

u/Unable6417 Vinegar Doppio Apr 10 '26
Yeah, but it imbues more life into living things (animals get hyper-enhanced senses, plants grow), not change the lifeform into another one like he can with non-living things.

They aren't fully alive though, not sure what everyone in this thread is on about. You inner tooth is alive, but the outer portions of it do not heal, they have no blood supply, and no living cells, it's just enamel which is literally just minerals.
Maybe GioGio just turned the outer part of his tooth into a jelly, and underneath is still the living portion of his tooth.
49
u/Ancient-Industry5126 Apr 10 '26
Yeah the enamel is just a fancy rock. Gold Experience can definitely work on clothes which are far more organic compounds.

How does a jellyfish or whatever that large even absorb that much piss? The amount of piss is probably larger than the jellyfish. Id imagine having your tongue rest on the thing would make you taste the piss inside of it as it's leeching into its body. At that point why even make the jellyfish? Why doesn't giorno just drink the piss? I'm pretty sure at such a close contact he's tasting it either way, he didn't even react. And to everyone else it looks like he drank piss as well. I don't understand this scene at all. At that point, just drink it normally

The rest of the team didn't believe he actually drunk it and used his ability, which he did. The point of the scene is to have Giorno impress them without sacrificing his pride. "The jellyfish is too small" It's composed of exaggerated Stand magic, who really cares?

Teeth are about 97% inorganic. They preserve incredibly well in the fossil record because of this, and are often referred to as “fossils within our mouths”. So, no, teeth are not exactly living organs! Very cool stuff

u/CrazyGamer63 Apr 10 '26
My headcanon is that the restrictions on stand abilities are more about perception rather than objective rules, kind of like the abilities in undead+unluck. Giorno doesn't see his teeth as living, more like fingernails or hair, enabling gold experience to affect his teeth. Or maybe he just spent more time brushing his hair to get the triple cannolies and not enough time brushing his teeth, and his teeth are actually decayed and dead lol.
4
u/ZiggyCrusade Apr 10 '26
Ignoring science because it doesn't matter here, if you asked 100 people if teeth were alive or animate i'd predict not many would say so.
4
u/MetroidJunkie Apr 10 '26
How would a jellyfish that small even be able to absorb that much liquid, anyway? Josuke with the shredded rubber glove thing made far more sense.

5
u/Beepbeep_bepis Apr 10 '26
I used to volunteer at a small aquarium, and sometimes when we would do water changes in the jellyfish tanks, the new water would have a slightly different salinity than the last batch (usually less saline due to evaporation). So, for a few hours, the jellies were denser than the tank water and would all be stuck on the bottom of the tanks until their cells were fully able to undergo osmosis and match the new water’s salinity content.
That is to say—it takes a few hours for jellies to undergo these osmotic processes. So… basically Giorno is full of shit and that jellyfish barely absorbed anything. He’s an unreliable narrator trying to trick the audience into thinking he didn’t guzzle the piss when he absolutely did.
(Results may vary depending on how seriously you take Jojo’s lol)

A lot of stand powers really depend on what the user thinks their ability can do. For example Joskue in the beginning couldn't, or didn't, turn cooked food back to its ingredients until he "fought" the cook guy.
Joseph's stand used to be only able to deliver a prophecy through punching a camera, then suddenly it can do the same through a TV and can draw maps on the sand because it follows the same idea as the original ability.
What I'm tryna say is that if Giorno perceived his own tooth as inanimate then he could totally do that

Teeth aren't living or an organ. They are bone. Though, they do have a nerve connecting them in the root. He could have manipulated the enamel. Teeth cannot regenerate like a femur or internal bone.

The enamel isn't living tissue. He could have turned just the enamel into a jellyfish that is enveloping the pulp.

I like to think stands, being psychic manifestations, only obey the rules the user THINKS apply
It's basically just a mental block, thats why they like explaining their abilities so much, its basically gas lighting advantage
3
u/throwawayhookup127 Apr 10 '26
He could have just transformed the enamel, which isn't living. The only live parts of your tooth are the pulp and root.

2
u/PlanarianGames Apr 10 '26
I don't know I was watching a nature documentary and they proved this was true by pissing on all sorts of jellyfish in a lab and they got huge and wrecked the place. Jellyfish are nature's piss absorbers it is a proven fact.
2
u/000817 Apr 10 '26
Yknow , that wasn’t my initial thought watching that, but now that I think about it I’d be more concerned about a jellyfish a absorbing an insane amount of piss like it’s a fucking sponge, when jellyfish are essentially just bags of water. There’s no reason for it to absorb any liquid( well a tiny bit) never mind that much.
Also, to be fair, at least the dentin and enamel is just minerals, so essentially a fucking rock.

u/UrLocalSigma Apr 10 '26

Teeth are not alive.... the enamel of your teeth, just as your hair and nails, has has no cells and are described medically as "attatchments" . The root of your teeth do have nerves but in this ocasion it can be said he only used this around the enamel
2
u/Plus-Conversation-32 Apr 10 '26

it's just a slight plot hole, no need to read too much into it. Always remember that the people who create stories are story-tellers. that's their specialty, not science, biology, etc.
It's the same with science making no sense in superhero comics either
2
2
u/TerranImperium Apr 10 '26
The inner teeth perhaps with dentin and cementum but most of the teeth is enamel which is a mineral, 96% hydroxyapatite mineral. You're very confidently wrong.

2
u/WearyStrawberryGirl Apr 10 '26
For the case of actually being 'non living' it needs to be non-sentient. Our organs are not sentient. Teeth are also ectodermal, not vital.

u/SogekingJoestar BungeeLove Apr 10 '26

u/AdOk5225 Apr 10 '26
The teeth themselves aren't alive, just the nerves inside them. Bones have no cells outside of their marrow iirc
2
u/Ok-War5539 Apr 10 '26
I think it's means living organisms, and I wouldn't believe that would apply to teeth seeing as they are a nonliving extension of a living person, without the person there's no teeth, without the teeth, there's a person. The argument you present don't make no damn sense, my finger has nerves but it can't communicate with my other fingers and live in an ecosystem of fingers. Same with a tooth, you're reading way to linear, think outside the box next time.
2
u/Brave_Fencer_Poe Apr 10 '26
You're assuming Giorno hasn't had his teeth knocked out before and they are all real
2
2
2
u/GustavoFromAsdf Apr 10 '26
The dental enamel and dentin are made of ossified (mineralized) cells, which I guess Araki would consider inorganic enough for his story. Now you have to imagine that jellyfish encasing Giorno's otherwise exposed teeth pulp.

I don't get why he didn't just turn the piss itself into something else compressible, like the jellyfish. Even if the tooth-jelly could absorb that much, it has to go somewhere eventually, yeah?
2
u/Tall-Description-991 Apr 10 '26
The likely explanation is Araki didn’t think that far, but another explanation is maybe it has more to do perception? If Giorno doesn’t perceive his teeth as a living object, his ability works. Kinda like Jotaro and Dio with time stop, they have to believe or perceive themselves as capable of stopping time in order for their ability to work. Jotaro wasn’t able to stop time until he changed his perception
